You missed the entire point of them choosing Celine. It was all tongue in cheek and was specifically meant to draw upon her established image - which is exactly why she should be dressed in that typical-Celine dress, in those extravagant jewels, and performing at the Colosseum which has become synonymous with her career and legacy. The whole gag relies upon Celine's classic image being unironically presented, this was never meant to fulfill delulu fantasies of Celine-as-Britney/Beyonce/Shakira

At first I thought a video in the Colosseum...ugh how original!! Then I got the concept, which is genius really. It’s Celine over exaggerating her hand gestures and performance to the max cos I imagine that’s exactly what the director asked for. It’s Celine, the diva, basically taking the piss out of herself, because she’s the ‘anti-diva’ in a way just as Deadpool is the ‘anti-hero’. I love Celine and I love the superheroes cinematic universe, have seen every movie...Marvel and DC, so this whole project is a dream come true for me. Especially the fact that it’s Deadpool, who appeals to a whole different genre and not just comic book geeks lol. The movie’s rated R ffs, who would’ve believed she would’ve gotten involved in a project like this. She never ceases to amaze me!!!!

 

However, all that being said, I’m not overly crazy about the song if I’m honest, to me it’s missing another bridge and chorus for sure and I don’t love her low/deep tone that she mostly chooses to sing in these days. However I understand that her voice has aged and I accept that. If I want to hear her crystal clear voice and amazing tone of her younger years, well I’ll just listen to one of her older recordings so no big deal and I’m just thankful, as we all are, for something new, after all we’ve craved it for so long.

 

Like we’ve all said many times, I’m just sooooo thankful that she’s still doing this, without Rene, and I’ll be there for it every step of the way!!!

 

I hope she’s well and certainly hope she’ll be ready to go back on stage later this month cos I think she’ll be ripped to shreds by the small minded people of this world if she cancels again after showing up in between cancelled runs doing this.

This song made me realise how much I love her and how much I miss her. Nothing close to what I felt with Recovering or HDAMLF, which, despite enjoying them so much, they didn't have the hook I'm feeling with Ashes. Period

 

Is it because we're all seeing her at the same time as listening to the song for the first time? Maybe. Just consider it. But let's not forget the importance of having had a videoclip released just at the same time as the song. A great part of this feast is because of a movie collaboration involved, a funny videoclip done and the comical ingredient in it too. It's a mixed bag of things together what brought the attention. I'm sure if the song had come on its own dissociated from all these things, it wouldn't have got much attention after all.

 

Sooo let's hope Celine's team jumps on the wagon and inundate us with making of videos and videoclips of her future songs: this proved they're essential for sharing her music!

 

(Edit: I still miss a videoclip for L'étoile and Ma faille. And LMBTL. And Eyes On Me, and Shadow Of Love, and. And. And... )

 

First listen I hated "Ashes". 7th listen I really liked it. I'm up to about 130 listens now and I think it's one of the best songs since Adele's "Hello".

 

I'm glad I'm not the only one seeing Adele's Hello here. I spotted the similarity since the first listen!

Btw, I see her vocals back to her glorious yodelling in her 90s albums. Like her natural yodelling in TCOML and FIY albums. I'm glad she brought that back because it's one of the signature traits of her voice
