Midway through a recent phone interview, Céline Dion abruptly breaks off. “Just a second, honey, I want to wave to my fans,” she says. Suddenly, the 48-year-old diva can be heard cheerily saying “Bonjour! Hallo!” while the sound of screeching worshipers comes through the line.

Her limo is entering the backstage entrance at the Centre Bell arena in Montreal, Dion later explains, during a summer residency in Quebec.

After more than 220 million albums sold worldwide, that’s the sort of reaction the Quebec native (who releases her latest French language album, “Encore un soir” next Friday) should be used to. But this year, the adulation has turned up a notch. Dion has made a triumphant comeback to music following the death of her husband, manager and mentor René Angélil at the start of the year.

“My fans have so much empathy for me,” she says. “At every show now, I feel like 20,000 want to hug me and ask me, ‘Are you OK? We love you!’ ”

Céline and René had been married for 21 years when he died in January, succumbing to throat cancer at 73. After an initial cancer diagnosis in 1999, he had been in remission until the end of 2013. For the last months of his life, Dion fed him through a tube, while simultaneously trying to comfort her children (René-Charles, now 15, and twins Nelson and Eddy, 5).

“It’s very hard to explain what it’s like to see my husband die, every day in front of my eyes, and then go in the kitchen to try and make meatballs, or play hide-and-seek with my kids, then go back and see my husband die even more,” she says.

More distress followed when Dion’s brother Daniel died two days after René, also from cancer. Already grief-stricken, Dion couldn’t make it to Daniel’s funeral.

At the time, Dion was in the midst of recording the album, but took a break to deal with the twin tragedies, and she admits that it feeds into the music. “It’s not all sad songs, but lyrically, we definitely do get close to the most difficult time of my family’s life.”

I think someone has already asked it but I couldn't see any answers, the CD version included in the vinyl edition is the one with 15 songs? And does it brings the booklet with lyrics, pics and so forth, or that it comes only in the CD versions?

 

Apparently the CD that comes with LP does include all 15 songs, but the case is just a thin cardboard without booklet. That's what I understood. It looks like the one on the photo on Amazom.

 

Another question is: Is there any difference between the package (case/sleeve, booklet etc.) of Deluxe and Standard edition? Except the first one contains 15 tracks. What are the visual difference between those two.

The deluxe one comes in that charcoal box and the standard one is just in a plastic case I think.

Correction, an idiot working for LaPresse said that SA was disappointing.

Who writes that as a first sentence? Maybe to show he's unbiased, which could help Celine in a way haha

Haha, yeah I did a double take when I read that. In my books it's right up there with D'Eux and SSDA. Definite top 3 material.

I bet they were late with the production of this Behind the scenes DVD. They put a picture of it on Amazon thinking they would be on time, but it was suddenly withdrawn and they think of putting it on the re-release in November.

Can't agree about Sans Attendre... I can't stand the duets, but almost every other song on it seems really great to me. IMO, Sans Attendre is on par with D'elles and both of them are just a bit less exciting than D'eux.

Hope EUS will be at least as good as SA

It all comes down to taste, and I kinda agree with the writer. I barely listen to SA. Except for maybe 2 songs... Most songs are good, but they don't really stand out... And album IMO is really good, if you can still listen to it/most songs years later. 1F&4T is far superior IMO, D'elles is better too..
