scielle Posted June 27, 2024 at 02:52 AM Posted June 27, 2024 at 02:52 AM (edited) So is there actually a lot of buzz around this doc among the general public or does it just seem like it because we here are in a Celine echo chamber and have been so starved for news for years? I randomly heard it mentioned in conversation at work today, which surprised me. Clearly, it's topping Amazon streaming charts so people worldwide are watching, but is it at "watercooler talk" level? I'm sure there's some morbid curiosity around it so it's not just fans. I find the uniformly positive critical response to this so fascinating. Culture, and our expectations of public figures, have changed so much since the days of Celine's commercial peak. If she had done a project like this then, she would have been eviscerated. I mean, she was, when she talked so openly about her IVF. So many said "TMI, I don't need to know this"; she was derided for over-sharing and branded an attention seeker and drama queen. And now, we expect openness and authenticity. We expect people to "talk about their feelings", have a therapist, take care of their mental not just physical health, etc. It's such a different zeitgeist. What's considered brave now would probably have been mocked as performative back then. Most of all, I love seeing how Celine is taking control of the narrative with this doc. She's setting the stage for her next act, on her terms, and seeing such positive response must be so heartening for her. I think for so long she really did believe we were all there for the shiny apples, the big notes. But reality for many of us I think was always very different. I would absolutely not mind a different repertoire, a different approach; I'd welcome it. I've always been there for the small, quiet songs anyway, not the big bombastic ones. And on a side note, it seems Amazon has fixed the credits? Yesterday they cut off as soon as Celine started singing Carmen, and today they run all the way through? (And no, I didn't change any settings.) Edited June 27, 2024 at 02:52 AM by scielle 2 Quote
scielle Posted June 27, 2024 at 02:54 AM Posted June 27, 2024 at 02:54 AM Am I the only one who bristles whenever Maria Callas's name (and, now, necklace) comes up? TommKat22 Posted June 27, 2024 at 04:45 AM Posted June 27, 2024 at 04:45 AM I know iTunes isn’t what it used to be, but due to the impact of the doc, Celine currently has 3 albums in the top 200 of US iTunes. One of which is Falling Into You, which I can’t remember ever seeing in the top 200 on US iTunes! 2 Quote Tommy
TommKat22 Posted June 27, 2024 at 04:51 AM Posted June 27, 2024 at 04:51 AM Even The French Album is charting in the Pop Albums section. Exciting to see so much of her music littered throughout the iTunes charts. Albums and songs I never saw appear before on there! 3 Quote Tommy

Gicedi Posted June 27, 2024 at 05:35 AM Posted June 27, 2024 at 05:35 AM (edited) It was a time that Celine didnt walk well, so maybe thats why they used that space for recordings. More accessible and wide open. In my opinion this should be the proper soundtrack of the movie Songs used in the film in chronolgical order "L'amour est un oiseau rebelle" by Maria Callas "River Deep, Mountain High" "A New Day Has Come" "The Power of Love" "My Heart Will Go On" "Chattanooga Choo Choo" "Le ballet" "Hush, Little Baby" / "Chandelier" "Treat Her Like a Lady" "Tellement j'ai d'amour pour toi" "Visa pour les beaux jours" "If That's What It Takes" "Ashes" "That's the Way It Is" "All by Myself" "Ebben? stevo Posted June 27, 2024 at 07:34 AM Posted June 27, 2024 at 07:34 AM I watched it for the second time last night - I was definitely less anxious than I was watching it in the cinema, and I enjoyed it more as a movie because I knew what was round the corner. She is incredible. It’s insane to think when Love Again was coming out we were up in arms that she was nowhere to be seen etc. Madness to think she was sat at home in tears in the grip of all this. Also, I want her Dolce & Gabbana pyjamas. 1 Quote

marc-02 Posted June 27, 2024 at 08:07 AM Posted June 27, 2024 at 08:07 AM (edited) For some reason, the Who I Am song kinda reminds me of this song from the winner of The Voice Australia last year. She's a big Celine fan, sang her song during the competition and even has a tone and vocal stuling quite similar to Celine's. https:// youtu.be/NEy60etdXIQ?si=edGg1bIRGSFNLil4 Edited June 27, 2024 at 08:09 AM by marc-02 Quote

PuraVida Posted June 27, 2024 at 10:21 AM Posted June 27, 2024 at 10:21 AM It finally occured to me that the title of the documentary might have been a reference to the song "Who I Am" that she sings in the film. Ofc it fits so well with the themes of exploring her identity 1 Quote
