What it boils down to is Sony is doing the level of work Celine finds acceptable. In the end, it comes down to what Celine herself deems okay. If she wanted more done, and demanded it from Sony by threatening to leave them, I have a strong hunch more would be done. I'm not going to go on another one of my tirades about artist v. entertainer again. What I will say, though, is I bet there would be a heck of a lot more done for this song if Celine herself wrote or co-wrote the track herself. There is always an extra layer of dedication and pride in one's work when the entirety (or majority) of the final product is created by one's self. So, as long as Celine is okay with average to mediocre work on Sony's part, we will never see any changes from them or her team. Period.

Who on Earth still believes that record labels are paying radios today to play their singers? Omg, that formula is way too old and old-fashioned today, and both record labels and radios aren clever enough to know that it’s the public who dictates what they want to listen to, based on the streams and popularity of what is played on the social networks today.

 

Not more payolas today, they’re even regarded as foul play, and if they exist, they’re a residual part of what they once were. People is on the streaming services today, and if only that’s where record labels pay to advert their artists’ new albums.

 

 

 

But radios won't play Celine even if the songs are sent to them.

Her last 2 major singles didn't even hit the top 40 on the Hot 100. Radio just doesn't play her, so why is SONY US going to waste the money on that kind of distribution when they know they're not going to get a return on it?

 

Radios are SICK of hearing Céline covering songs from others and not receiving original songs from her. They got tired of that years ago, that’s why she lost credibility on radios because of always sending covers! Just send radios a Celine Dion cover song, and you have served on a silver platter the automatic “NO”, they won’t even care to listen to it.

 

Release 5 original good songs on a row, and *maybe* radios will consider again playing her somewhere.

 

They spoiled it big time with Taking Chances, sending Alone too. And they keep doing the same mistakes releasing songs like TSMGO two years ago Grrrrrrreat.

She may be great on YouTube, these past two years, she's coming back, getting stronger on social networks and on YouTube, her views have increased, so it could also be her fault for not charging her record. Madonna's songs also do not play on the radios, but she records many music videos, she charges the record company, she's a customer, if the customer is not satisfied, break the contract, go to another label that gives her the best treatment, Do not let things fall as they are.

Yes, she does a lot of shows, sold out tours, but I do not want her to be alone, as if she were an artist of 60 years or more who lives on her legacy and shows.

It's also for advertising on streaming services, iTunes, Facebook, twitter, Instagram etc. The posts may be free; but the banners and advertisements certainly aren't. If Sony knows radio isn't going to play her, they're not going to send the song. They're not going to make deals with the radio stations' parent companies, and they're certainly not going to pay for advertising. Whatever money Sony can allocate to promote where the majority of their audience is paying attention, is where they're going to put their money.

The music industry is super manipulative- I think if the most popular radio stations played Ashes a few times a day for a week straight - it would be the next "Hello". If they gave it that push, the song and the nostalgia of Celine and add to that her devoted fan base - she would have a huge hit song on her hands chart-wise. It's simply a really great song with an awesome video. That just isn't the right formula anymore if u want to be a chart topper these days! I have to no longer get frustrated over radio play and get super stoked over YouTube play. Maybe someday billboard and radio will be obsolete anyway!
