They are classifying this as a romantic "drama" not a rom-com. Interesting. The thing that has me puzzled is one of the descriptions says they find love with the help of Celine Dion. To me that means more then 2 lines.

Clearly the story will be about 2 fans that met on a Céline forum, the drama that happen. Then they met due to their love for Céline and fell in love. The end. Haha

I feel like, worst case scenario, Celine/her music will be a presence in the movie without us seeing her. It'll slowly build up to her introduction scene and from that moment she might have a couple scenes with one or both of the main characters. So in that way, even if she isn't in the movie a lot her role is still important, and it's much more than a cameo (which is a very minor role that has zero baring on the plot).

 

I'm excited but the fact TC hasn't made a post about this makes me think her contract/negotiations haven't been finalized.

This is wonderful news! I just hate that the media is using the worst pictures they can find of Celine to promote her being in this movie. There are soooooo many great pictures out there to choose from, yet they always manage to pic the absolute worst ones possible. I like the one they used on Instagram to promote it from the Encore Un Soir album, but that's about it. Come on media. Choose better pictures please. Our Queen deserves better promo treatment, especially for something as special as her first big movie role!

And many people highly disagreed with that choice based on the merits and thought Judi was only given it as a compensation for the year prior and her overall stature. What's worse, many also suspect it also to be a result of Harvey Weinstein's influence on the Oscars (since that was his and Miramax's movie). Even Ms Dench herself said she didn't think she deserved it.

 

Buuut yes, quality over quantity. I just want to see Celine act seriously, even if it's for a few minutes. And hear her sing with amazing recording quality and over cinematic speakers.

Well 1998-1999 was an unprecedented year for it, and the start of the new age of award campaigning really. They held a uniquely savage campaign that year, as documented in this video below. I actually think we -should- be highly skeptical of how and why the industry gives its awards. But that's another topic.

 

I do think Celine could steal the show, though. Who knows maybe another performance at the Oscars if it's that celebrated. I could definitely see critics saying "Well, the movie stunk, but Celine was a bright spot!" Or..."well, the movie wasn't so good, but did you hear Celine Dion's voice?"

Whether we agree with it or not… Whether we want her to play herself for a different character, if they do what you are inferring LOL how awesome would that be to basically base a whole movie around Céline Dion songs. Talk about promotion if they do this right!

Exactly. That is written, so she'll play herself. Otherwise something more vague like "the music and influence of a (famous/big/etc) singer give them the courage to take a chance on love again." And then they invent an "in-movie singer" and Céline would play that. But they mention her specifically.

Sorry I should have clarified, if the movie calls for a concert scene they can easily use The Courage World Tour footage.

And the song is at the end of the movie (3 min).
