The recently translated interview, Invite de Marque 1993, comes to mind. As does Nulle Part Ailleurs 1994 or 1995. It is an interesting study of a woman: the journey we were able to watch as she became an adult in the 80s, as she fell in love and then conquered the charts in the 90s, and finally when she shifted her focus to her children in the naughts. She is without a doubt currently in strongest and most comfortable position she's ever experienced.

 

I like all her versions. I have to watch those interviews, but early Celine is attentive, intent, spuny, very disciplined, ambitious, always making sure she says the right thing or very conscious of all her moves, yet innocent, easily moved, and still excited and hungry to find out all the joys of stardom and travel.

 

I also think she was slightly more poetic in her words and speech in her earlier years too. But even saying all this, I am not sure if I articulated it well...there's just a certain "je ne sais quoi" when you compare a 1991 interview or 1992 interview with, say, a 2002 interview.

 

Which makes sense, stardom and maturity change people slightly and their image/privacy/priorities change.

Celine and Whitney were at the same 1997 private awards show. I hope one day we can get that footage, because she is said to have performed. And Whitney performed separately too.

Madonna has signed a new deal with Warner.

 

I'm am so grateful that we got a instagram video with a then/now moment of Ce N'était Qu'un Rêve for Celine's 40th anniversary.

 

How awful to be a Madonna fan.

For the first time, Madonna will personally curate expansive deluxe editions for many of her landmark albums, as well as introduce unique releases for special events, and much more"

 

That deal is an extension that happened because a number of her records were coming up for statutory copyright reversion and because it’s the first time ever she signed off on a comprehensive re-released plan. I wouldn’t be surprised if Sony did something similar when Celine’s albums start reaching the 35-yr mark (eligible for copyright reversion to the artist upon notice), in an effort to keep them/her.

In a recent interview, Claudette said that Celine is already living in her new house in LV.

and she said that Michel, the brother of Céline, is not working anymore. He stay in Québec now.

He was great for being her handler, but maybe he had too much influence in the last handful of years in other aspects. Not sure how much his role expanded. But sometimes the social media was of a such a quality that I suspected he was behind it :laugh:

I agree..but Celine has to stop employing all her family members. I am not saying it's bad, it's good and maybe there is a reason behind the employment. But it's the time for Celine to start giving younger and new people try. in fact, I say Celine should change her whole team every 1-2 years for fresh ideas.

I really think there is some kind of suppression of Celine content on Youtube. She gets as many searches as Mariah but yet gets way fewer views. It's weird

I think Celine may be bad under pressure. Almost all of her high pressure moments have always had something go wrong with them vocally, at awards shows or tributes.

 

This is partly why I think in the popular wisdom she is a "worse" singer than Mariah and Whitney

Really? I'd say the opposite. She always delivers 'when it's time'. High profile performances like God Bless America (9/11 tribute), Divas Live, her many Oscar performances..were all top notch.

 

You've seen most of Céline's performances (including less stellar ones) but probably only a handful of Whitney's/Mariah's more successful ones.

Some of Whitney's award perfornances weren't up to par either (her Grammy performances after the 80ies were usually a bit off for whatever reason).

Can't really speak on Mariah, but she's usually a bit meh live?

 

Out of the trinity, Céline is the only one who more or less kept her voice intact. Which is why I think many people will subconsciously (and unfairly) compare Céline's 'older' voice to Whitney and Mariah in their primes. Or they'll compare her MHWGO voice (her commercial but not her vocal peak) to Whitney's Bodyguard voice (both commercial and vocal peak).

If you compare actual peak vocals, the 3 of them are definitely on a par.

Celine has sung a song without being able to hear herself, sang MHWGO at the last second cause Barbara couldn't make it to their duet, sang a song reading the lyrics on paper cause she was called on last minute. She can self correct vocal issues/mistakes on the spot. She can have technical difficulties/wardrobe issues and make a whole fun bit out of it.

 

If anyone of the trinity works best under pressure it's Celine.

 

She get nerves or has off days, it's only normal but more often than not she delivers great performances when she has to. In the past few years we've seen her deliver excellent performances at events like the Aretha and Bee Gees tributes, or the Covid special. Divas Live showed Celine being at the top of her game while performing next to one of her idols while Mariah struggled.
