I was also thinking this yesterday while watching the video, if same thing like this happened say 10 years ago or maybe even 5 years ago, it wouldn't have the same effect, as the general public's perception on Celine has really changed in the past couple years.

Ryan Reynolds said in a French Interview, that Céline does not care about the money and he is still surprised that she accepted.

 

I guess for three reasons: Her oldest son, might know about Deadpool and overall her Team found it a good opportunity for being still on competition wich seems to be the case!

 

However, listening to the lyrics, I think that Céline feels so much related to the words (The prayers ain't working anymore/ And when I pray to God all I ask is can beauty come out of ashes), as a God believer I really think that she defo. felt connected to that and with René, (It's not not a coincidence, that we see her twice doing the cross sign on the video I guess!)

I so agree with this. I believe that Celine has come to a point in her career and life where she doesnt do anything for money anymore. She is successful enough to be able to choose her projects. It is possible that RC had something to do with it (being a fan) , her team probably thought it was a good idea, but above all, as soon as you hear the lirics and watch her singing it you know very well why she choose to do it. This song is all about her right now. I am sure she feels connected to the lirics.She is still having a hard time adapting to her new life without Rene ( we saw that very well in her interviews for her Asian tour). The lirics say it all and the' when I pray to god' move says it all! ( yes the sign of the cross)

This is exactly the point!!

 

At first I thought a video in the Colosseum...ugh how original!! Then I got the concept, which is genius really. It’s Celine over exaggerating her hand gestures and performance to the max cos I imagine that’s exactly what the director asked for. It’s Celine, the diva, basically taking the piss out of herself, because she’s the ‘anti-diva’ in a way just as Deadpool is the ‘anti-hero’. I love Celine and I love the superheroes cinematic universe, have seen every movie...Marvel and DC, so this whole project is a dream come true for me. Especially the fact that it’s Deadpool, who appeals to a whole different genre and not just comic book geeks lol. The movie’s rated R ffs, who would’ve believed she would’ve gotten involved in a project like this. She never ceases to amaze me!!!!

 

However, all that being said, I’m not overly crazy about the song if I’m honest, to me it’s missing another bridge and chorus for sure and I don’t love her low/deep tone that she mostly chooses to sing in these days. However I understand that her voice has aged and I accept that. If I want to hear her crystal clear voice and amazing tone of her younger years, well I’ll just listen to one of her older recordings so no big deal and I’m just thankful, as we all are, for something new, after all we’ve craved it for so long.

 

Like we’ve all said many times, I’m just sooooo thankful that she’s still doing this, without Rene, and I’ll be there for it every step of the way!!!

 

I hope she’s well and certainly hope she’ll be ready to go back on stage later this month cos I think she’ll be ripped to shreds by the small minded people of this world if she cancels again after showing up in between cancelled runs doing this.

The song is great. Every single reaction video from non-fans remark how good her voice is. And she doesn't have to sing every single song with high piercing notes. There are plenty other opportunities with plenty other songs on the album to bust out the high notes.

I don't mind with it because it's true. And when I see the video on Yanis instagam where Celine together with Ryan and Yanis, I see that her face looks normal.

This is kinda funny to me, and a proof young generation simply Don't know her voice or even who she was, so many of them hear her probably for the first time ever and they're amazed. On the other hand, for us it's just a "normal" straight forward performance without any voice acrobatics. Imagine if those kids hear her full capacities

It just occurred to me that since the A New Day Has Come / One Heart era in the early 2000s, there's only been 3 English-language music videos proper (ignoring the lyric videos / live performances / TV specials)...

- Incredible in 2013

- and now Ashes in 2018 !

 

This makes this even more meaningful and something to cherish.
