I smell the world premiere of how does a moment last forever

Maybe!

Introduced by Ariana & John? They're both there.

Although, seeing as her concertmaster is back in Montreal (for the next 2 months), I suspect even if she were to perform, it wouldn't be something with an orchestra / string section.

Wanna bet Law is with her :P

I hope RC will sit next to her tonight.

If Law is with Céline, he's going to be seriously busy since he's also styling Zendaya and Ariana. Ok not sure if they will attend tonight but Ariana will be there.

Curious to see how or if he will split his time between Céline and Ariana

She maybe doesn't want to promote the singles, but she also doesn't have the time anymore.

So it's a bit of both. Think if she had less Vegas shows there would be still more time for other things, and then she would find the joy to do a bit of promo again (2nd, 3th singles etc)

She also is always "sad" that she records beautiful songs that don't see the light of day, and don't "live" the albums.

So she says 2 opposite things.

Simple: because they view Céline as an album artist (she always has been) and treat her promotion accordingly. That means she doesn't "need" to bring out a lot of singles. It may change a bit with Aldo now, but this has been the case for a long time now....

And also.... Céline doesn't want to endlessly do promotion anymore. So they really have no choice..they can try and promote the heck out of it, but if Céline doesn't want to do promo for her 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc. singles, it ends there. Céline has a 30+ year career, she's in a different league now...so why do you continue comparing her to all those current artists who have had much shorter careers?!

She hasn't released an (English) album for years and she still manages to sell out shows. She doesn't need it.

Can they whip up a quick Al Jarreau tribute in a few hours?

So enjoyed seeing him at the Montreal Jazz Fest several times. A lovely, kind, immensely talented man. RIP

Al Jarreau, seven-time Grammy-winning singer, dies at 76

As a side note, I always wished Celine would sing Take Five one day. Girl can dream.

When you are happy to find 1 supporter for every 7 people who quoted you stating opposite facts.

In the world you reside there is Celine Dion who neglects her albums and a record label which does not support her releases in return. Go ask ANY lawyer out there if this theory makes sense from a legal standpoint. Do you really think there is a contract stating the album promotion will come in proportion to the interest Celine shows in the album/promotion? Had Celine decided, for WHATEVER reason, to neglect her albums since 2003, then chances are her contract would have been terminated.

You - and the likes of you - treat the relationship of Celine and her label as an interpersonal affair: Celine shows neglect and the label reacts to it by not promoting her albums! Well this is not the case because such a move HARMS THE LABEL ITSELF! It is all about business and if it was decided to promote a given record up to point B and not up to point D, then this is a mutual decision. Deal with this and stop acting smart over issues you have no clue about. Again, if you think what I state is wrong, go ask any lawyer out there to give you insight on the matter.

shes not doing the beegees tribute at the actual grammys? oh thank god! i was dreading that. im sick of her constantly doing tributes when she just doesnt do them justice, why didnt they get her to do these tributes when she could do them justice back in the day?

Given the fact she has sung Immortality I would genuinely enjoy this tribute! It really connects to her discography. In general, I find tributes boring to be honest.

Well I don't need to. Happens to be that I AM actually a lawyer  , in the Madrid Bar Association to be more precise, and particularly specialised in IP -Intellectual Property. In fact my Master's degree internship was done @ Universal Music offices in Spain, so I perfectly know how Music contracts work and how record deals work... I also got to know a few colleagues @ Sony Music so yeah, I think I know a couple of things about this world. Don't need to say this here but since you're taking it as far as you always do and nitpicking everything, hell, why not

So I perfectly know what and how a contract with a record label works, and it's not the same for every singer and it can consider as many promotion aspects as you want, detailed or not, including or limited to countless possibilities. It mostly depends on the money the record label is spending in that artist AND how far the artist want to go with the promotion on the album. Subject to success of the first album sales and the success of the first single too. The contract can contemplate from the launch of one single album to several albums, and from one unique main single to several of them, depending on sales and success of the album AND the promotion BOTH parts want to do. Everything is negotiated, and can be negotiated.

Now on the terms that concern here, and regarding Céline's case: Sony Music does not neglect Céline's singles just overnight, for the sake of it, and I didn't say nor implied that this happened within the course of a contractual obligation. You say it all to yourself (as usually). What I did and do say, is that consequence of the lack of availability from Céline's side since many many years ago, after her albums and first singles have been launched, to keep the promotion of an album during the second, third or any subsequent singles after the first one, it's only obvious that Sony Music, as a record label, ceased to contemplate this promotion of a second or third singles in any TV show, music video or whatever other investment they could do. Since Céline has a limited availavility of time since 2003, after she releases an album and a first single, it's only logical that Sony Music stopped considering the support and promotion of more than 1 single from each album, and particularly, the consideration of doing music videos and sending Céline to TV shows to promote those singles. Which obviously cost money for the record label.

To put it in other words, Sony Music just gave up. Even if they wanted to promote and pull more singles of the ANDHC album in 2002 and through 2003 (in a time where it was not rare that an album had more than 3 singles released), they just had to abandon the idea, because Celine simply wouldn't be available to defend and support them personally. Taking Chances was the last Celine Dion album that had more than one videoclips done, and Loved Me Back To Life had the same luck, this time not even for the first single but for Incredible, as you know. So as you see, it's not even compulsory to shoot that videoclip for the first single, if time or the availability of the artist are not suitable. But still, Sony Music released one videoclip from the LMBTL album. But the contract probably doesn't contemplate more than one videos anymore.

Sending an artist to the Grammys and perform a single? That costs money too for the record label. They have to license the song and the rights with many different parts. Let's suppose Céline had been miracoulously nominated for a Grammy in 2008 or 2014, for an imaginary single taken from her last English albums. Why supporting a singer who hasn't done the least effort to promote that single in her shows, and when nobody knows the song because she hasn't commited to promote it in her concerts, shooting a video for everyone to watch in the world, etc? It's only logical Sony Music doesn't promote more singles from her albums. Well, nowadays they do lyric videos, at least  But what concerns the physical presence of Céline to promote those singles... it's a lost cause.

That Céline neglects her own material in favour of usually including covers everywhere she goes (say a concert or a TV show) -that's clear as water, and we've seen it countless times, how many lost chances of performing her own new songs in her shows, concerts, TV shows and etc that she has missed, either in the Vegas residency or in top shows like Oprah. That you acknowledge it or not, that's not my problem. But every fan here has brought up this issue in some or another form, since ages ago.

That Sony Music reacts by not promoting her albums... There are different forms to withold the support to an artist, and it's not rocket science that since Céline does not commit anymore to promote second and subsequent singles from her albums, is more than probable that Sony Music does not contemplate that possibility in her contracts anymore. Simply because she's not available to promote them, for whatever reasons Céline may have. But that's just so plain logical from Sony Music's side.

And let's not forget, for a record label that has made of Céline her goose that laid the golden eggs during many years, in the 90's, it's not any sin that they're not supporting her as much as they did in the past. They already won a lot of money with her. Should they like to make some more money, extending the life of her albums further than only one main single? Of course, this is a business. But if the artist cannot commit herself to support her own work because she doesn't have the required availability, then there's no point.

And no, Sony wouldn't have broken his relationship with Céline as a consequence of this, I hear you say. Even with only one main single released and fully promoted, Sony Music is still making loads of money with her. After all, she's a household name with almost 30 years within the company ;)

Anyway, I don't know why I explain all this to you because you don't really deserve it. But it may be interesting to others, still. Next time, "think twice" what you write and take your arrogance to another place, master Luke, because you may end up with a blunder, and it's not the first time

Last but not least, I'm sorry for the rest of the members for this off-topic, but I think I had the right to defend myself from this guy taking this to the personal level -legal issues and particularly in music happen to be my background studies, my degree specialisation and ultimately my job-. Hope you find it interesting at least :flowers:

I hope she presents "album of the year" or "song of the year" awards. A red carpet interview. A few photos with other artists. And that's all. We've had enough tributes where she's taken part since 2004. All I want is to see her back there among artists. Let's hope she wears something great that has all fashion police guys talk about her all-day long tomorrow. That's exposure and that's what she needs to remind people out there that's she's still active.

I'm going to see the show since "Adele" and "Twenty Five Pilots" are competing in many categories and want to see if they win.

You really think you killed it with your comment? And writing in bold that this is not the first time I assume you are telling yourself you are winning arguments here? Ok. Funny, so I will let you have this!

You talk about the flexibility of the contract and also mention potential negotiations. Where are all these elements in your previous posts? What you stated was ''The only reason she is not a single artist anymore is because her record label can't commit to support an artist that is not even commiting herself to defend and promote the new music released''. Since you are a lawyer and understand the significance of details when talking you should have said something in the lines of: ''The only reason she is not a singles artist anymore is because, after possible negotiations with her label, it was agreed that she would offer a more limited amount of time for promotion''. This way you make the situation appear to be the rational result of a mutual decision, something you did right now (and I said before), instead of presenting the matter as if Celine is being punished for her lack of commitment. So why say ''her record label can't commit'' when in fact you mean that it CAN commit but this is not what was agreed?

All in all, it is a mutual decision. She does not suffer the consequences of her actions. Thanx for finally agreeing with the fellow laywer. :flowers:

Met her where?!?

Well they've got to rehearse the presenters, too. It's a well-oiled 3.5-hour (!) machine.

Also, this fiddler / vocalist currently performing on the pre-telecast show is amazing!

Hmmmm does she usually rehearse the same day and then go home and then come back? I mean it always seems to me she just pulls up right before she goes on stage and presents her thing, does the press thing, and just leaves... maybe she will be on the red carpet this time?

I didn't know love until they loved me back to life because somebody loves somebody!
