scielle Posted October 8, 2021 at 02:44 AM Posted October 8, 2021 at 02:44 AM (edited) What do you mean with this stage story? Which act is that? And ResortsWorld is basically a Singaporean company right? Wouldn't be surprised if they were out of their element. Genting is Malaysian. And this isn't their first US property, so it's shocking they messed up something this basic. Plus it's not like payroll taxes are a US-specific consideration.Anyway for the interested, you can see their quarterly filings here, though the last one is for Q2 so only captures the 6 days of operations post the Jun 24 opening: https://www.genting.com/quarterly-reports/ And I was referring to this, re. their aborted plans for Garth and Adele: http://www.celinedionforum.com/topic/56145-new-las-vegas-residency-show-starts-november-5-2021/page__st__3390#entry2411695 Edited October 8, 2021 at 02:47 AM by scielle Quote

Shamrock_1982 Posted October 8, 2021 at 06:47 AM Posted October 8, 2021 at 06:47 AM I hope the show starts in darkness with ‘I listen to the rain falling down my window, praying for a gentle wind to bring my baby back again…’ then the rain on the big screen lights up a silhouette of Celine. ‘Loneliness is tearing’ apart this heart of mine’- lights up - ‘LEAVING ON THE NEXT PLANE OUT…’ applause applause applause etc. lol. Are you planning a trip mucker? Quote

Shamrock_1982 Posted October 8, 2021 at 10:26 AM Posted October 8, 2021 at 10:26 AM Hoping to head there for my 40th too, but she won’t be there when I plan to be there but hope to maybe see her in London if the tour evolves. 1 Quote
scielle Posted October 8, 2021 at 12:00 PM Posted October 8, 2021 at 12:00 PM When her Celinenaissance is over.Team Adele surely knows how to build a momentum. This is about Vogue though, not Team Celine. That said, yeah, it's frustrating seeing the buildup to Adele's next record, vs how Courage was handled, especially since IMO it's her strongest English record by far. I know this has to do with the nature of the contract Celine currently has with Sony - and perhaps it's just a distro deal with minimal services, so of course they won't spend on marketing - but it's frustrating nonetheless. (Generally a label will only commit to significant spend on marketing if it's a life-of-copyright deal (not a distribution or license deal) and if the streaming projections for the artist justify that spend. Guess Celine just doesn't fall in that category anymore.) Quote

Adele has the ‘machine’ behind her that Celine once had. Those days are gone and her Team seem to have lost their mojo, in a major way. In the era we live in, luckily there is so much an artist and team can do WITHOUT the labels money and support in this digital age and all. Her team and Celine herself have chosen not to embrace this. You have someone like Adele who builds hype first, very cryptic, then releases teases before ultimately releasing new music. Then you have Celine who releases an album with 20 tracks only ever sings two of them on her tour of the same name, watches the album go number 1 just to fall flat off the earth and does NOTHING to promote the album. If I were a songwriter I can’t blame them for not wanting to give Celine their best work… because lord knows when Celine cuts your song it goes on her album to die and likely never see the light of day again after the recording session is complete. 2 Quote

PuraVida Posted October 8, 2021 at 03:11 PM Posted October 8, 2021 at 03:11 PM Adele… I honestly couldn't think of a more boring residency & I'm being honest not horrible when I say that, she has about 8/9 well known songs, she's a singer not an entertainer, so what is she going to bring to make this amazing in a city like Vegas. This won't last long is my guess! Probably would make more sense for her to go there after the next album, not after this 30 one that's about to come out. But if they limit the amount of shows, it's likely to still be a sold-out affair. Celine started this whole thing! Quote
PuraVida Posted October 8, 2021 at 03:16 PM Posted October 8, 2021 at 03:16 PM I feel like Celine pulled away from her machine way too early in her career, or the machine pulled away from her. Of course, the music industry is way different now and she was building the empire of Vegas----but I feel like Adele and Lady Gaga will have these huge worldwide, blockbuster, creative releases until they are 40. Whereas Celine's albums stopped being "AN EVENT" after ANDHC basically. Courage felt like it could have been an event, but that was because it was her first album in so long and first English record after Rene died. Quote

Courage felt like it could have been an event, but that was because it was her first album in so long and first English record after Rene died. Before A Star Is Born, Gaga hadn’t had any form of notable musical success since Born This Way In 2011. And even since then, Chromatica wasn’t the massive music release they tried to make it, she was lucky with Rain on Me being a duet with Ariana which helped it succeed, but other than that, nothing for a long time. And as for Adele.. well If you’ve created demand by ACTUALLY disappearing for 3+ years between each release, then you’re bound to have massive success. I think it’s also important to note that at Adele’s age, Celine was in the middle of her hiatus after just dominating the previous 5 years of the music scene and had the previous year released a greatest hits album which sold over 20 million copies... and at Gaga age she’d just released ANDHC and OH back to back and started A New Day, she was hardly a slouch or taking her foot off the peddle. I think you’d probably struggle to find a female music artist who’s in their 50s and having any major form of success with a new studio album. Even Madonna with Hard Candy, a massive tour, a musical reinvention and a Justin Timberlake collab, only managed to crack 3.5 million sales worldwide, in an era where people still purchased physical albums and downloaded full albums which actually contributed to chart success. I’m not arguing Celines promo for the album was pretty miserable, but the issue with ageism towards women in the music industry and the success women (or frankly, anyone) is able to achieve after their 40s on major charts is very very small... especially for an AC artist 3 Quote

Lady Gaga had top 10 and top 15 Billboard hits and Grammy winning songs after Born This Way and also forged a very lasting collaborative relationship with Tony Bennett, a legend of music. And apart from music she was honing her acting career on American Horror Story which helped lead to A Star Is Born and then the upcoming Gucci movie. And the ageism and sexism of course exists, but I am talking about the ages 30 - 40 predominantly. Hence why I said "until 40". Regardless of the commercial impact, I think there will be a *smart* and *creative* push behind their projects that the media and public will eat up over the next 5 - 10 years. Each album will be considered a cultural event, even if it doesn't top the charts. Whereas I feel like Celine and her team lost the fiery and hungry edge after settling in Vegas in terms of album promo and vision. Quote

Someone like Anna Wintour. Or someone like Franco Dragone but with a Masters Degree in Business Administration (MBA). Instead she is stuck with Dave Platel who is probably about as artistic, whimsical, and cultured as a beige carpet. Edited October 8, 2021 at 03:51 PM by PuraVida Quote

No song which came after the Born This Way album (with the possible exception of Applause) had any notable success until Shallow, most of the “hits” peaked somewhere in the top 20 and quickly disappeared and have had no lasting impact on her career or music in general as her earlier releases did. Artpop, Joanne And Cheek to Cheek were all regarded commercial flops, and Artpop and Joanne were critically questionable. Even Chromatica which was her biggest release since Born This Way still failed to have the amount of success they tried to create for it, and hasn’t had the impact of Born This Way or even the A Star Is Born soundtrack critically or culturally, She’s clearly already on the decline in terms of being a woman in the music Industry, except she seems to be following the Barbra way of going into movies, rather than the Celine way of becoming a legendary performer and touring icon Forming a collaborative relationship with Tony Bennett is also hardly a large achievement outside of a personal aspect for her. And again, if we really want to compare by age and points in their career, Celines success from the age of 25-35 eclipses Gagas In massive proportion. It’s not really worth debating between the two of them at any point other than Gaga from now into her 40s because otherwise, they just aren’t comparable in terms of musical achievement or success Edited October 8, 2021 at 04:05 PM by AdrienneM Quote

My point was not to compare the numbers between Celine and Gaga/Adele. If you want to have that debate, go do it with someone else. And as I said, not a single one of those songs had any cultural, critical or true commercial impact. They’re forgotten songs outside of Gagas own fanbase. Artpop in its second week had an 82% sales decrease which made Gaga the *first* artist to have two albums in the all time biggest second week sales drops (the other being Joanne which dropped 70%), And with each passing album the debut week sales fell harder and harder and relied more and more on bundle packages and Black Friday discounts for maintained charting (Artpop being discounted by 65% to encourage further sales). Not a single #1 single and all the albums failing to be certified by the RIAA in their first year of release. And all are commercial flops compared to her first 2 releases. Sorry :/ And please, the discussion was clearly originally related to Celines failure to promote the album and thereby failure for any major commercial success, you then brought up Gaga and Adele who are 20 years younger and one of whom is worse off now than Celine was at her age. But regardless, this “debate” is clearly over and done with, shouldn’t have really started in this thread anyway as it had no relevance to Vegas whatsoever Quote
