OH MY GOD! I thought something bad happened to Céline! I opened my Twitter (X) and Céline is trending no. 1 in our country. I didn’t noticed first the Music - Trending at the top. I focused on her name LOL

 

I’m really missing her so much. Why they don’t just released concert videos for now.

This is pretty hilarious: Elisabeth Reynaud having a dig at Laurence Catinot-Crost, without naming names. At least she's admitting she's not actually Céline's friend

The only way to force Ms. Reynaud to declare that she is not a "friend" of Céline's is to encourage her to make biting remarks about Ms. Catinot-Crost. All the more so since she admits to having made pure recycling: her recent book "brings nothing new about the extraordinary woman, whom I approached and described” in the two books published in 2013 and 2020.

 

I laughed out loud.

Lots of artists are monetizing these days so this is not a far-flung idea. But in Celine’s case, I think all she could do is sell her royalty stream (because as far as we know she doesn’t own her masters - other than the really early French stuff, I think), and she didn’t write the songs so doesn’t own any publishing rights.

And even sadder, while I'm sure Céline's royalty stream is healthy overall, the fact that her catalogue really hasn't been supported or exploited much in the last 10-15 years means it's likely not worth as much right now as it should be. Could be a bargain for any entity willing to put effort into monetizing her discography! Might also be the only way that her material gets much attention in the future, since Sony and Team Céline aren't particularly interested right now.

They probably promised her to be big internationally, but on their conditions. That’s why Celine and Rene were asking songwriters to relinquish their rights for the songs. The main source of income for Celine was touring. The records were only a way to make people come and see her live, and a main source of income for Sony.

Was rewatching Celine’s announcement of SPS in French and noticed something at 2:18. Wondering if that was a short spasm Celine was having for a few seconds (she was trembling a bit, and pay attention to her leg and arms)…

I agree …I remember my co-workers watched it and felt so bad for her , and also said she looked like she was 70. I hope this past year she’s had time to destress . I’m so so tired of every time someone finds out I’m a Celine fan the first things they say is either “so sad she’s done now “ or “ya she looked like she was a 100 for a while now “. I want her to come back looking rested and well.

A slightly personal post, if you don't mind.

 

Today marks four years, day by day, since the Céline concert in Quebec City that I was lucky enough to attend. The inaugural "Courage" tour. If only we'd known...

 

I spent this anniversary in Montreal. Taking advantage of the recent reopening of the Notre-Dame-des-Neiges cemetery, I visited René's grave (and met a groundhog there...), then strolled through the city to the Basilica. In short, I enjoyed sunny Montreal, HER Montreal, with mixed feelings.

 

Seeing Quebec again always gives me great pleasure. BUT I can't help thinking that everything I did today, she can no longer do, and all those places so dear to her heart are no longer accessible to her... for an indeterminate time.

 

Maybe it's a little naive and a little stupid, but for all the joy of being in Montreal, it would be so much happier to be able to give way to her... “S’il suffisait d’aimer”, “If it were enough to love”. But it's not enough.

 

That's the injustice of this badly stitched world that I find hard to accept on this beautiful evening in Montreal.

Makes me think the rumours of her winding the business down are sadly accurate. I’m well aware it’s not a sign of anything but personally I’m now in the camp that she is completely done. I’d love to be proven wrong but I just can’t see it.

I don’t know what to think. Personally, I don’t think she’s completely done… I just don’t know what in what form will she carry on. I have doubts that we see her perform on stage anymore… however, could she get to a place where she’s able to get in the studio and put out albums? Or perhaps she gets more acting roles, etc.

 

However I do think that she will eventually do a huge sit down interview about her illness in both French and English.

At some point it makes financial and logistical sense to lay off people and start making changes. And a break allows them to do things that they may have previous put off i.e. structural business changes for management or financial reasons.

 

The fact remains that she probably has no idea when she will return, so how can she plan for the future?

 

I alternate between doom and gloom, and some hopefulness. But I was saying in another thread that I read the Wiki page for her disease, and it sorta makes it seem like once some muscles are affected by the disease, their full potential is lost forever. So even if they find a cure -- can she regain full use of her muscles to the point that she can sing like she wants to again?

I don’t think she’s done from the stage completely but her endgame will be very limited and on off engagements. Kiss world tours goodbye

 

On a further note imalgamating companies

Has nothing nothing to do with her health status ; but purely business

If she’s not planning on being that busy she doesn’t need her own production company and huge army of staff. Even if she comes back in some capacity she can 3rd party all of that.
