Lolo88 Posted December 3, 2019 at 10:59 PM Posted December 3, 2019 at 10:59 PM (edited) Honestly, guys, I don't know what to think about the Courage era so far.. 😕I mean, the album is really bombastic, well produced, current, fresh and modern from "Flying on my Own" to "Soul". There's absolutely no filler songs and each of them means something special to Celine after what she's been trough. The cover art is also really perfect to me.. BUT..The world tour she's currently performing in north America shouldn't be called "Courage". It's more a "Greatest Hits" tour including two new songs. Why is she so scared to perform her new material ? 😕 she always said 5 is her lucky number. Then, why not performing 5 new songs ? "Flying on my Own", "Lying Down, "Courage", "Imperfections" and "Perfect Goodbye" or "Best of All" by example ?I will see her in the Netherlands in June but I hope by then, there's gonna be less covers ("You're The Voice" 😨 I hate that song 😒) and more news from the "Courage" album.Then.. Why so little promotion from Sony Music and her team ? I mean, come on guys! IT'S HER FIRST ENGLISH ALBUM IN 6 YEARS and they're scared to promote it! For once, they're doing well on her social media but why is there no more tv shows for her to perform ? Let's compare this era to the "Taking Chances" era.. in 2007, she was literally EVERYWHERE! Why not this time?! Even during the "Loved Me Back to Life" era, she had more promotion than now. Even in 2016 and 2017, when she had NOTHING to promote.. 😠😡Honestly, I don't understand their "strategy". It looks like they only count on her name and aura to sell an album.. It's not enough anymore.. now, all they're doing is watching the album fade away from the charts all around the world..By the way, the 2 music videos we had so far aren't revolutionary but they aren't bad at all. Simple, classy and glued to the new icon image Celine has now. Will we have the "Lying Down" music video ? Or maybe another single ? Time will tell..One thing is for sure.Celine Dion isn't over yet. I'm sure of that ❤ Edited December 3, 2019 at 11:01 PM by Lolo88 5 Quote
JulienMcbeal Posted December 3, 2019 at 11:03 PM Posted December 3, 2019 at 11:03 PM (edited) René pushed for promo, but that was different. They were building her career, making hits upon which she could surf for years when she would stop topping the charts. It was the time for hard work and being everywhere. Now Celine has a solid career (performing), so she couldn't care less about making hits again or even sell records. That's what she wants. So it's okay for me. (just sing 5 Courage songs in your tour, Celine, and speak about music in your interviews, and you'll be the real goddess on Earth, thanx! ) Edited December 3, 2019 at 11:04 PM by JulienMcbeal 2 Quote Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans

She released 4 new songs prior to the album’s release and 2 music videos so far in support of the album. She launched a world tour in support of Courage and she’s performed 19 shows through the end of November. Overall, I think it’s fair to say she could have done more promo the week after the album’s release (even though she deserves and should spend her time off with her family). Also, it’s a shame we didn’t get any live tv performances from Courage except for Imperfections at the Macy's Parade (so far). It’s fair to say she should include more Courage material on her Courage world tour, but realistically this wouldn’t drive more sales, it would just be for the fans who want to hear her new material. With that said, I don’t think it’s fair to suggest she’s done nothing to promote the album, that’s she’s lazy, or that she’s indifferent to her new music. Also, I don’t think it’s fair to say this album is a flop. I’d much rather have a problem of Celine getting a number 1 and dropping (US only), rather than her album altogether floundering and getting no publicity like many of her peers. Plus the album is cohesive, has garnered her best critical reviews for English material in years, and is an artistic progression. Yeah we can nitpick pronunciation, singing full rounded vowels, etc., but at the end of the day we have 20 new, original Celine songs and I’m in love with many of them. Chap my #ss for this post’s length, but had to get off my chest. Oh and btw, Celine is the greatest singer I’ve ever heard, one of the greatest performers to have lived, and a wonderful woman...proud to be her fan and always will be. 20 Quote

JulienMcbeal Posted December 4, 2019 at 01:18 AM Posted December 4, 2019 at 01:18 AM (edited) Overall, I think it’s fair to say she could have done more promo the week after the album’s release (even though she deserves and should spend her time off with her family). It’s fair to say she should include more Courage material on her Courage world tour, but realistically this wouldn’t drive more sales, it would just be for the fans who want to hear her new material. Overall, I agree with your text, just a few downsides: First, spending time with her family is great, she's of course entitled to it (big worker as you said) and we're no one to judge, but doing promo is part of her job when she releases an album. If you don't want to work during the holiday season, don't release a record at that time. Are Lea Michele and Idina Menzel bad persons for performing on Thanksgiving? It's their job, Idina promotes Frozen and released a Xmas album in the same time, Lea's got a Xmas album too (both are nice records). They might live in NYC though, I don't know. Second, performing Imperfections on TV did boost things a bit, it also happened when she added Imperfections (sorry, replaced LD) to the setlist. So I think more promo would help a bit. A very tiny bit, that's true, but still. But in the end it won't do any miracles, Celine always hated promo, I don't really mind the relatively low promo (though I won't lie, I'd like a bit more of it ), she prefers touring, so be it. And of course the album is great, that's the most important thing. PS: do posts as long as you like! sarit_celine Posted December 4, 2019 at 02:56 AM Posted December 4, 2019 at 02:56 AM I think knowing new details about this album and to hear the people who worked with her as wellin interviews, can only add "extra" to that lovely exprience when it comes to have a new album after so many years. For English promo, many of that were short segments, sometimes about one minute long, and if there were long interview segments, she was not talking in depth about the album, not singing new songs, except for one blessed occasion as we know, and it was fantastic. Seriously, wouldn't it be wiser to do some 4-5 main promo stuff where she fully addressthe album and the vision behind it, where people who worked on the albumwill be invited too (God forbid for thinking that), and to make one or two specialsabout the album, instead of all that promo that revealed nothing new about the album?Wouldn't it be better for Celine herself, instead of wasting so much energywhen she has nothing new to say I expected, that her team will create short videos, out of interviews, shared on her official accountswhere it would be worth sharing with no fans in order to evoke their willing to hear her new music, but it had to bring something new and interesting and that didn't happen (yet). If things were different with promo in French interviews I would be happy to know that. And yes, she was under stupid embargo during many interviews that preventedher from talking about this new album (Dear me, now I have a new theory about thatwhy they did it from the first place!) But after she was allowed to talk about the album, again, I can't recall her sharing interesting detailsabout the album (Maybe that's is yet to come?) Why one have always to be in this mode: "Better things may come soon" with Celine? I'm not blaming her that things got messed up for the week-album promo, but from the first placeall the things related to Courage seems to be done in a hurry (Promo, Tour planning, ignoringher first single from her new album in years.) I love listening and to hear what she has to say, no one says she is not a hard working woman, but on interviews, one wish she will give a big space to album related topics, just because she wants too, she decided to go and recording an album,it's so stupid that fans write "She hates doing promo"! If one hates itthen what on earth he is still doing in this profession. Stop giving excuses all the time. That's what one see here all the time. I'm happy to see that Imperfections is still doing well on charts, where she and her team did everythingin order to kill the potential of this song on charts, but had to "give up" once the songis still flying on its own in the charts. One can hope this is just the beginning and moresingles and videos come ahead, or it still not late and they prepared something for holiday times. Even that I like from time to time to share some charts here I could care less for itand just wishing to see Celine enjoying and celebrating her new materials, and shouldn'tshe just be HAPPY to do that? If you got until here you have courage, congrats and God bless Celine, she loves I guess to makes everythingcomplicated where she really don't have too 1 Quote "Needed in the chaos and confusion, from the plains to City HallNeeded where the proud who walk the wire are set to fall"

Derek F. Posted December 4, 2019 at 03:23 AM Posted December 4, 2019 at 03:23 AM I've been waiting to post my thoughts on the new Courage album and era, but I would like to give my opinion... Warning: this will be a longer post to read First of all... I love this forum. I visit almost every day, even though I rarely post. I don't like the negativity that can happen, and arguments but I do love this forum, thank you to the loyal Celine fans that provide valuable posts, feedback, news, and videos! Second of all... I LOVE Celine. I've been a fan for more than 25 years. She is my favorite singer of all time. I also care deeply about Celine as a person. I've prayed for her, and her family, including Rene when he was sick with cancer. Celine has such an amazing heart. I'm so grateful to support an artist that gives to charity, loves her family, friends, God, and her fans. I think Celine is an awesome human being, and I really also treasure her voice. It is a miracle. A blessing. Celine has helped me a lot in my life with her music and voice. I've listened to the Courage album after I bought it during the first week of release, and I keep listening to it. It was a long 6 year wait as we know to finally have a new album. I was excited to finally hear it! I think it's a good album, not great, but good. There are songs I LOVE very much, like "Flying On My Own" "Lying Down" & "Courage", and there are songs I really don't care for. Mostly due to Celine's vocal delivery or tone in some songs. But, overall, the concept, the theme, and the flow of the album is amazing, including the photo's and album cover. This album also has some incredible talent, the songwriters, producers did a great job. It was so exciting and satisfying to see Celine achieve the #1 spot on the Billboard 200 for the first week of release! It was amazing to see Celine break the record for the longest span between #1 albums for a female artist in history, and to become one of the only artists ever to have a #1 album in 3 separate decades!!! When Celine achieves success, it's like we're winning with her, as her loyal fans! Because we love her, and want the best for her. However, it was really disappointing to see the news this week that Celine fell 110 spots from #1 to #111 on the Billboard 200 album chart. It's frustrating, and very upsetting. I expected a drop, but absolutely not over 100 spots. The marketing, and promotion of Courage has been awful by Sony and Columbia Records, Celine's record label. Sony and Columbia have made many mistakes since 2002-2003, but the lack of marketing, promo, and support with Courage is unacceptable. It's lack of promo is appalling. Who is behind the strategy for marketing Celine's music and booking her on TV shows and Award shows? How do they think Celine just doing CBS This Morning, Jimmy Fallon with no performance, and one other cable interview is enough to help the general public know that Celine has a new album out the first week of release? The first week sales were pretty good for today's standards, but that was mostly due to her loyal fans, and fans that bought the concert and album ticket bundle. Then Celine only does one quick one song performance during the albums second week? Of course with no promotion the album is going to drop big time! I'm happy that Celine feels empowered and strong and capable after Rene passed away, and that she wants to keep proving to Rene that she is ok, and will continue to sing and be strong for her family and fans, but as she said, Rene used to tell her for years to just worry about singing the best she can, and that he would handle the rest. I miss Rene. He did an amazing job managing Celine from 1982 until 2013, when his cancer came back. Of course it was really tough for him to manage her after that until Rene passed. Then, I think Aldo did a good job too managing Celine until he retired. Celine is smart, clever, and incredible. She is an icon. A Superstar. A legend in music. But... Celine needs a great manager. Someone that cares. Someone she can trust. She needs her label to care about her success and properly market and promote her. Not with just a few TV appearances and billboards in NY and LA the first 2 weeks of an albums release. I understand Celine isn't chasing chart success, but she is thankful for it, she did post about it last week when she learned she was #1. She doesn't need to prove herself to the industry anymore, but chart and sales success does impact her career going forward. It impacts the decisions the label makes, what is said in the media/press and how the general public perception can be at times. It makes a difference when different calculating many lists of the greatest artists in history on the music charts. It influences most music media brands, executives, tastemakers, in the music business. As I said, when Celine wins or has success, her loyal fans win too. We celebrate with her. And when Celine loses, like dropping 110 spots on the Billboard 200 in week 2, most of her fans feel really down, because we know that Celine's had an iconic, amazing career, and we don't want to see Celine making negative headlines and setting negative records. With the right promotion and marketing by her label, that should have never occurred. I sure hope that there's much more promotion in store in the next couple of months. I hope Celine hears about this awful drop on the album chart, and realizes she needs to make some changes, and do more promo for her album when she is not on tour to let the public know she has a new album out now after so many years. If Sony and Columbia records can't support Celine better, and ensure that she is getting the attention and marketing she should be, then I hope Celine moves on to a new record label as soon as possible. Oh, and I hope Celine realizes that she may be called "Queen Celine" or "The Boss", but that she should have one, full time manager that believes in her and wants to preserve the legacy and iconic career that her and Rene spent decades to build. 6 Quote

Derek F. Posted December 4, 2019 at 03:59 AM Posted December 4, 2019 at 03:59 AM Also, regardless of Courage dropping from #1 to #111 in week 2, it is NOT a flop! It debuted at #1 in America, setting a record, sold over 100,000 units week 1 in America, Celine hit #1 on the Artist 100, the first time she has achieve that feat, due to the success of Courage in week 1, and Celine also hit #1 in Canada, France, and several other countries as well, selling more than 250,000 copies it's first week. Yes, it took an awful drop on the album chart in America week 2 but with the right promotion this album can achieve more success in America and worldwide, it can easily recover with more promo which would increase sales and keep the album charting. So, nobody should call Courage a flop. Just as an example, Mariah Carey set a new record earlier this year with "All I Want For Christmas Is You", for the worst, biggest fall off of the Billboard 100 singles chart in history! Would people call that single a flop? No. So... stop calling Courage a flop because it dropped in the charts week 2. It's crazy and idiotic to say that.link: https://www.forbes.com/sites/hughmcintyre/2019/01/08/mariah-carey-sets-a-new-record-for-the-biggest-fall-off-the-singles-chart-in-history/#346b616f70ea 7 Quote

I know this past week has been depressing, but it's a great album, # 1 in the US and there are prospects for better results, especially since we know there's at least one new music video coming up. So being #1 on the foreign album chart, yes it is technically still #1, but it is not as representative as some other countries where they mix all albums together in one chart. Quote

End of drama and here are some pictures to share. Same with global deluxe copy, only folded poster, the booklet (as seen) with English and Japanese lyrics. If there's anyone who should be banned from commenting on this forum, it should be you. How dare you! We are free to express our opinions. Why are you policing other people's thoughts? How disrespectful!Maybe I need to explain the difference to some of you to what is an opinion and what is being disrespectful, cause maybe the new standard in this world has changed... An opinion is I dont like the new songs Celine recorded, I dont like the setlist on the tour, I think celine should do more promo.. If you read my post you will see that i said that I respect peoples opinions. Being disrespectful: When someone makes something with love and you get these kinds of comments: Her team and her lazy and its their fault her album bommed, Celine needs to do more promo in her off week, it's Celines own fault that her album bommed, she is not a business woman so she needs a manager, I understand that she has a family but it's her job to promote this album, She wanted to be a singer so she needs to focus on that and not all the fashion and other things... So I'm not the one being disrespectful, I agree I might have been angry yesterday seeing all these so called fans and hypocritical people in here sometimes make these type of statements... Made me angry but I am here to defend her as a human being which none of us have the right to judge nor being disrespectful towards... If you don't like people telling you how you live your life dont do it to others.. And if you cant see the disrespect in these sayings than seek a professional and let them explain... The funny thing is everybody is making statements which they know nothing of, no music industry veterans in here, no one from her team that is explaining their choices, or why certain things were chosen or done. It's just speculation from some fans that have had an imagination of how this album release and tour will go and how they wanted everything to be without considering what Celine would like to do and then when it doesnt go their way they turn on her. not fair. As it was stated go check back all their comments in this thread up until a few weeks ago how different some of them were sounding... So in other words I respect everyone as long as you respect Celine. If you dont I will show you the same kindness. 2 Quote
