"I Am: Celine Dion" documentary - Official Topic

It really does feel like a shift is happening when it comes to Celine. It finally feels like more bookish, NPR-listening people are respecting Celine. And it’s thanks to the documentary and Irene Taylor — and Celine’s bravery in boldly putting her story out there and reclaiming her narrative.

Geez just watching again and right after the episode and her therapist explains it was because of her singing, her very first response is “So we’ll come back tomorrow.” I missed it the first time but God her immediate instinctive response is Alright work even harder, go through the pain yet again, throw herself at the wall till it breaks. Ugh. Her will is indomitable. Edited by lyn

It's out.

Q&A after "I AM: Céline Dion" | Director Irene Taylor & PAM CUT Director Amy Dotson

I appreciate how present Irene is in all of the promo she did for the documentary. She gives such thoughtful answers and has given us a ton more insight. It’s lovely how it all worked out so beautifully — with Irene taking on the project before knowing Celine was sick and then ultimately being the perfect person to take this on considering her past projects. And it’s nice that they both own the same piano.

I thought it was her 2017 tour outfit but this one looks slighty different.

Love this one though, and the earrings and hair!

That is the 2017 tour outfit. Her hair is just lightly clipped up so that they could zip it up. They must have nixed the earrings for the stage. They were a bit much for the outfit, IMO.

Agreed. Very happy for her, making all these new connections and getting her profile raised by so much. Much deserved and may that mean great projects for her in the future.

My knowledge has always been that she wears an 8.5 (39 EU). I don’t remember where exactly that comes from but I think Annie told us at one point and also Céline herself probably said it a couple times.

Randomly watching the A New Day The Secrets BTS rn, with franco dragone, talking about her missing shoes the first night… she asks “Anybody wear a size 38 in the audience”

Meant to reply to this when it was originally posted but keep being signed out constantly so forgot until now.

Anyway, bearing in mind I’ve still only watched the doc through once, my initial thought on this was that she said something to the effect of you’re telling me doing what I love is going to prompt an attack like this and “we’re gonna come there tomorrow” and the same thing could happen again. I honestly took it as “I need to go back there tomorrow” i.e. for day 2 of the session which made me think the final scenes were edited to suggest the episode happened after recording session day 1 but was edited in a way to suggest it was after day 2, which is fair in the context of finding a way to end the doc but tbh I feel that if this is how it really happened, it says just as much about her character that she went back there on day 2, and repeated the process until she nailed it so this would have been just as effective an ending. In saying this though, Irene has been adamant that this episode happened after day 2 of a long slog and eventual successful song recording and she does keep repeating about how authenticity was so important to her so not sure in all honesty she would have edited this to flip events as it’s obviously one of the most authentic scenes in the film.

Just my two cents worth and probably totally wrong but it’s just how it came across to me on first watch.

It may because most films are not shot chronologically and a lot of shots are being shortened just like her crisis scene. It was almost an hour of pain but on docu they shortened it. And some shots are deleted.

So, people should know by now that what they see in movies/docu are not shot chronologically also there’s a lot happened before the crisis scene that has been cut. That’s the power of editing. Looking like it happened that fast. Because some were curious like why the location of the scene changed, etc.

Weirdly though, this new social post isn't showing up on her main IG page except for the prime video profiles. I guess that just means whoever is in charge of her socials hasn't approved the tag to show up on her grid/reels?

A French journalist was just asked by a Quebec journalist on TV if Celine would sing. He said that's the big question that everyone is asking. Apparently there are signs in the city anouncing Celine...

Highly doubtful. Probably referring to Entrevue magazine covers and the like, as seen in Devin’s post yesterday -

Just got back from Paris. This cover was everywhere, on bus shelters etc. I don’t think it is happening. Going to be a lot of disappointed people.

Sigh watching this again because for me it’s not even been a week since my first watch… and to now see the glitz and glamour and anticipation in Paris, it’s like flipping a switch right back to her hey day and it becomes easy to forget the entire other narrative we just learned. I know she’s better now but the extremes of this disease are wild… I can only imagine The Olympic Games… if anything will trigger her, it’s this. I just hope she’s taking all the care behind the scenes. I l trust she’s now smart, not brave…

"Dion's catalog streams are up +33% worldwide," Amazon MGM Studios tells us.

"This film was born out of extraordinary trust," Taylor said in a statement provided exclusively to Deadline. "Celine let me in at a time when most would push away. The world's response is a testament to authenticity and non-fiction storytelling, and Amazon's deep commitment to make Celine's voice heard once again."

Amazing, and what beautiful validation for Celine that it really mattered for her, for others, to be this vulnerable.

It's quite a feat that for the first time in my Celine fandom all my friends knew about a Celine project without me forcing it down their throats telling them, and watched it before even I did.

Now hope they made a deal with Amazon for some from the vault releases!
