anewdayhascome Posted May 5, 2023 at 05:45 PM Posted May 5, 2023 at 05:45 PM “ILL BE” is stuck in my head, I love it!! I was just thinking just hit me how emotional the lyrics are…. It’s almost other worldly… like when someone passes away speaking to their loved ones left behind. It makes it more emotional with Celine’s absence of course. “You are a wildfire, and I wanna be your oxygen”“You are lightning, and I wanna be your thunder”“You are an angel, and I wanna be your messenger” and for the very same reason it makes me so depressed (I love the song musically and vocaly, it's a different feeling): it's as if Celine was talking herself, maybe no passed away as you say but gone from us and taking to us that she will be there but in those other capacities.... to us that we are left behind... I'm reading too much into it but this is how i feel. 2 Quote A New Day... 10th & 11th November 2006 Taking Chances World Tour, Antwerp 13th & 14th May 2008, Kraków 28th June 2008 Celine 25th & 27th & 31st August 2013 20th, 23rd, 24th, 27th & 28th September 2016 Sans attendre Tour, Paris 1st & 5th December 2013 Encore un soir, Paris 24th, 25th, 28th, 29th June & 2nd, 3rd, 6th, 7th, 9th July 2016 Live 2017 Stockholm 17th June 2017 Lille 1st & 2nd July 2017 Paris 8th & 9th July 2017 Berlin 23rd & 24th July 2017 Live 2018 Taipei 11th & 13th July 2018 Manila 19th July 2018 Bangkok 23rd July 2018 BST Hyde Park London 5 July 2019

I feel the same way… but it makes me love it more because I love the emotion behind it and the clear vocals are back, she could sing ABC song with clear vocals and I’m there! 2 Quote

Agreed! It’s fun if she gets a lot of views and streams - but at this point, we just need to enjoy what she gives us. She’s already been at the top of the mountain for many years. 2 Quote

Completely agree- we all want the best for her, for her to be successful, but Celine is still giving us so much, and we need to be mature and accept the wonderful new songs, the movie, all of what’s going on and not stress about the lambs or IMDB or numbers. Enjoy it and live the moment 5 Quote
Chantemoi Posted May 5, 2023 at 07:00 PM Posted May 5, 2023 at 07:00 PM Yeah, she's recognizable. They don't quite get it in my opinion. It's true that these songs so far don't show the same vocal style are previous releases, but in the absence of this diagnosis, nobody would be describing it as anything but a stylistic choice. Her voice still sounds vibrant, flexible, and clear. That critic is using her disease as a crutch to criticize something he doesn't have a fleshed out opinion of. Whenever Celine sings like this, without high notes or acrobatic runs, it's interesting. The focus then is on the quality of her voice, which most critics either don't appreciate or are unqualified to comment on. So they fall back on conceits like "She must be hiding something because of her health issues." She made a stylistic decision to sing in a certain way and regardless of the reasons for that, she can sing in any way or any style and it's still going to be great.Thats the fundamental rule of Celine, I guess. At its simplest and least effected, her voice is sublime, pleasing, and satisfying. She always satisfies the track and does it justice; sometimes it doesn't take much. But really, you can comment on the actual delivery and interpretation. It's intriguing. It's unusual. Her artistry is singing differently every time, and I don't understand what some people don't get it. I find it hard to agree with you in this case. There is no question that over the past few years, Céline‘s voice has changed - and not for the better. In her prime, she was famous for her signature style of sustained notes, crystal-clear resonance, unique melismas/ad libs, and her ability to come transition from a roaring crescendo to a gentle-but-intense whisper. From these 2 new tracks, only the whisper survives, and she relies a lot on her head voice. Both sound “thin” compared to the full depth of her prime. Part of this is natural - she is aging. But the journalist was simply posing a rhetorical question (their honest reaction) whether the absence of her signature style is because of her actual ability (due to age or health condition) or if she’s trying to blend in with other pop singers. My personal opinion is that ability is the main reason. 2 Quote

We don’t need it to be #1 but we should care a bit, it’s more incentive for SONY to release new music… especially from the vault if Celine no longer records. The better it does, the higher chance we gets unreleased songs like PMLALS ( yes I said it, if you want PMLALS start streaming people) Quote

I think caring so much that it gets in the way / puts a damper on new material is where it gets problematic. I’m always rooting for Celine to have big success… even after all these years. 1 Quote

Not trying to be edgy...just singing good songs I know it doesn’t matter but that’s what leads me to believe that either these songs were NOT courage leftovers or at minimum they didn’t make the cut for courage album for that reason, because they don’t sound to me like they would’ve fit on that album. Her clearer vocals are back… if that’s the case this should DEFINITELY be the route they take on the next album….. please Celine get better there so still more slaying to be done! Quote

Such a shame that era could’ve went very different… covid and her illness came and just stopped everything in its tracks. We would’ve had a finished world tour, a movie release with promotion, a new Vegas show and who knows what else. So sad. 2 Quote
mirage Posted May 5, 2023 at 09:19 PM Posted May 5, 2023 at 09:19 PM They were trying so hard the last albums that most of the times it just didn't work. Peppercorn1991 Posted May 5, 2023 at 09:30 PM Posted May 5, 2023 at 09:30 PM I feel the same. She has wasted the past few years trying to be someone else, when all we wanted was her. Listened to courage tonight and whilst I do like it, these new songs remind me why I love her so much. Kev x 1 Quote

It was her first album completely without Rene. Her first English album in 6 years. And her first album after her Vegas residency ended. They wouldn’t put out an album of “leftovers” with all of that in mind. Celine was very proud of this record. She would only want to release the material she thought was best suited. And I think they hit the mark. It was a very cohesive album in both theme and sound. 8 Quote https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PL54qnRGM2gMatthew Charles - "Fix You" - Live at The Stonewall InnStonewall Sensation - Season 15Originally written and performed by Coldplay

If Celine was really proud of that album one would think she’d sing a few more songs from that album on tour they named after the album. She’s just programmed to say she’s proud of every album! I’m sure she was/ is but probably not more proud than any other album. 1 Quote
