After hearing the full song, my opinion stands. I will say, had she focused more on her vocal delivery, the song could have been better. You can take song like Rain, Tax, Why oh Why, that are generally awful songs, but her vocals are so good and clear it makes them listenable. Superwoman is a very mediocre song, but with amazing vocals she could have lifted it up. No idea why people aren't telling her about this awful nasal style she's doing. I'm sure nobody wants to criticize Celine's singing. Maybe Rene was the only one brave enough to do so?

Idk why people think WOW is so terrible? I think she delivers wonderfully on it, and I love the context of the lyric itself.

Edit: I wonder if Diane would get some heat for having some of the same lyrics "I'm not a superwoman" versus "your" and the same "Can't be your superwoman" and "I'm only human"

Was humming the song all day after listening to it twice this morning (the 'I'm only human' part is really catchy).

 

It's not amazing, but marginally better than what I was expecting.

I dislike the weird effects they're using on her voice especially in the beginning, but otherwise her performance is fine.

What is the consensus? Do people think the song would be better with better vocal delivery? Or is the song itself just lacking? Or neither?

 

It's both. I don't have any serious issue with her delivery but it could have been better. And the song itself is just pretty meh.

 

A different delivery and a different production of the song could have made it better.

She didn't chose this song, it was offered to her for this album. And ofc Diane will give the songs with more hit potential to artists that are more popular and on the rise. No surprise. We can't know for sure but I can see Celine taking the song just because it's coming from Diane and they have a strong history.

What's a shame is that it's clear Diane can offer better but chose one of the weaker songs for Celine :/ but then I highly doubt she considers it that weak, she loves all her songs.

Unfortunately Celine doesn’t write her songs and gets what they give her. And I don’t blame the songwriters for giving her the bottom of the barrel of the songs because we’ve all seen what she does with the songs she’s offered. She records them, then they die. No music videos, songs random covers instead of the songs…. Again it’s Celine’s fault, maybe if she treated the songs as “gifts” as she says they would give her more quality stuff.

 

However in this instance, I have disagree the song isn’t bad and isn’t the problem it’s the weak production and vocals. If Ariana Grande would have sung this song it would’ve been on radio today.

In general I find that most pop music these days sucks, and that good songs are very hard to find. So with any song Celine gets nowadays, I think vocal delivery is key because the song will most likely not be amazing.

 

Courage was an exception, as I think the album had some great writing, but fans were split on her delivery there as well.

And although I understand the critic from the fans here I am so glad to hear à nice new song which I find catchy.

 

Since I accepted that old Celine with her soaring power ballads is gone as are the 90s and her youth and her cristal clear and powerful voice I am totally fine with the new material and I approach it without any expectations nowadays….just give us PMLALS next

I remember when Celine used to be on albums with various artists, she would easily be the standout and most beautiful voice. Remember Divas Live? Celine stepped out and showed the whole world that she had one of the greatest voices on the planet.

 

Now, on this album largely made up of artists I've never heard of, and Celine's voice is not a standout. Leona Lewis sounds better than she does. It's like Celine forgot how to sing. What is she doing? The way she is singing is a choice. Why is she choosing to sing like that?

 

And the song itself? I can't believe this is by the same woman who wrote so many epic songs. It's not horrible. I just expected more from both Diane and Celine.

Ok so I’ve listened to it a few times and I kinda like it. It would fit in the middle of the courage album. Not magnificent, but not awful.

 

Her pronunciation is not great but I kinda like the production. I’ve added it to my recent Celine playlist and I’m sure it will grow.

 

I hated the courage album at first. In fact I cried as I really hated it. But it’s now one of my favourite albums by her. It takes time.

 

However, please Celine remember where you came from and don’t put this kind of singing out too much.

Some of you are just being dramatic about the song. I'm not gonna call names, but you guys complaining about how she sounds here are the same people who I see will praise certain songs on Courage and LMBTL in which she sounds identical. If you're going to critique a song for the vocals, do so fairly. Don't just pick and choose which songs you like and dislike to complain about her voice.

 

In my opinion, I see nothing wrong with her vocals aside from the pronunciation. She sounded nearly identical in the PMLALS recording that we heard, as far as her tone and placement goes, yet no one's complaining about her vocals there. This closed nasal sound is nothing new, she's sounded like this since 2013, even more so in 2017. She sounds the same in many songs on Courage, and it's even more prevalent when she sings live.

 

My opinion of the song is that it is mediocre, bland, and doesn't highlight her voice. I think it's not suited for Celine, however I'm not going to sit here and rip it apart because of her voice, because if I did that then I would have to do the same with every song of hers since 2013.

I've been trying to force myself to like Courage ever since it came out. I try mixing the songs from that album in with the songs in Celine past that I love so much. I just think the album is full of bland songs and Celine's singing is the worst she has ever done. I can barely understand her even after I look up the lyrics. I was hoping Diane would have said to her "Celine...what are you doing? This is my album you're singing on. Please use your beautiful voice and not this strange thing you're doing." But no. She sounds just as bad on "Superwoman" as she did on the Courage album.

I disagree...Diane Warren's songs haven't really charted since the 90s and early 2000s. The peak of her success coincides with Celine's, so we can't really blame Celine either.

 

So if none of Diane's songs are going to chart, as has been the case basically for the past 2 decades, she could have let Celine have first pick on the songs.
