no they just showed that part... I believe that one was a more serious situation, that even needed 911... and for that reason they stopped filming...

Yeah it's weird, it's never addressed besides that first episode

 

And I think that crisis happened after the one shown at the end because Irene was referring to the last scene as the first time seeing Celine in a crisis

Yeah kind of confused on that one too. I think it was after filming done, you can tell it was recorded on a cell phone so was not Irene who captured it. Also Irene said they only had it happen one time during all their filming.

 

But do we think the one year ago is in reference to a year before that crisis or a year before she announces having SPS?

 

Right before the one year ago message they are playing media reaction to her announcement. But then see her being interviewed by kids then having a treatment and telling us she just found out has SPS. Which we know is Aug 2022. So I feel the one year ago is in reference to the crisis placing it in Aug 2023.

With the widespread critical and commercial success, I don't think it's a leap at this point to suggest that this film will be part of the conversation come award season.

It must be so validating for Celine to risk putting it all out there like this, and have the response be so overwhelmingly positive.

There is no mention of the commercial success of the documentary. Also, in the introductory overview it mentions 'favourable reviews' - it should say 'rave' instead.

My take is the "one year ago" title card is in reference to the IG announcement and media reaction to it. And I expect she had physical therapist long before the actual diagnosis.

In that first episode, where 911 is called, Terrill says "she's had this issue before" but it sounds like at the time he/ they didn't quite know why yet.

It's funny, I had a feeling since a long time ago that Maria Callas would in some way be brought up during the documentary. In my head, during her hiatus Celine was trapped in a bunker listening to famous arias by the great opera singers. Turns out that was true!

 

The parallels between her and Callas are so numerous, and we know how much Celine was dying to play her in a movie for years. Turns out, the topic of Maria Callas was a huge pillar in the film even more than I was expecting -- with Maria's version of Habanera opening the film and Celine's version closing, Celine listening to her, Celine having a necklace that she owned, etc.

 

And opening with Callas version of Habanera was just so iconic!

It's fascinating to me that the sincerity and earnestness that got her dismissed in the past, is what's earning her rave reviews now.

Culturally, the landscape has changed so much since the '90s/'00s. I really think if she made a film like this back then, it wouldn't have been nearly as well received (see the backlash she got for sharing the details of her IVF journey at the time, with people saying it's TMI). But our expectations of public figures are so different now, as are attitudes about mental, not just physical health, and "talking it out". What's considered brave now would probably have been considered performative and attention-seeking back then.

Celine hasn't changed one bit. The cultural milieu around her has.

And it's pretty cool to witness the shift in public perception around her - which started some time back, but is now in full swing. I'm genuinely excited about what's to come.

Irene said that she almost didnt want to do it at first place. Firstly they wanted her to do a documentary about her career. But after the sickness she found it more interested cause she had a theme to focus and create the movie.

So i dont think they will do something more. Maybe just an extended version for the DVD release.

 

Will there be a DVD release? I’ve Ben trying to find that out and people so far are saying that prime videos aren’t usually released on DVD. I really hope that this will be. Is there any way to find out for sure? I was thinking of contacting Amazon myself but I doubt that the customer service reps would know that info

In many ways, Celine has always been ahead of the curve - it’s why she continues to be a cultural icon, aside from being a legit megastar legend icon in the music business.

 

The reception to this documentary has been even greater than I ever hoped it would be; the support is so plain to see, people rooting for her. The bravery to put something like this out there is incredible. I didn’t think I could love Celine more than I do. I was wrong.

Yup. And I'm genuinely excited to see what she does next. It'll look different and obviously at a reduced velocity than what's she's done in the past, but she's resetting the stage, taking control of the narrative, and laying groundwork for her next chapter. And it's one that promises to be very interesting, and I think with this doc, she has certainly won herself new fans, so maybe those for whom her music didn't resonate in the past, will now be more inclined to give her the time of day.

That is where I am so confused on the timeline. If one year before the announcement that is Dec 2021 and did not think Irene was filming yet with her. Also the beginning of the film after the kids do the interview it goes right into her saying she just found out had SPS and that was Aug 2022. Why it gets so confusing.

I love that she loves the song at the end, Who I Am, and she is clearly passionate about it but it also irritates, frustrates, puzzles me, makes me mad, makes me sad that she knows we know about PMLALS (or whatever the true title is) and does not show the same passion for her own repertoire.

Does anyone know the "perfume" or body spray Celine used before the John Farnham taping? Just curious

 

It looks like a Louis Vuitton perfume. It has white cylinder cardboard holder those come in to protect it. I work at LV so I’m familiar with the packaging. Also I saw Guerlain bottles on her table with the square caps but I’m not sure if she was spraying that.

First Celine interviews in years, public appearances, a #1 documentary all around the world, rave reviews from critics, outpouring of love from the public, all-time streaming peaks. One thing is for sure - we ALL deserved this positive experience after years of silence and uncertainty. And I firmly believe July will be just as good.
