The René Angélil legacy

Other people may sing at the funeral.. I'm especially thinking about Ginette Reno, Garou etc. Celine should do whatever she wants but I don't think it would be wise to sing and if at all she should sing a French song.

Personally I think it's more likely she performs at the Celebration of Life tribute in lv, than the funeral. Think I'd prefer it.

If it's a state funeral, as is supposedly the case, then I think so. Yes.

I believe you're right on that one.

I think Claudette said something quite poignant in an interview she did with Radio Canada on Fri - "He did not give Céline her voice, but he gave her her strength."

The interview is here, by the way:

OHHH WOULD SOMEONE PLEASE BE SO KIND AND TRANSLATE, WHAT CLAUDETTE WAS SAYING ....

Please guys, PLEASE, someone record and upload the funeral!!!!!! I need to see it and be kind of present.

This reminds me of what Ginette Reno said - that René was needed in heaven ...

Unfortunately I don't know who made that cartoon and where it had been published.

If its a national funeral it usually is on tv. Well over here its usually broadcast.

No I don't think Celine should perform at the funeral. She should be there as his wife. Be with the kids. I wouldn't even be able to speak, let alone sing. They can always play a recording of hers. I just want her to grieve. I know what it's like if you don't deal with it. But like everything now, it's up to celine. If it's her decision I go along with it.

It's going to be hard to watch.

Wonder how many people will go and see René on Thursday?

René is getting a state funeral, so I would imagine the event will be broadcast in some way.

TMZ is reporting 3 networks will broadcast it. I think we had said TVA said LCN would show it... I imagine CBC for her english speaking fans and the last one well I don't know...

Celine Dion will not be singing at her husband Rene Angelil's funeral because she is still in the throes of grief.

Reports have surfaced Celine will perform at Rene's funeral, but she quickly squashed them.

Her rep tells us it never crossed her mind to perform -- but it's possible one or two of her songs will play in the background.

According to his wishes, the ceremony will be held at Notre-Dame Basilica in Montreal where he and Celine got married 21 years ago.

The funeral will be televised on 3 networks and flags will fly at half-staff -- Rene was Canadian and well-respected.

Celine also lost her brother to cancer just days after Rene died.

I find it highly unlikely she would sing at the funeral, she's going to be worrying about the boys if the boys are their.

Thank you.

I thought it was crazy that there was a rumor that she was going to be performing! I think that would have given her critics a chance to pounce on her also.

I wouldn't expect Celine to perform at Rene's funeral. I bet they'll play "All The Way" since that was their song.

If anyone could post links to a streaming of the service it would be appreciated

No idea if any of this story is true, but it (and the comments) made me smile: http://www.nolandall...g-rene-angelil/

Thanks for sharing this -- I love the story, and it sounds like Rene. (The author clearly didn't know him too well, though -- she thought he wasn't comfortable speaking English??? For heaven's sake, isn't it one of his native languages? He's certainly spoken it fluently since he was very young).

My favorite is this bit from the comments:

I sat next to Rene in a WSOP $2500 No Limit event in June 2012 and I had to try not to freak out because I had been a big fan of them both since I was 12 years old. I eventually worked up the nerve to speak to him and ask how their babies were (they had just had the twins within the year).

He was very friendly and became quite talkative. He asked me if I had been to see Celine’s “new show” (the revamped one from when she returned in 2011 after a couple years out on world tour). I told him I had tickets for the opening, but was forced to give them away when I got the flu and just hadn’t gotten the chance to make it back yet. He immediately gave me his personal email address and insisted, “Once WSOP is over, be sure to contact me so that you and your boyfriend can come to the show, on me.” I couldn’t believe it. I did email him about 3 weeks later and his assistant called me within 24 hours to inform me Mr. Angelil had a pair of tickets for us to attend the show. Which was unforgettable as usual and just made me an even bigger fan (as if that was even a possibility).

It didn't hit me till today while I was cleaning and had my iPod on me, where does my heart beat now started playing and I stopped mid track and almost lost it, of all the songs this one hit me the hardest, so many consider it a break up song but in this week the lyrics I feel describe how we are all feeling for Celine.

I think because it has now become a state funeral by the Canadian Government, is the main reason for it being shown on tv. Only my opinion.

Yes but her agreeing to a national funeral is agreeing to let the world in
