I just heard it the other night. I think it's got lovely instrumentation and great lyrics. Given what she's been through it's really sad but I love it. I think it's amazing. I doubt it will go on her new album but who knows, maybe it will!

CBC: 'It's not magical': Peabo Bryson on new 'Beauty and the Beast' song

It's a good rendition, it's just you can't — the thing not to do is not to compare it to its original. And [it's] falling short. Way short," he said. "It's not magical."'

Also: http://www.cbcmusic....ry-peabo-bryson

"Bryson and Dion recorded together in a separate studio session from Lansbury. They sang with a glass partition between them, so that they could still see each other while preventing any audio bleeds. Dion and Bryson’s duet version was released as the only single from the movie’s soundtrack.

Bryson: When you're a great singer like [Dion], oftentimes you find yourself in situations where you have to dial back. I learned that from doing duets: the key to it is to play to your duet partner's strength and weaknesses equally. So essentially that renders [it] into a situation where there are no weaknesses because you're playing to them both equally.

There's a partition between us and she's very tentative, she's looking at me, and so she sings some of her — let's call it her B stuff. And she's waiting for my reaction to see how I'm going to respond to it. Am I going to go, “Oh my goodness” and shrink or am I going to step up and give her some B-plus stuff and encourage her to raise her game? So that was the exchange. Probably the first take, she relaxed and realized that she could just go for whatever she wanted to go for. And it didn't take long. Maybe an hour.

We never said a word to each other until we walked into the studio, [that] was our first greeting. And when you're just greeting someone for the first time, it's all about being polite and trying to make your potential duet partner feel comfortable with you. I mean, she knew my work and I knew her work. We knew each other through our music. Not through personality. And that's the other thing that made her apprehensive, you know? You don't know what's real and what's not real until you're actually in the studio with that person and they're standing across from you, facing you. Is it the real deal or is it not? Are they the real deal or are they not? You don't know really until then. Because you can fix anything in studio [laughs]. Trust.[/color]

I looked across at her and she looked back at me and what went on from the point of becoming relaxed was extremely intimate. You can't buy that. You can record it, though."[...]

Bryson: What I did not get was when there was a lot of opposition to us doing the Oscars — Céline and I doing the Oscars. Behind-the-scenes stuff that you didn't know; we didn't know until a week, 10 days before the Oscars if it was gonna happen or not. [Angela Lansbury] wanted to sing the song herself. You're a teapot. I'm sorry. Let's be honest, she's a teapot. What's she gonna wear, a teapot outfit out on the stage at the Oscars?

[...]

For the 1992 Oscars, where Lansbury, Dion and Bryson performed “Beauty and the Beast” onstage together, the duet partners only got two tickets each to the show (for Dion and husband René Angélil, and Bryson and his date). Dion brought her parents, thinking they could stay in the dressing room area, but Bryson says, with shared dressing rooms, her parents ended up standing in the hallway. So he gave them his seats to the show — “I figure anybody's got 19 or 20 children [Dion is one of 14], they need a seat” — to the consternation of the security guards. Later, it was a story that Jay Leno wanted Bryson to tell when the two singers were guests on his show.

Bryson: We got into a fight about this with Leno. He wanted me to tell this story. Well, Céline had been crying all day long, we don't know why. So I'm going on. [Leno] keeps feeding me the line to tell the story, and I won't tell it. I'll tell another story. About the Oscars. But not that one. So the commercial comes up and he gets in my face. And he's like, "I kept feeding you the lead-in for the story." I said, “Listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, hold on. Céline's emotional today, everybody knows it, and we don't know why. She's my friend, you're not. We have time. If she wants me to tell that story, maybe she doesn't want 20-30 million people to know she only had two seats and didn’t have a seat for her parents. So let's ask Céline and then you can ask me again.”[...]He said, “But I fed you the lead-in.” I said, “Listen, you're the talk-show host, ask the intelligent questions. I can give another intelligent story.” So you know, we really got into it. Next thing you know, I'd called him something, and he'd called me something. And I said, “F--k you,” and he said, “F--k you” back. So I [said], “Now you're not gonna get it out of me after all. I don't care how many times you lead into it, ain't 'gonna happen.” If anybody wants to know who put that dent in his car, when I was leaving, I'm the one. Look no further. I did it. And turned over the bike. I did it."

Love you Peabo!!!!!!Such a gentleman!

So if BBC Radio2 played the song, does that mean it's officially a single in the UK?

Or was it just a "test" with the audience?

this article shows how decent Peabo is and what a friend he is. we should all tweet and post on her ig and fb that we want him to sing beauty and the beast live with celine again.

Wow I had no idea. I wonder what she was so emotional about, poor thing. Even he didn't know. I love how he described singing in a duo. I had a duet partner for years and that is exactly what you do, play to their strenghts and weaknesses, it's soooooooo much fun. I really liked his explanation on that.

I own most of her albums, but not all of them. I just recently started buying things online, as my relationship with the Internet is as good as Celine's relationship with it. Before that, I had tried to find some of her old albums in music stores in Greece, but with no success.

I need to get One Heart, Miracle, My Love, A L'Olympia, Au Coeur Du Stade & On Ne Change Pas to own everything from Unison until Encore Un Soir.

All you need is a trip to Montreal to get all this and much more. One stop shopping. Lol

Even when she's scolding someone she is heartwarming! How does she do it!

It's a talent. :D

Yea, what the heck was she so emotional about? I'm guessing it has something to do with Angela Lansbury and certainly more than what she's letting on. According to Peabo it sounds like they wanted him and Celine to sing at the Oscars but were putting up with Angela being a real diva about it [lmaooo I can't believe he called her a freakin teapot :DDD]. I'm guessing she was probably being extremely passive aggressive towards Celine on the day of the Oscars [she called her the 'Canadian lady' in the interview lmao]. I'd never seen that Oscars performance before but did you see how she literally walked on stage at the end completely blocking the dancers? Man that woman is full of herself but Celine went out there and was the class act she always is.

it sure seems like Angela Landsbury was having an attitude, the canadian Lady . Wtf is that... is there someone who is not remembering the name Celine Dion... And her not understanding why the song was so succesful, that's because of Celine and Peabo , not you . Edited by québecflower

I sent Angela a letter and photo to sign when she was in London doing a play. It was returned unsigned with a letter saying she is only signing memorabilia from that play.

Ok the movie s fantastic! I thought Emma was wonderful as Belle. I will probably see it again. The song is the first for the credits introducing the cast. Of course everyone is leaving and it is loud sooo you can't hear it too well but the song sounds fantastic in the theater setting. The father sings a few bars of the song during the movie.

Ok one side note, in the movie Gaston shoots the beast and he is dying on the floor and Belle is crying over him and kisses him and that made me ball my eyes out because I couldn't help think of what she said about Rene.... I tell y'all I was balling! I wonder what she was thinking during this part?

Disney’s “tale as old as time” is back in theaters this week with the live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast. Las Vegas headliner Céline Dion recorded the animated movie’s titular song for the original soundtrack in 1991, and it became one of her signature hits.

Now, 26 years later, Dion has again lent her legendary pipes to the House of Mouse for “How Does a Moment Last Forever,” one of the original songs included on the recent release’s soundtrack. Before you hear the track while watching the credits roll, read on for Dion’s thoughts on the song, family time at Disney theme parks and more.

Did your kids see the movie yet?

Not yet … but I can’t wait to see it again with them.

What do they think when they hear you in a film?

Well, actually, when [16-year-old] R.C. was 2 or 3 years old, he was getting pretty emotional when he heard my voice. I couldn’t sing around the house. My [6-year-old] twins are the same. And now, every time they hear a girl sing, whether it be any female voice singing, they look at me and ask: “Is that you singing?” I don’t know if it is because they do not want me to be in the room when they listen to me. … So they ask, and every time I answer “Yes, it’s me” … or, “No, it’s not.” It’s interesting … They are so wonderful. Both Nelson and Eddy play instruments—they play piano. They have great voices, and I think Nelson will be a singer.

Since the first song became so iconic, was there any pressure about replicating or not replicating the past?

At first, yes, absolutely. … I am still very much in love with my first “Beauty and the Beast.” It put me where I am today. It was such an iconic moment, still is and will be for the rest of my life. When I heard they were doing Beauty and the Beast again, I asked myself why. But then I saw the new version with real characters, and it was totally another type of feeling.

So I really didn’t feel any pressure, in a way, because it was not the same song. And I am now very honored to be part of this.

Take us back to the mindset you were in when you recorded the original song, compared to now. How have the emotions changed? How have you changed?

Well, the first time I did “Beauty and the Beast,” it was at the beginning of my career. And it was a duet with Peabo Bryson, whom I still admire a great deal today. And I think of him often, especially now, and I thank him again for allowing me to sing that song with him.

Now, with this new song, my emotions have changed. Life changes—you grow, you get older, you get more mature. You have more life experience. I am a mum … so it changes my whole way of seeing things.

We’ve seen that you enjoy lots of Disney theme-park time with your family. What’s your favorite ride?

Every single one of them! When I go to Disney with my family, I reconnect with the child in me. Who doesn’t?

I don't understand about how a song gets nominated for an Oscar. As I said earlier, the father sings a few bars of HDAMLF during the film then of course she is the first song for the credits. Is that enough?

Really? I haven`t watched the movie yet but I agree that must have been very very difficult for her to watch. It is very much what she said about Rene.Poor Celine! Well I am going to watch the movie and now I know that I am going to cry my eyes out!

Here's a new one. Celine (politely) putting a reporter in his place, during the BATB premier.

Here's a new one. Celine (politely) putting a reporter in his place, during the BATB premier.

She just has so much class. The reporter has his right to ask whatever question he wants, and Celine also has her right to pick what she wants to answer. I used to be a reporter too, and when I hear the interviewee telling me "I hope u know where u are today", I would usually get offended, but the way how she wrapped her hands around the reporter's hands, and added I don't want u to miss any moment tonight, that's just so gracious.

Reading Peabo's article -- I appreciate even more what Celine said about Rene during the Celebration of Life -- that he never criticized other artists, and he never wanted her to either, in front of anyone else. Honestly, I think Peabo's comments about Angela Landsbury were a little obnoxious. Angela's version was actually in the movie itself, and (if I recall correctly) that meant it was the only version technically eligible to be in the telecast. I think this was written about in the Germain biography - that Rene fought for Celine to be able to sing it.

But dismissing Angela as a teapot and saying she can't compare to him, the great vocalist -- I think that's kind of inappropriate. The movie they were all singing for is a cartoon, for crying out loud, and she did an amazing job playing the teapot; sounding just like a grandma. (Celine imitated it at the premiere!). It wasn't intended to be a great vocal performance - it was intended to evoke the character she was playing.

Do I like Celine's version better? Definitely. Am I glad Celine got to sing it at the Oscars? Of course. But I know Celine would never speak like that about Angela Landsbury, and I'm glad.

It's also hard to imagine Peabo cursing at Jay Leno! So contrary to the smooth, romantic persona of his songs.

And I think he was saying that Celine was crying the day of the Jay Leno show, not the day of the Oscars itself. I don't think I've ever seen the Jay Leno with Celine and Peabo being interviewed on the same day. Has anyone seen it?
