I am experiencing something with Courage that I never experienced before... I got into the music of Celine back in 2005 - I used to love songs from LTAL and ANDHC - but it was then, in 2005, that I became a fan. I immersed myself into her music: I would consume her songs non-stop, I would look for more, I would buy her albums, I would search info about them on Wikipedia, and once I knew her English catalog by heart, I moved on to explore her French music. And she became an even greater artist in my eyes!

 

In terms of me being a fan, Taking Chances was the first major release of Celine. I remember hating the album cover - still do - and several songs felt different to her previous recordings. I did not quite enjoy this record - only certain songs in it. I also remember checking the charts back in 2007 and 2008 and I was feeling somewhat sad that she was under-performing. Or at least this is how I felt. Disappointed. Pretty much the same happened with LMBTL. I disliked the album cover - still do - and only liked few songs that I listened for few months after the release. I barely listen to them now. Much like TC, I felt LMBTL was a mixed bag, crafted to appeal to a wide audience, but losing its artistic direction and coherence because of that. I have to say though that things were very different for me when it came to her French releases. Sans Attendre was an album I loved and years later she released Encore Un Soir which I loved even more. In the meantime, I discovered D'elles that despite certain flaws in terms of interpretation and production, still has a place in my heart.

 

Irrespective of her solid French records, I was still feeling that her English albums were lacking though. So I had higher expectations from Celine. I wanted her to deliver an English album that I would very much be proud of. So now with Courage, I am experiencing for the first time this happiness of being a Celine fan and consuming brand new material from her that I absolutely LOVE! I am embracing songs that were brought to life now! In the present moment! It is as if I am witnessing something big for her career. Dionaissance? For sure! She finally did it for me, guys! She delivered a modern album filled with meaningful songs! She stepped out of her comfort zone, which by definition means progress. This is not album made to appeal to an audience as broad as possible, it is an album crafted so that Celine re-invents herself and delivers the messages she wanted to deliver. IMO, Courage is a career milestone.

 

On a side note, my Top 5 songs at the moment are: Perfect Goodbye, Nobody's Watching, Change My Mind, Say Yes, Falling In Love Again. I am a happy fan!

With every album I usually had a favorite right away and the ones I instantly used the skip button for.

 

On “Taking Chances” and “Loved Me Back To Life” albums it seemed like I skipped the majority lol.

 

On the FIY album I usually skipped RDMH.

on LTAL I skipped “ I Hate You then I love you”

I skipped “At Last” on ANDHC.

 

I could keep going.. Lol; But point being is usually I can tell which songs are my favorite by first couple listens and which songs and I really don’t like; and with this album I don’t know.... every day my favorite songs change.So far tho “Lovers Never Die” is definitely my least favorite but I don’t hate or skip any of them. This is definitely the most artistic album arguably ever from Celine’s English career.

I think she is referring to FOMO, Lying Down, Courage and Imperfections. I am waiting for the 27th when they are releasing the japanese edition, feels like an eternity LOL

I have caved in and listened to Lovers Never Die and FREAKING LOVE IT! Wow! If this is one of the worst on the album I can't imagine the best! It's definitely a little edgier for her, I love her style of singing, it's less enunciated for sure but I'm loving it!

 

I don't get Love is All We Need AT ALL. That's super misleading, this song is much more melodic, I can't stress how offensive that is to Lovers Never Die comparing the two. Opinion is fine, I just don't remotely see any similarity.

Yea I understand, I felt really bad doing it but i just thought that I will be downloading from itunes uk on release day, buying a uk physical copy and also purchasing the japanese version anyway...I don't have spotify so it's not like I would be streaming it multiple times anyway

For my part I'll be buying multiple copies for my mother, grandmother and myself. And of course I'll be streaming it all day on Spotify. I also expect them to release the Vinyl and put it on my Christmas list. Let's hope Christmas season will help maintain sales for a few weeks.

So far I've listened the album only one time, I don't count the "first" time I've heard it because

it was a mistake listening to the album while my mind wasn't really ready for it and was bothered

with other things so I couldn't really enjoy it.

 

I admire you guys that can wait just one more week:)

 

And it's actually great that I've heard it only once so far, so will wait to the 15 lol

and will stream it a lot, already ordered it from Amazon, and now looking where I can order

the Japanese edition, never had a luck with ordering those editions from abroad.

 

How funny it will be if "Soul" turns out to be PMLALS, but I highly doubt it and in this stage

oddly enough I don't "miss" those bombastic soaring ballads. The setlist for this tour must say goodbye

to the hit songs, and give them a good rest! and let those lovely new songs just shine.

 

How I wish with this album, Celine once again will be heard all the time in the radio over here

(like it was during the AND area, not counting MHWGO area) and to see her name on the charts here will be lovely.

To me the weakest song is How Did You Get Here. It has a hook and I can see why someone would like it, but I find it so over-produced and bombastic. It is smartly placed after I Will Be Stronger that is among the most soulful songs of the album, but I still cannot understand how it made it to the Standard edition and the masterpiece that is Boundaries did not.

 

Needless to say that if every song on the album sounded like HDYGH we would not be talking about a modern album. Vintage at best...!

What!! I love HDYGH! But it's ok that you're not feeling it. My weakest is I Will Be Stronger, I've started skipping that one. Yes why on earth is Boundaries not on the standard?????

Make sure if you buy the Japanese version it is the Blu-spec CD2 one! Do not get the import one on accident Very curious how Soul sounds. I also think Perfect Goodbye is very Lana. It's a little gem. Am very curious to see whether the Blu-spec version will be any different than the regular CD version in terms of sound quality.

I think it's that haunting dreamy sound that they went for.. it's a good song! I do feel like a lot of the songs on Courage feel more like other artists' to a degree but it's good that she is trying out all these sounds.

 

Blu-spec probably won't be too big of a difference but it's really subtle even if you have really good equipment.

 

Oh, did anyone post the back cover here? I love the art for this album so much! Hope the image is not too big!

Blu-spec probably won't be too big of a difference but it's really subtle even if you have really good equipment.

 

I think you can definitely hear that she's experimented with different sounds (LP, Sam Smith, Sia) - it's a good step for her, even though I feel she sang the Sia songs by emulating Sia's style here and there. I'm excited to hear the bonus tracks in Blu-Spec quality. I will try to resist listening to snippets of Soul until the CD is in my hands lol

Probably a Courage vol.2 maybe, lol. Has she ever had such a full sized album before? 21 tracks in all with the Japanese release... also, I think she said that basically every song they had sent to her as demos she was like "this is so good I want to sing it", right?

Yup, my number 1 on the album! I dont hate any as all tracks are freaking good, but this one stands out. 😍 Regarding her pronunciation/enunciation, i'm not at all bothered. I believe that every artist has a poetic license to interpret their songs in the way they see it best 😉
