Ukrfan Posted October 30, 2020 at 05:40 PM Posted October 30, 2020 at 05:40 PM I don't often hear him enunciate like this. Most singers from the UK, I don't know are Brits until I hear them speak. Celine sometimes just drops consonants altogether lol. That's always been a thing with her since she started recording in English. I think most of the pronunciation in MHWGO is pretty good. The soft "d" sound you're speaking of makes more sense in that phrase from a pop music perspective. Rather than having her sing two hard "T's" so close together. Hmmm I don't listen to Sam Smith, so I I will take your word for it. I am now wondering... whose demo Celine received? Was is Sam Smith's demo that she listened to and based her version on? I didn't notice her dropping consonants in her songs. Could you give me an examle? Her "usband" is noticable, of course Quote
Jeanette Posted October 30, 2020 at 05:55 PM Posted October 30, 2020 at 05:55 PM I reluctantly listened to Sam’s version to compare them, I’m not a fan of them anyway and think it a bit snide to give Celine, someone he claims to love and admire, a song only to basically steal it back for his own album. They said on TV interviews here in the UK that they had loads of songs for this album so why do that! I feel it’s a bit crappy but hey. Anyway at least now we know where Celine got the pronunciation for magic from, Sam’s demo clearly 😂 I’m not a fan of Sam’s voice at all tbh, I know they can’t help the lisp but it really annoys me and honestly if I didn’t know the lyrics already I would’ve struggled with Sam’s on first listen. I prefer Celine’s but it’s not my favourite song on the album due to how she sings it. Love her as I do but I wish she would stop emulating the people whose songs she singing, it’s like her quirky nod to them which I get but she’s Celine Dion so she doesn’t need to. Apologies as well if I’ve mixed up my pronouns in talking about Sam, I find it extremely difficult but mean no offence. I had to back track and change all the he’s so I hope I didn’t miss any 1 Quote

Not fair. Same for the leaked demo of loved me back to life by Sia. Not long after Celine's version the sia versions came on YouTube. Why? Shamrock_1982 Posted October 30, 2020 at 06:19 PM Posted October 30, 2020 at 06:19 PM (edited) I think the courage album is an album for everyone but each song reflects something different in life that people may experience and therefore certain songs speak/mean more to others than other tracks on the album, and that’s what makes it such a special album. That’s why I love “lying down”... been there and when I first heard it, I was a mess and now and I love to listen to it and remember how far I’m come. Just like, for the lover that I lost, and imperfections, speaks more to people who have had those experiences also. I only now understand why it took so long to release... it’s perfection. I’d love her to do what Sam is doing tonight and perform the album online from a studio for fans, it would be incredible. Edited October 30, 2020 at 06:21 PM by Shamrock_1982 1 Quote
Chantemoi Posted October 30, 2020 at 06:50 PM Posted October 30, 2020 at 06:50 PM This is easily in my Top 3 from Courage. While I don’t love her enunciation, the lyrics, melody and arrangement are perfect in my opinion. One thing that irks me about her version is the last chorus. Her vocal delivery is softer, but it still sounds too similar to the other choruses. I like that Sam’s version went lower, because it made it stand out as a bit more. Quote
PuraVida Posted October 30, 2020 at 10:00 PM Posted October 30, 2020 at 10:00 PM I'm all about annunciation, but he pronounces just about every "T." I find that annoying in pop music. In musical theater or classical, I 100% get it. Pop music should have a little bit more of a smooth flow. For example: "All if the fighTing seems so sweeT." Too many "T" sounds in such a short phrase. "All of the fighting seems so sweeT" would flow better with the "T" sound closing out the phrase. I honestly couldn't make it all the way through his version. And I adore his voice, normally. I didn't notice that. Maybe now I won't hear anything but that. Quote
jpatdeleon09 Posted October 30, 2020 at 10:48 PM Posted October 30, 2020 at 10:48 PM (edited) I think Sam Smith did the blending well for that song with Céline like he really did it on purpose like he knows someone will mashup their voices together. Amazing! I think I prefer this duet/mashup version for this song. The arrangement of Sam Smith (instrumentals) also fits with Céline’s vocals. I think it’s better than the instrumentals done for Céline’s version Edited October 30, 2020 at 10:54 PM by jpatdeleon09 Quote

Surprisingly enough, yesterday I found myself hearing Sam's version for five times in a row what that never did happen with Celine's version I love her soft vocals on "Say yes", so having these vocals on The lover that I lost could have made all the difference for me. " @celinedion is one of the greatest singers in the world, ever…she can make anything sound emotional, and believable…i came across this the other day while reorganizing my studio…i chose to share this comp book (not sheet, but book) to demonstrate what it takes to be the best in the world...the commitment from céline to get the emotion of a vocal performance right can take (at times) only a few takes, and other times, it can take days, with vocal sessions lasting north of eight hours…what impresses most about céline is that she is more committed and disciplined at this point of her career than ever…to be clear, this is not about perfection, it is about emotion, moving people…the lesson here, is to remain humble, work hard and keep it human…always..." These words about Celine's emotional dedication while recording a song are really nice, but can someone please explain what those numbers in Stephan Moccio's Facebook post mean? 1 Quote
ryba Posted October 31, 2020 at 09:32 AM Posted October 31, 2020 at 09:32 AM (edited) I prefer Celine's arrangement, especially with that weird/autotuned vocal background... this really sounds like a demo, an unpolished rapid recording. I’m not familiar with his music so I don’t know if that’s his standard, but to me it’s like he released the demo he send to Celine. Also, Celine made it more dramatic and assertive, and less soft. beelee Posted October 31, 2020 at 12:44 PM Posted October 31, 2020 at 12:44 PM I quite like Sam’s version. I don’t have a problem with Sam recording the song. It’s not like people really know Celine’s version besides the fans. I don’t think Sam is stepping on anyone’s toes by recording it. Quote

Bruno Portugal Posted October 31, 2020 at 09:58 PM Posted October 31, 2020 at 09:58 PM This is simply the song that the world needs to hear in this crazy time. Even the music video, sober and solitary, fits with what we are experiencing today. Can we make Courage go viral? 6 Quote My Webpage >>> TRIBUTE TO CELINE DION

A new day... Posted November 8, 2020 at 10:44 AM Posted November 8, 2020 at 10:44 AM (edited) I find Celine's version more flat, there's no variation wether it's in her voice or the orchestration. But I don't really like Sam Smith's voice that much. It sounds electronic most of the time. Both versions are "meh" to me. With Celine taking the lead because of her voice.
