"Superwoman" (w/ Diane Warren) - Official Topic

I bet you all come to like this song in a few days ;)

I already like it more now than 2 hours ago… I really must say I never hated the song just the approach… I don’t love the vocals or the production. I hate the way she breaks on the word “mountains”. Certain things that irritate me, it’s like they rushed and recorded it all in one take because they were to cheap to buy more studio session time.

I first have to say that everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I sometimes think that I am the only one listening to what Celine has to say. For the longest time she has been saying that she doesn't have to prove anything anymore. She now does what gives her pleasure. She sings what she wants and the way she wants. She is not after a hit, an award, fame or stardom. Why? First because she has had all of that and second because she now has other priorities.I believe that we should consider that this is woman in her fifties, a woman that has been disciplined ( no talking, no eating dairy, no coffee) She has given her entire life to her profession and to get where she is.( I mean who stops their honeymoon to go do promo? ) Last year I read peolple saying 'oh she should have done this or that', well she did , she enjoyed her family , relaxed , and hugged trees. Why? because that is where she is at right now.

People are talking about this new song. 'Oh there are better songs on Diane's album, the way she sings is not that good , she mispronounces the words.'.. as Celine 'says all in the above'. It's clear that she liked the song.Liked the lyrics ( It's so her) and decided to play with it.

Celine is now an icon enjoying the results of her hard work. I see her doing fashion, dance, and acting. Three things that she really enjoys at the moment. Now, if that's good or bad, it doesn't matter. Quoting a Celine song 'that's just the way it is'.

She is about to take on Vegas with a third residency , so instead of considering the ideal set list consider this she will once again make history.!

I agree that saying Celine being nasal is like saying water is wet, she's always been a combination of throaty and nasal (with many exceptions of course). I think when her voice was higher in the earlier years it wasn't so bad, but her voice has gotten deeper over the years and it's very unpleasant at times. She has a similar sound on Courage, absolutely, but it's not as bad as on this song (IMO). If she sounded like that on every song I'd be more understanding, but she has songs where she sings clear and lovely (The Chase is one example as well as many on Encore un Soir). We know she has the capability to open her nose and sing more clearly, she just excuses her unpolished type singing as "soulful." even Diane said it. She's older and singing isn't as easy as it was so she needs to work extra to make sure she sounds clear and beautiful otherwise what we get is Courage and Superwoman. She needs the vocal exercises and rest way more than she did in the 90's.

I'll be intrigued to hear her singing voice again now that she's had so much time to rest.

Her voice was in amazing shape when she returned in 2011 after some time off -- she had her 1990s tone again!

I know she won't have that kind of fluidity anymore now that she's a bit older, but she's still very capable of delivering gorgeous vocals... even on the Courage tour there were some really lovely moments.

And her mature voice brings some great new elements... as demonstrated so beautifully on Wicked Game.

Superwoman is growing on me. I can actually envision Celine doing a really great live performance of the song.

But like many of us here, I'm hoping that Celine will bring stronger, prettier vocal deliveries to the studio in the future where she sounds more like her classic self. Like she did on Ashes.

The irony is that the song has a complete opposite message to those wondering about her vocal delivery lol.

We are expecting Celine to be a vocal superwoman and why can we accept anything less than "perfect"?

I reeeeeally think this song will be better live, if she does it. Which I hope she does!! She could play with the melody and make it a little different. On the track it’s just kinda the same from chorus to chorus but live she would add those riffs and melismas she so beautifully does!!!

I didn't know love until they loved me back to life because somebody loves somebody!

Le temps qui compte pour Celine est maintenant! post-26465-0-84517800-1427302581_thumb.gif

Well, after 5, 6, 14 times to listen it's not bad. Not one that I would go out of my way to listen too but I probably wouldn't skip it. :)

I like the line, don't put me on a pedestal. I can't speak for everyone but I have placed her there from time to time.

Damn, compare Superwoman with these songs from the same album! These songs are worlds apart. Even the production is on a totally different level! Celine received an embarassing leftover. Why is Celine accepting ridiculous leftovers and settles for minimal production, instead of aiming for hit metrial and shooting some awesome music videos? Wake up, Celine...

I think the first line of Superwoman is for the fans lol

“Are you expecting some kind of perfect, perfection? Can’t you accept anything less?”

What I wish the most is to have a deep connection with a new song by her, it doesn't have to be a ballad

I wonder when that will happen again.

Though, if they will make a video for this one it can be pretty nice.

Yep. I'll never forget that the writer of Somebody Loves Somebody came to see her in Vegas and she didn't even perform the song.

Same goes with The Chase.

Same. But as people are saying that Diane didn't gave a good song. She gave a good song, bit Celine didn't tried singing. it was like okay I'm tired let's get this finished kind of recording.

If only some producer dared to question her pronounciation! It is so bad. You cannot hear the words she sings. I am not impressed by this song at all. Just heard a snippet on youtube and will do another Spotify listen to see if it is better. But the song already has this melody that seems to be popular but I think it does not suit her style.

Remember when René wouldn’t let her record “That’s Just The Woman In Me” for over 15 years because he KNEW that’s not what people wanted to hear from her? He knew people wanted to hear “proper” Celine, not the weird way she sounded on that song.

Of course he finally relented and let her include it on “Taking Chances” but the reality is I don’t think she has anyone alongside her now to say “don’t record that song” or “you need to try harder” or “try that again” etc. It’s obvious.

Or when the writers of “The Chase” came to see her in Toronto and posed with her backstage. She even posted the photo and commented, mentioning “The Chase” but didn’t perform it :pinch:

Yes and that approach make her studiorecordings forgettable. don’t care if she is gonna set the record for being in Vegas with her predictable setlists. I am interested in her new material but I wished she actually cared for that. Btw if you are a producer you should be in charge. I would not care and just tell her to sing the lines over and over until she sings better with clear pronounciation, leaves the Adele frog sound in the pond where it belongs and stops imitating Sia.

For this song I ‘d say it is okay. Not special and the arrangement of the song is a bit bland. The song could be a fillertrack on the Courage album. No Ashes level unfortunately.

i don't mind her vocals in this song, also this song probably recorded in 2016 / 2017 and her voice wasn't in that good place then so yeah....

and for the producer and engineers i don't recognise any of them .... and maybe that's what the producer wants the song to be like so yeah we don't know the details...

I didn't know about that. Did he say that in an interview or did Celine say that?

I think That's Just The Women In Me is a an example of Celine getting it right, and applying a certain style that a song calls for. But there's also a difference between vocal effects, tone, and pronunciation. You can still achieve great vocal styles without odd pronunciation.

I think Humberto Gatica will tell her what's up, and I have seen other producers do it. Celine seems very collaborative in studio, so I think it really depends who she's working with to tell her stuff.
