Still number one on iTunes Canada, and with a green update, outselling Shawn Mendes by a wide margin.

 

Canada's market is relatively small so it will be interesting how this translates on the Canadian singles chart!

Just like clockwork the resident "experts" swoop in to defecate on everyone's parade.

 

You missed the entire point of them choosing Celine. It was all tongue in cheek and was specifically meant to draw upon her established image - which is exactly why she should be dressed in that typical-Celine dress, in those extravagant jewels, and performing at the Colosseum which has become synonymous with her career and legacy. The whole gag relies upon Celine's classic image being unironically presented, this was never meant to fulfill delulu fantasies of Celine-as-Britney/Beyonce/Shakira

 

In terms of the song, I can't count how many straight male comic-book geeks I've seen who are NOT Celine fans declaring their love for it, so that speaks for itself.

 

And lastly - this is her voice now. Like seriously. It's been this way for years and she's not getting younger. Either deal with it or find another diva to worship because NOTHING WILL CHANGE.

 

Half of your criticisms are trivial af and literally have nothing to do with Celine but you basically boiled it down to her "phoning it in."

 

So yeah. Be sorry you rained on parades.

Do people not realise that modern ballads very VERY rarely have a massive high note chorus. High notes now are regarded as pointless and imo if it was like that, it would just be labelled as classic Celine and nothing new where as this one is all about feelings

 

Demi Lovato is a really good example of a singer who still manages to incorporate high notes that show off a similar range to what celine has. Her last album shown that in nearly every song. Her tour as well. She did tire out toward the end of her tour, but early on she was on fire singing songs that were hits today all with many nice high notes.

 

Otherwise i do tend to agree with your statements. High notes don't have the same necessity that they did in celine's earlier years. A voice being the primary focus is something that has become less and less. It used to be that a high note was the climax and everything before built up to it. Nowadays. Songs may have a high note, but it isnt something that is anticipated.

I mean Céline has bad days sure but these 2 girls are sometimes completely painful to listen to. And Demi is only 25....

I think her Spotify/Streaming numbers will be very very low (despite the video views) and I highly doubt she'll debut on the Hot 100.

 

However, she has already surpassed my wildest dreams in every way by the shock of this ---nearly 10 million views in a two days and a top 10 iTunes hit---here I was hoping after GMA yesterday she would eventually chart inside the Top 200 songs and maybe hit the top 40! LOL.

 

The movie is not out yet and I think if her team has shed do some press with Ryan Reynolds and even a performance or two; this will definitely have longevity.

 

Also, the song is phenomenal. I know what it is now that makes me love it. It's old but new. And because of the time of the song and not-overly-climatic which she did in songs like I Surrender, etc. It makes you want to hear it again and again much faster. It's brilliant really.....

 

Hats off. This has to be on her new album. A must.

Ryan Reynolds said in a French Interview, that Céline does not care about the money and he is still surprised that she accepted.

 

I guess for three reasons: Her oldest son, might know about Deadpool and overall her Team found it a good opportunity for being still on competition wich seems to be the case!

 

However, listening to the lyrics, I think that Céline feels so much related to the words (The prayers ain't working anymore/ And when I pray to God all I ask is can beauty come out of ashes), as a God believer I really think that she defo. felt connected to that and with René, (It's not not a coincidence, that we see her twice doing the cross sign on the video I guess!)

Good point --- I think RC is a huge help for Celine to understand the younger generation and to help her remain relevant while also remaining true to herself and what's already made her an Icon.

 

This song for Deadpool is the PERFECT example of Celine marrying her image with "today".

I, also, wondered what happened to her face. Maybe she has had work done on her time off.....but it is weird!
