Celine at the 66th Grammys, presenting album of the year award

Unfortunately, the snubbing is pretty much consistent with the vanity and narcissism that characterises so many contemporary performers. Especially these who win all sorts of accolades and break records with very little substance to explain their success. We talk about a generation of ''singers'' who do not even sell actual albums anymore but album EQUIVALENT units. Aspects of their success is artificial and deep down they know it. Therefore, when the opportunity presents itself they consciously or subconsciously show their true colours - egocentrism, attention seeking, entitlement and arrogance. Edited by LukeD

“Did you hear my covert narcissism I disguise as altruism, like some kind of congressman?” That’s a (brilliant) line from Anti-Hero on Midnights, and as the New York Times review of that album correctly noted, “Taylor Swift has always been at her best when writing about Taylor Swift.”

Touché! lol_2.gif

Someone posted the video with Trevor’s introduction but I cannot find it. Can someone please help me out?

From some of the people I often turn to for their take on all things Celine:

Brendan Kelly: I'm feeling for my old friend Céline after Le Snub at the Grammy Awards (Montreal Gazette)

Carl Wilson: Taylor Swift Made Grammy History—and One Big Mistake (Slate; this is a general show review rather than "Celine-gate" specifically)

Wilsons article isn't really worth it. He barely mentioned Céline. Bit of a shame.

Wow! That Swift's mistake is all over the internet!!! However, this is so good to see all the love that Celine is receiving right now!! She's still trending on X! Celine deserves all that support so much!!

The Swifties saying Celine had a no-contact clause on her appearance and Taylor was just respecting that. If so, why did she hang around her neck 2 minutes later in the backstage photos?

Nonsense. They do this. I know. I was full force Taylor fan until almost 24 hours ago. The woman forgot her manners. Clearly. There's no excuses.

I loved Taylor… wtf just happened

I’m so mad about it. Probably because I feel so let down by Taylor. I only recall being irked by Celine one time and that’s when she said some stupid political stuff in 2013. I got over it. I’ll get over this.

I’ve spoken to a few Swifties and Gaylors today who are like wtf…why couldn’t she just even at least nod an acknowledgment. Just so basic. Ugh.

I’ve always thought Taylor could be on the autism spectrum. I am and I miss a lot of cues and irk people with my rudeness which I don’t mean. But I’m still annoyed by last night. As anyone who has been blanked by me has the right to be lol

No, it is nothing to do with potentially being autistic. Taylor is the biggest star on the planet currently and she has let her manners slide because it seems all she cares is about her own world

Been saying this for 15 years at least, but the girl is so clearly a narcissist, I don't understand how people can't (couldn't) see it. She definitely didn't mean to ignore Céline (she's too clever for that). But she was too caught up in herself. She isn't empathic enough to sense how important the moment was for Céline as well (or how inappropriate it was to drag Lana on the stage for that matter). Everything about her screams self-absorbed highschooler and it's not a good look.

It's nice to see Céline so universally defended and I know Céline herself will never admit it, but in the moment, she did look hurt. This was also her moment and this wasn't how it was supposed to go.

Im sorry but all the excitement in the world cannot prevent someone from acknowledging the person giving you a trophy! Celine or not, it is total disrespect! The fact that it was Celine made it even more shocking ! Taylor clearly lacks social intelligence! I always found she was fake but to be honest it was just a perception. Now I know I was right...

Celine is still trending at #2 in Canada !

Rolling Stones and Taylor made a huge resurgence of love for Celine. At least, this is something very positive! I love to see that!

They just talked about Celine at the Grammys on the news and they mentioned the Swift incident!

After Celine handed her the award (without any embrace from Taylor) you could see her stand there and mouth the word “congratulations” with no acknowledgment again…. In that moment Celine begins to walk to the side you can see how it hurt her, it was all over her face, and not in a a bitchy diva way, but in a almost heartbroken way. ( not that I think she was heartbroken NOR did Celine lose any sleep over it).

Celine posted on her social media page… including photos with Oprah, Stevie Wonder and Victoria Monet

***No pic with Taylor swift is notable.

I just wish she captioned it and not TC.

I would read too much into it. The pics with TS were professional backstage photos by Kevin Mazur. This I think is just from [shari’s?] phone, based on who they bumped into on the way.

The show aired tonight in Ireland. Watched it and really enjoyed it. Even though I’ve watched it 100 times today I still had goosebumps when Celine walked out. I’m feeling a little sad now. I hate what she’s going through. She doesn’t deserve it.

Also, how would there be such a clause when her participation was kept secret the whole time? lol

Just like when she presented the award to Adele, I don't understand why she has to give a speech and make those long pauses. The starring is the winner, not the presenter.

I'm relieved to see she is not bad, at least judging by appearances. Fans deserve an update from her (a few words or short video from time to time). A documentary is just a way to make money, I would prefer a regular short update rather than seeing her private life.

That backstage photo was just for the press and won't make up for the rudeness towards the presenter to her award.

I can imagine the amount of copium they're going through. This was a moment for Taylor, and she kinda ruined it, made herself look bad, and a lot of the attention is now on the wrong thing.

Speech? She said a couple sentences. That’s what one does when introducing an award at an award show. And she speaks with gravitas like the legend she is.

And I disagree. 30 second IG snippets are not the vehicle for this story. And how she shares her story is up to Céline and Celine only. She doesn’t owe anyone anything. Nobody “deserves” an update on her health. If she choses to share something that private, it’s up to her to decide when and how.

If that is the reason for her wanting it kept a surprise, it doesn't bode well for any type of Vegas commitment. I know people on this forum have strong feelings on the Vegas thing and that some feel it's completely out of the question. I do feel though that when the dust settles on this appearance people here will naturally ask, what's next? I've accepted that it's probably gonna be one off appearances here or there and no more gigs. If she wanted the option of pulling out of the Grammys then she's not about to commit to a 90 min show.

However I'm so excited to see her and she looks stunning! Its so good to know that she's having good days and hopefully is enjoying her life and the downtime.

Yep that is EXACTLY what I was thinking! I am also thinking that if the reason why the Grammy's appearance had to be a surprise was in case if she has an uncontrollable spasm & had to leave, then they would have to get somebody else to sub in, which is why those award shows usually try to have backup plans for instances where a celebrity gets ill during the show, they have another celebrity fill in (just like back in 1997 when our very own CELINE filled in for Barbra Streisand at the Granny's when Barbra was sick & was not able to perform that duet song with Bryan Adams, so Celine ended up singing that song with Bryan, & also her own songs that night!)

Obviously, last night seems similar to the other 2 appearances from last fall - the hockey game & the Katy Perry concert - which happened to be times where Celine was having her GOOD days with her health & deciding to go out in public during the good days... Then most likely after those appearances, she must have had her bad & rough days, as we had stopping seeing her or even seeing posts from her team for the following months, even throughout January up until last week when her team announced the name of her new documentary coming out.

Like you said, this just might be our CURRENT REALITY when it comes to Celine with her health issues due to SPS, whether any of us like it or not. We might hopefully get to see Celine do more one-off appearances like award shows, appearing at other peoples concerts, special events, maybe even appearing in a few talk shows guest spots if she feels up to it at some point,or maybe recording new songs, if she is able to sing. But as far as doing HUGE 2-HOUR CONCERTS like she used to, doing tours, Vegas residencies, etc... those days are pretty much over because of her health. If Celine is worried about doing 5-10 minute appearances on award shows and such because of her health being unpredictable, I would think it would too much of a risk with concerts, tours, & residencies, as in case of a spasm happening or something, it would much more difficult to cancel/back out of compared to small 5-10 min. appearances.

Yes, I do miss her singing & seeing pictures & videos on social media & on YouTube from fans recording her concerts, & even the mini fashion shows of recent years before her illness happened. I miss it all too & of course my heart still hurts at the thought of possibly never getting to see Celine in concert & the YouTube recordings from fans will be closest I will ever get to experience Celine in concert. But we all might have to face this reality. We might have to accept that these brief appearances will be the norm, I just hope Celine's health will allow her to do these appearances for as long as possible, that way even if she can no longer sing, at least she can get outside of her house & enjoy life with her boys, family, & friends because she really deserves to enjoy life & be happy above all.
