"Courage" album - Official Topic

Now it's official. The album is out of the 100.

 

Courage fell 110 spots to No. 111 on the Billboard 200. 😭😭😭

 

Guess we can now say Courage "is light years awaaaaay" from where it was last week. Hahaha...

 

Well all that matters to me is she hit No. 1. Afterall, before you can achieve the "biggest drop" from the No. 1, you have to have been No. 1 in the first place, right? Haha

its Sonys and Celines fault. Nobody else can be blamed for that. They should have done at least an equal amount of promo after the release as they did for anticpation and momentum building before the release. Edited December 3, 2019 at 05:26 PM by ryba

This is the first time i felt embarrassed of celine's achievement. I still like her, but i prefer she tried her best and still achieve 111 rather than not trying hard enough

I don't care about the charts at all or her music being popular, but I wish she cared about her work (her musical work, which is her actual job, not fashion or any other antics) and cared about singing the songs, sharing the album with the world, promoting it by singing it on tour even if not doing non-essential promo... I love plenty of music that isn't particularly popular or hits, but it's hard to love music that even the artist herself is so indifferent to hearing or performing.

 

Each album era with a tour is more and more phoned in, like she could just have recorded any random selection of songs presented to her and pushed out for cash, but it's going to make it more and more difficult for her to get good songs in the future the more they're never heard, promoted, and get zero royalties for the songwriters. It feels especially hollow because her total disinterest in even talking about or performing anything makes it seem like she has zero conviction in the material, which makes it a lot more difficult to take seriously even lyrically. Celine has a great voice, but there are a lot more artists out there with good voices who all struggle to get halfway decent material if they can't write themselves. I'll be surprised if Sony funds any more albums after this. She can just do the greatest hits tour forever but be honest about the tour marketing.

It isn't a one way street. She can always express interest in talking about her music or steering the conversation in the direction she wishes if she wished to do so, but that clearly isn't her focus. Even when people are asked about things that isn't what they want to talk about, they can always find a way to bring the conversation back to or insert a plug about her latest songs or music. She's not a child being interrogated who doesn't know how to talk about anything except what is asked directly. Let's give her more credit than to pretend everything is just the fault of the interviewers.

Nothing to do with it. It has to do with being a veteran act with no streaming support. Because she sold more physical albums than some of the artists in the Top 10 - minus the streaming. So if you look at the sales chart, the drop isn't that major. Look at the UK, France and Canada. She is still holding fairly well there without any promo either.

When the album leaked/dropped most of the members on here were singing her praises, saying how proud they were of her as fans and that she’s done so well orchestrating everything and then bam 💥 the album drops dramatically in the US, as we knew it would, only getting to number one by default because of the tour bundle, and suddenly she’s a disgrace and hasn’t a clue what she’s doing, doesn’t care about her career, blah, blah, bored!! In fact some of the comments I’ve read, from so called fans, over the past couple of days have been pretty despicable really.

 

At the end of the day she’s still giving us new music, albeit less often, and she’s still touring. If anyone had told me five years ago that Celine would still be continuing on in this manner without Rene by her side, I’d have taken that in a heartbeat so I think we need to just accept what she gives us instead of always wanting more from her and understand that her career is no longer her number 1 priority. She still does it because she loves it and doesn’t give a s*** about charts and chasing records anymore.

This is the worse performing album of the past twenty years for celine. She is the boss. She is responsible. You can make excuses all day long and attack people who point this out. Falling over one hundred spots and selling a few thousand is dreadful. Yes she may not stream. Well she needs to get out and sing. This failure might be a total wake up call for her. For the first time an album has crashed.

The problem is the streaming for sure but I find it hard to believe that there is almost no streaming compared to other artists! Wow!

 

Another thing I wanted to say... before the album was released, Céline didnt want to talk about it like if she didn't want to reveal anything or as if she wanted to keep a surprise secret... but now that its out, what was it that she wanted to hide? Lol

I love this album! Every day I have a different song in my mind ! Sometimes I even surprise myself humming a song I thought I didnt really like... Like today its Look At Us Now!

Part of it think, some of the songs were recorded so long ago, she doesn’t remember them. Not the songs per se, but how they came along and what she felt when she heard them for the first time. Especially when there are so many, including the unreleased ones. Maybe the media people should be more aggressive and ask more probing questions. Like Gayle King pointed out “Say Yes” was her favorite

When interviewers asked her about Courage (song) she talked about René. And never mentions the name Moccio. Why can't she talk about her husband AND the music it inspired?

It's not the interviewer's fault: it's hers.

 

Artists usually talk about their art.

 

She raved about how she created this show on her own and that she was so proud of it, but didn't really highlight the fact that she also created an album on her own.

 

It's baffling.

Or not: it shows what her priorities are.

Is it just because she wants to perform, or is it for the money? 'Cause she did embarked in this tour right after Vegas.

What was the rush? To release an album you don't want to promote but needed a tour bundle to make a splash in the charts? To benefit from the Xmas period? But she doesn't care for Charts.

So...

 

I love the album very much, I'm happy with it and I can save a few bucks for vacations instead of putting my money in this tour.

 

But I want to hear her music and her talking about it. I mean, isn't it what you'd expect from any artist?

Honestly I think Celine and Sony are not promoting because there is no point. Physical sales are dead in USA. Celine is 21 this week in Top Album Sales Chart, still in the main chart she is 111. Even if she had promoted she wouldn’t be even top 50. How charts are built today is unfair for veteran artists but we just need to accept reality. And don’t listen to the troll, as already said in one week Celine has outsold more of her peers, including artists like Christina Aguilera or Britney Spears, 10 years younger than her. If they want to promote they should focus on UK, France and Canada where people still buy records.

Celine is greatly talented, but there is not a business woman in any fiber of her being. That's partially Rene's fault. But he sure was successful. We were lucky for a time when she was truly on top. Spoiled with interviews, DVDs, videos...everything.

 

Now we have a new album that we've waited nearly a decade for and 2 (maybe 3) new music videos. We've done about as good as we can do.

I know you’re an old af boomer and so probably haven’t listened to top 40 radio in 20 years, but these sales/streaming figures are the reality for practically all veteran acts now (regardless of promo gaffes or lack of singing songs from the album). Celine doesn’t get to be the supreme exception to that

I think we all know that she has ALWAYS loved to perform and she has always said so. And she has enough money not to be touring ever again.

So she does it to keep busy and have fun (which is more evident than ever before).

Why after Vegas? Because she runs a business with staff, band, etc. If she doesn't tour, these people will go somewhere else. That's probably why she doesn't wait too long between projects.

 

And Sony decides the date they release the album, not Celine. THEY think November is still a good month to benefit from the Xmas period, but it's not really the case anymore. Sony cares about charts, Celine doesn't.
