NicoNV Posted May 21, 2016 at 03:25 AM Posted May 21, 2016 at 03:25 AM One correction to my post: the portion about the twins very rarely seeing Rene. I added a comment in brackets because I did not think she meant that literally. I read her interview in People magazine, and she did mean that literally. The twins were accustomed to not seeing Rene due to his health. This is how she kept Rene's death from them for a few days while she considered how to tell them. If I could edit my original post, I would delete that parenthetical. The twins did, in fact, sadly, very rarely see Rene the past few years. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
celinelover03 Posted May 21, 2016 at 03:44 AM Posted May 21, 2016 at 03:44 AM What interests me is how involved Nelson and Eddy seem with wanting to kiss Rene's photo every morning and night...even though they rarely saw their dad while he was sick. I know that they knew he was at home and he was there and that he was their dad, but it just really intrigues me that they love to say good morning and good night to their dad now that he is no longer here, even though he really wasn't a big part of their lives up until that moment. When Rene was well, the twins were too little to even remember. Quote Et je t'aime encore, comme dans les chansons banales...
NicoNV Posted May 21, 2016 at 04:06 AM Posted May 21, 2016 at 04:06 AM (edited) What interests me is how involved Nelson and Eddy seem with wanting to kiss Rene's photo every morning and night...even though they rarely saw their dad while he was sick. I know that they knew he was at home and he was there and that he was their dad, but it just really intrigues me that they love to say good morning and good night to their dad now that he is no longer here, even though he really wasn't a big part of their lives up until that moment. When Rene was well, the twins were too little to even remember. I think they saw him, just not very often. They were so little and are still young. So the sickness and loss probably do not have the same meaning for them. That was their dad. That is how they knew him. They loved their dad and he loved them. So, not being there for every minute of their day, doesn't mean the same thing if the situation were different (like if they were too young to have memories of him at all) because they knew kind of one way of being and their life with him. The good news is that kids are amazingly resilient. And her kids seem to be surrounded by people that love them. Edited May 21, 2016 at 04:09 AM by NicoNV Quote

Angel2006 Posted May 21, 2016 at 08:25 AM Posted May 21, 2016 at 08:25 AM When kids are that young, seeing someone with a tube in there stomach and being really weak and ill can be confusing and hard to fully understand. I think what Celine was trying to get across was that Nelson and Eddy couldn't be around their father nearly as often as a regular healthy father would be around their kids. Of course they still saw him and spent time with him every day, but it wouldn't have been the same as a healthy father who can spend hours entertaining there kids, running with them and playing with them. Rene would simply not have the energy to keep his little ones entertained for a long period of time. Young kids need constant entertaining. I think what Celine meant is that she was and is more a part of Nelson and Eddy's lives then Rene was in the final years of his life because Rene wouldn't be able to run around the yard, chasing balls and throwing his kids up in the air. He was to weak and ill for that. For the past 2 or 3 years Celine has basically had to fill the role of both mother and father, because there were many things Rene wasn't able to do anymore.I remember reading an article where Celine said that she let Nelson and Eddy be very involved with taking care of their father. Celine wanted things to feel as normal as possible for her kids. I remember reading that Nelson and Eddy would help change their dad's feeding tube and feed him. I think they still spent a good deal of time with him. It was certainly enough time to create a strong bond. That is evident in the way Nelson and Eddy are showing there love for their dad now that he has passed. Quote

scielle Posted May 21, 2016 at 03:43 PM Posted May 21, 2016 at 03:43 PM It's lucky they have so much family footage - from the TCWT filming, all those Julie & Oprah specials. I think that might be a reason he agreed to so much filming, whether they'd ever admit it or not. To have something for the kids, just in case. 1 Quote

chocolatechip15 Posted May 24, 2016 at 01:37 AM Posted May 24, 2016 at 01:37 AM There is a new clip on Facebook from the interview airing tomorrow. Celine says that for three years, Rene was practically isolated in his bed, and the twins saw him about once a day, for maybe 3-5 minutes. This was because Rene didn't have the strength -- I think she also said Rene had trouble seeing and hearing and couldn't eat at the table with them. It's so sad to hear this, and it must have been incredibly hard for them, but I wonder if it was really for that long a period of time, or if it just seems that way now to Celine (the last months must have felt like an eternity). Because it couldn't have been three years -- Rene was diagnosed in December 2013, and died in January 2016 -- that's just a little over 2 years (not 3 years). And in summer 2014, Rene was playing in the poker tournament, accompanying Celine backstage to that Ete Indien show; they said he was going to RC's games -- I would think the twins were seeing him more then. Even last spring, on the GMA interview, Rene was with her, and she talked about the twins helping her with the feeding tube. However long it was, it must have been terribly hard at the end, when he was so weak. 4 Quote

She always kept up such a positive attitude that I guess we just never realized things were that drastic. I can't imagine how difficult that must have been for her. And RC. No wonder he's so mature. Dealing with that kind of thing sure makes you grow up fast. Quote
