Should that matter? Yes and no... if you like the album, you like the album; but fans have every right to be outraged about this.

 

To downplay this, like deleting those views means nothing, is like saying to your coworker “oh, it’s fine you carelessly burned that important presentation we all spent years working on. At least one got injured.”

 

Before you have the chance to say “well fans didn’t make the video themselves” or “it’s not your career, it’s hers”, in case you haven’t noticed, many fans feel that when they support Céline’s music, that they are supporting its success. Rational or not, it is what they think. Even if you yourself don’t share that mindset, it does no good to belittle their opinions about whether or not it’s a big deal to them.

That is just an excuse to do a bad job, really. Imagine every working person using that lame excuse for doing a lazy half *ss job... "Well, at least nobody die".

 

It's not "just a video". It's not "just streams". It’s the damn job! Streaming is what moves the whole industry today. It impacts on budgets to do more music, new contracts, publicity, public interest, everything... Just like radio did back then!

I will never EVER understand this. It is a video. It had so many views. Now it doesn't. It means nothing. Absolutely nothing. You, or other fans, making up that it means something doesn't make it mean something. The video isn't destroyed. In fact, they made it better - they uploaded it in better quality. Watch that one 100 times a day if it upsets you so much.

But artists and companies barely make any money from streaming. I can see what Celine and her team don't care about it. $1,400 a ticket and selling out her concerts are what make the money. Streaming doesn't do a damn thing. She's a legacy artist. Whether or not she has streaming numbers, she will be able to sell out tours and Vegas shows.

I am sorry, but I disagree. It's about promotion and caring for your image, music and especially the fans! I was a teen in the 90s, so I grew up with MTV, VH1 etc. In the 80s and 90s you had to be on a video channel to sell and promote your music. Her having all those views is 1) an accomplishment, and why should accomplishments be diminished? 2) it drives internet traffic to Celine content of all sorts. It's the 100M videos that pop up first and then they link to other videos and so on from there. there is business element to this 3) it is also about cache and reputation. Celine should be seen as one of the biggest artists, and erasing evidence of that is not good.

 

 

Also, given the pay rates that Youtube creators get, Celine has probably made millions off of Youtube alone. And she has made millions off of streaming as well. It has been calculated on the streaming thread.

It's not important when it comes to selling concert tickets. That's my point. That's Celine's focus and, apparently, her team's. I can understand being upset that Sony isn't really doing anything for Celine but what is Celine doing for Sony these days? She's more about concerts than albums. Why should Sony try to promote her music?

 

MHWGO is another video with clips from a movie. I highly doubt Team Celine has the rights to use it - and why should they have to pay for it when they have 1,378,699,482,210,000 videos from her tours that they can use instead?

the possibly official tour video that’s available around youtube are Montreal au rythmes des ameriques (where she performed lcmm, batb, nbbmh and lbdb), LCMM live in Quebec, Nov 1992, Plus haut que moi in montreal 1993 and WDMHBN live in halifax 1993 (those mentioned videos are professionally filmed), I’m 99% sure TC has the full concert but it’s locked in their vault of oldies

 

there are only two bootlegs available on youtube (DYGEL and NBBMH live in Gatineau, Sept 1992)

By that logic you could also argue that she released so many great albums, won so many awards and performed thousands of amazing shows around the world for several decades, so she could retire now and never sing again. Would you be okay with that? I wouldn’t.

 

You can’t possibly deny the fact that she’s not doing the things that you would except an artist, especially one of her caliber, to do. Look at all these other superstar singers, many of whom have also released 20 songs sometime in the past two years yet still continue to be very active and do stuff for their fans because that’s what huge artists are expected and supposed to do. It’s their job after all. That’s also what Céline would have been doing had she still been under the management of Aldo or, even better, René. As long as she’s still considered an “active” artist and not a retired one, complaints are totally justified.
