It's certainly odd to hear him sing it, and I noticed that he sings "For The Lover That I've Lost" most of the time.

I prefer Celine's arrangement of the song actually, but Sam's version is really nice. I actually expected Sam's version to be better than Celine's, but I don't know what I think.

Celine version is better but maybe it's because it's the one I am used to listen

But if she does not want to or is not interested...

I think people forget about this. Yes I agree Céline really needs someone by her side like René or Aldo, BUT, this also isn't the Céline of the '90's or the Céline with only 1 kid or the Céline who is still trying to be famous. She has other priorities and it's kinda apparent in all sorts of things over the last decade.

She’s set for life. She doesn’t have to work another day in her life if she doesn’t want to. She’s not working to keep the lights on. She can retire and be just fine.

I do wonder if the whole tour would be cancelled what would it cost her?

I doubt it would cost her anything. I’m sure she didn’t get paid for the entire tour upfront so it’s not like she’d have to return money. It’s more a contract issue and, if she wants out of her contract with AEG to perform so many dates she might have to pay them to get out of it. We all know how Celine honors contracts though so it’s a moo point. (FRIENDS reference.)

Just heard Sam's version, it sounds so beautiful, damn why Celine didn't sing it normally without the fake Sia-accent. The lyrics does thouch my heart, the lyrics are amazing. This song is radio friendly.

Forbes always mentions Celine is worth over $400 million and we know it's much more than that thanks to Vegas... She keeps working because she loves performing, that's pretty clear. She always has. But if she retired, she probably wouldn't know what to do with herself. She's so active and full of energy.

Now how many of you would keep their jobs if you were worth $400 M!!?? Let that sink in... :giggle:

but it's not she earned that money and it stayed with her for decades. She and her family are living, they are travelling, shopping, living a lavish life style. They are spending money every day. And she has staff that she has to pay on a regular basis.

She still makes more money than she spends. And investing that fortune is probably enough to live a few lifetimes. :D

Some fans here will come up with anything to belittle Celine and attack her for not doing as much as they want her to. She literally said she doesn't need to keep doing this but does cause she loves it. Even if you don't believe her, we had Stephen M. recently make a post saying how committed she is to her music now more than ever but I guess he's making up lies too. Everyone is making things up about her.

And imagine thinking buying a couple of couture outfits a year were gonna leave her broke lol. Celine and her kids won't spend all the money she's made.

Plus she's not someone irresponsible.

I prefer Celine's arrangement, especially with that weird/autotuned vocal background...

Céline's version is bad because of the way they recorded her vocals. The quality sounds ehhh It's like they wanted the "vintage" quality of her vocals. Her voice is very different from the other songs on Courage album which is better.

I prefer Sam's version and the arrangements. I think it's more open. You should compare it so you'll know the quality. Céline's sounds close and Sam's quality is more open.

I listened to Sam's version -the first thing i noticed is his timing. He was a bit off time and it distracted me. Second, he has this high voice that i usually really like. Not in this song. Third i miss the wohoohah sounds in between the verse\refrain. That gave it more impact in Celine's version. Fourth, most important i think, Celine sings it for Rene, the lover she lost and i like her lower voice here and she has the timing right.

Surprised someone hasn't already created a mash-up of the two - it's bound to happen soon.

I looove Sam's version as well! Both versions are great and I'd love a duet of them, sometime, somewhere...

Sam talking about For The Lover That I Lost at 9.25. They has such a respect for Céline saying that they feels like covering a Celine song

I prefer Celines version too, but what I appreciate in this version is the "traditional" arrangement. What i don't quite like in the Courage album is this dominant synthetized sound, especially in this song, Say Yes (it would be such a wonderful song if it had a nice guitar arrangement, kind of like PQTE during the Courage tour), and Perfect Goodbye (however here it even fits quite well) Edited by ryba

I think the song is a good song, the lyrics are just too strong for it to be bad in any arrangement. Maybe Sam would've chosen her arrangement if it hadn't been done already.

I think it would've been one of my favorite Celine songs ever if she used proper annunciation and pronunciation like Sam did. I think Celine sounded more emotionally into the lyrics, though. I still enjoy his version, though.

I liked what he said about it being a "Celine" song. Shame she didn't perform it on tour.

I guess song writers don't really care if their songs get out there because they keep sending her material. Any song writers out there have thoughts on that?

Traditional arrangement, yes. The strings sound way too fake though.

I’m all about annunciation, but he pronounces just about every “T.” I find that annoying in pop music. In musical theater or classical, I 100% get it. Pop music should have a little bit more of a smooth flow.

For example: “All if the fighTing seems so sweeT.”

Too many “T” sounds in such a short phrase.

“All of the fighting seems so sweeT” would flow better with the “T” sound closing out the phrase.

I honestly couldn’t make it all the way through his version. And I adore his voice, normally.

Lol. Interesting to hear that from you. Isn't it due to his British accent? I am used to hearing American accent more, like fighDing or New York CiDy, so whenever I am listening to BBC, their accent irritates my ears.

Celine does it as well quite often, doesn't she?. She still sings *t* when Americans would normally drop it, e.g. at the end of words.

Even in MHWGO! Whenever you hear an American singing that song, they would sing it closer to "my HA®D will go on", but Celine pronounces the T very softly and clearly. She does the fast D sound before "and" in her live versions though, so it sounds even more different (you are safe in my haaDen, my haaT will go on anD on...).

I don’t often hear him enunciate like this. Most singers from the UK, I don’t know are Brits until I hear them speak. Celine sometimes just drops consonants altogether lol. That’s always been a thing with her since she started recording in English. I think most of the pronunciation in MHWGO is pretty good. The soft “d” sound you’re speaking of makes more sense in that phrase from a pop music perspective. Rather than having her sing two hard “T’s” so close together.
