We already kinda knew the new single was coming April 22nd and that the tour will include 2/3 songs and that the album was pushed back to the Fall, BUT hearing Xavier Dolan wrote a song for the album is very interesting!! Let's hope he'll direct some music videos too!!

On a d'abord pensé que ça y était. En fin d'avant-midi, lundi, la page Facebook du fan club de Céline Dion, les Red Heads, annonçait que Xavier Dolan aurait écrit une des pièces de l'album que la diva lancera vraisemblablement à l'automne.

L'information s'est finalement révélée à moitié vraie. Par la voix d'un membre de son entourage, Xavier Dolan a fait savoir qu'une «chanson a bel et bien été écrite à l'automne» et que celle-ci faisait partie de l'album «jusqu'à tout récemment».

 

Malheureusement, précise Dolan, «Céline ne l'a pas prise».

«La raison de ce refus lui appartient», conclut le cinéaste.

 

De son propre aveu, Xavier Dolan est un grand fan de Céline Dion.

Dans une des scènes les plus marquantes de son film Mommy, les personnages principaux dansent au son d'On ne change pas, un des plus grands succès francophones de la chanteuse québécoise.

According to The Red Heads, Xavier's song was initially accepted, then recently removed from the album. No real reason for refusal has been given.

Maybe Xavier's song wasn't good enough. Who knows. I'd rather have great songs written and produced by Unknown artists than mediocre songs written by celebrities or even a star. I wonder why Céline didn't accept Xavier's song and without giving him a reason...

Not a good move because Xavier is working on his first English movie with big names (see below)!! He could have used some Céline music in his English movie but now he will probably Think Twice...

My guess is that albums usually end up taking a different direction then what's originally planned out. Maybe the album took a new direction after Rene's passing and Xavier Dolan's song didn't fit in with the album anymore?

 

That is the only thing I can think of it being, since apparently his song was originally excepted by Celine's team. There has been many times over the years that Celine has had amazing song written for her that she had to reject because they didn't fit into the end result of her albums.

 

Map To My Heart for example was a song that Celine really liked and she loved the way her voice sounded in the vocal very much, but in the end the song was cut from the album. Another example I can think of is That's Just The Woman In Me. That song was going to be on the Falling Into You album, but it didn't fit in with the other songs so it got scraped and didn't get recorded until 11 years later for Taking Chances.

 

I just hope the there isn't any song cuts when it comes to JJG. That would suck. Everything he touches when it comes to Celine is pure gold!

It's pretty amusing (absurd?) how this Xavier Dolan thing is getting blown out of proportion by French-language press!

I mean, people send her thousands of songs, and she records - what - 15? 20? Every 4-5 years? No matter who you are, odds are slim. These article titles are so dramatic. All these headlines how she refused it. Really? Did she? Or did she simply chose to record 15 other tunes which she identified with more than whatever he came up with at this particular time? Happens all the time with great songs and great songwriters. There could be a whole host of very valid reasons. Do we really know how it all went down? I'm yet to see a credible source for all this kerfuffle. Seriously, why the drama?

 

Regardless, I'm fairly certain they'll collaborate on something at some point in the foreseeable future. It's just begging to happen. Looking forward to whatever / whenever that might be.
