Macaronie Posted October 15, 2024 at 06:00 AM Posted October 15, 2024 at 06:00 AM Interesting. Why Amazon would still spend money on promotion now ? Maybe because they knew about the release of the Hymne à l’Amour and wanted to leverage of the publicity ?it's an ad for prime (like a "don't miss out" kinda campaign) 1 Quote

scielle Posted October 25, 2024 at 05:30 PM Posted October 25, 2024 at 05:30 PM Thank you! I’ve stopped checking regularly for anything new from Irene so it’s nice to see she’s still doing promo for this (as part of an award season push, I’m sure). Always so good to hear her talk about it. 1 Quote

I know we knew it but can't imagine how hard it had to be watching Rene dying and dealing with this unknow disease at the same time. Just makes me want to see all things that did not make the film that was filmed. 1 Quote 'I am, in life and death, the woman of only one man.' Celine Dion My Story, My Dream

Not sure we will ever know the progression and when the symptoms got worse. scielle Posted October 27, 2024 at 04:59 AM Posted October 27, 2024 at 04:59 AM I hope we get an updated autobiography one day which answers at least some of these questions. So much has happened in the last decade. 6 Quote

It seems like the docu was suopposed to be released then and she would hit the stage, but somehow it all got postponed for 3 more years, I really wonder why? Quote

I would think she'd start having these episodes when they canceled the residency in fall 2021 - that explains why they cancel all the way through February (right?) and not postpone etc. I remember we were all wondering back then why they not delayed but straight away canceled. I think she’s been having full-on episodes for probably the past ten years. Remember that story of how she had a major episode before a show in Vegas and when she regained awareness of what was going on, they had canceled the show and everyone had gone home? Also the one about René witnessing a crisis? She just didn’t take the time to really work on this issue and instead powered through without the appropriate treatment. Quote The best is yet to come...

ryba Posted October 29, 2024 at 06:29 PM Posted October 29, 2024 at 06:29 PM (edited) I don’t know if I want Irene again for another documentary. She kept everything so very short. We only get very short bits and pieces of everything, e.g. the warehouse, I would really like to see what career pieces she stores there, what CDs of her own etc. It was displayed for not even a second in the film. Such a shame. We don’t really get to see her house, because there is a blurry effect on everything. I don’t like that. Yes, I appreciate that we got a docu, because it was high time, but I’m not happy with the end product. We got more insight in the Oprah 2003 docu. Celine elaborated on Maria Callas and it was all cut out. There was no sequence. Everything was all over the place. We don’t even know when the crisis episode took place. Obviously they were bowling, but none of that shows. It looks like she was leaving the recording session. That’s not authentic at all. Edited October 29, 2024 at 06:35 PM by ryba 2 Quote

The bowling lanes are in the same building. The documentary wasn’t to focus on her career highlights. It was made to highlight what she was going through and how she was coping with the loss of her voice as she knew it. There are plenty of career retrospectives to watch. 4 Quote https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PL54qnRGM2gMatthew Charles - "Fix You" - Live at The Stonewall InnStonewall Sensation - Season 15Originally written and performed by Coldplay

Except it doesn’t do that, not well at least. Like many have said, the timeline is all over the place - which is not helpful. Also, we see very little of her actual combat with the disease notwithstanding the crisis scene. They should’ve given us more of her training with her therapist, visiting her doctor, working on her voice, all very clearly structured from a chronological standpoint. I feel like the documentary ended up being some sort of hybrid between a career retrospective and trying to showcase Céline’s current (not so current) normal, and failing at both - although ironically it probably works better as a career retrospective. It seems they tried to be weirdly poetic about it when really they should’ve given us a plain storyline. 2 Quote The best is yet to come...
