As some suggested, I will start with the My Love: Ultimate Essential Collection (since it seems like the latest and most complete). I think it will allow me to get a wide overview of her music before delving into specific albums.

 

I'll post some comments/impressions later when I listen to it.

For her English album, I would suggest starting with her Falling Into You album and her One Heart album. To get a range of all of her awesome songs, I would start with All the Way too. Her self-titled album is also amazing.

With her French album, I would def. start with On Ne Change Pas and then branch out from there. Good Luck and you have a gorgeous voice to listen to with these!!!!!! She's angelic!

No worries. That is exactly the way in which I discovered Celine, very suddenly and seemingly very late into her career. However, be happy that you have discovered her brilliance at all, for there are so many others who have not made this great revelation yet.

 

For starters, I would get ALL THE WAY: A DECADE OF SONG. It has all the great hits, including Because you loved me, my heart will go on, and my all-time favorite, To Love You More. You will love it; I'm sure.

 

As for the French, start out with D'EUX. The most famous and incredible song shall be found on this cd. I will let your ears and heart discover it

I think... start from "All The Way...A Decade of Song" is a quite good one!

and you can choose the songs you like most and find out the album, coz she has some quite different tracks on her ablum

and some non-singles are definitely better than some "hits", I guess someone has mentioned that, already~~~

Welcome to the amazing world of music created by Celine!

 

I'm a firm believer in collecting all of an artist's discs - and listening to them in chronological order. That way - you grow with them as their music/voice changes.

 

However - with Celine, it's different. Her career began in French - and while I think a fan should collects all of her French albums, a new English fan should begin with a solid English album. And I would suggest Falling Into You. It is vocally her best English album. Then, I would move on to Let's Talk About Love and All The Way. Then, I would go back and get Unison, Celine Dion, and The Colour of My Love. Then, I would get A New Day Has Come. Then, I would get her French albums beginning with D'eux.

 

So - in a nutshell. To begin with, steer clear of any early work or her most recent work. Start with Falling Into You - and then work your way through her amazing catalogue.

I don't think they actually went out? Just flirted a little, and she had a crush on him but nothing happened because she was so focused on her career, if I remember right. If anyone can remember what Celine actually said about it, correct me if I'm wrong!

I would start with UNISON from 1990 and then move up to every album after that and really get into how much her voice has evolved.

Make sure to share your thoughts! If you like what you hear, my rec's would be Unison for an early 90s sample, Let's Talk About Love for a mid 90's, and Taking Chances for recent. Then D'eux and 1 fille & 4 types for French. (a side note, I was intimidated by her French albums at first, but it is such another beautiful layer of her music, just take a little while to adjust to!)

Hey guys, I was reading the post about the chart info and it say that I'm Alive 2009 (which I assume is that awesome version from the TC tour) was on something like the hot dance or club chart somewhere. I was wondering if there is an actual recording of this version or if they are using an official live version? I loove the way she sings it during the tour so I was just wondering!

haha. how funny. I felt exactly the same after I went to her concert last June.. If only I had known I was going to love her sooooo much....

 

I just started with all the english albums.. From the first till the last.. So first I bought Unison and Celine Dion..

But I think My Love the Ultimate Essential Collection is a good way to start with!

First of all I would like to thank again the people who gave recommendations for which CDs to listen to of Celine in order to get started with her music.

 

I am a little busy right now and can't write any detailed impressions so I'll just limit myself to three words:

 

Best. Voice. Ever.

 

Yep, that about sums it up for now. After I got the Love Compilation I also got A New Day Has Come. I'll try to explain more fully later

Lots of them had difficult parts, but i'd say one of the hardest would have been Fade Away - not just because of the vocal but also because she was using the moving walkways too.

Some of the performances of RDMH had some extremely high notes.

 

I've Got The Music In Me is also a candidate.

 

I'm pretty sure the Alone high notes were live, they would be a contender.

 

All By Myself to (although the big money note was only live on the opening show)

 

Fade Away had great high notes in it.

 

And then Man's World was amazing.

 

Think Twice was amazing also in the few times she performed it on tour.

 

But my vote would be for It's A Man's World.

Long shot, but eh. The opening vocals from MHWGO from this tour (and at the end of the show from A New Day), is there any chance someone has the full studio thing? I have the 30 second one ripped from the A New Day DVD but I would LOVE the entire thing, it's so pretty.

I doubt Oprah knows how much anyone has sold, and i'm sure she doesn't care, she just read the screen and introduced her as anyone would. Mariah gets labeled biggest act, Madonna does, Celine does, Barbra does, it's never going to belong to just one person, that's just the way it is, who cares.

 

It wouldn't surprise me if Celine really was anyway, her fan base is very broad, she's the type of artist a "whole family" would listen to over dinner at night. her concerts have old, young, housewives, kids.........i even saw a disabled person at her concert when i saw it on tv.

 

...this is from MadonnaNation Forum, discussing about Celine Dion being the "Best Selling Female Artist of All Time" and having sold 200M albums worldwide. this made me smile...

It's obvious that Fly is on the list, that's really one of her saddest and most touching songs, but I don't quite get why The Power of Love is included..? I think it's more of a love song and I would see it more suitable for weddings and stuff, but not really for funerals..

Then again, My Heart Will Go On should really be in the list!
