"Courage" album - Official Topic

In the imperfections YouTube comments someone suggested playing at 1.25 speed. There really is something to this, i love it. Obviously it doesn't work for the whole thing but it definitely adds something to it, and says even more how this should be a single. In my humble opinion.

Interesting to see that “Lying Down” doing a little bit better than “imperfections” I think tho both good, that imperfections is better.

Me too... I thought "Imperfections" is modern and fits the current market most out of those three songs

From the 3 songs for me imperfections really is the most interesting.

I mean Courage and Lying down are not that new in celine s universe. only Imperfection brings this touch of fresh air and relax/current sound that lacks in celine s repertoire.

I wish this song would be the one chosen to be a bit more promoted from the 3.

So just listened to LD and C.

Lying Down did start promising. Nice vocals. Horrible enunciation though 😂, don't think it's ever been this sloppy - beside It's a Man's World, though. Banal and basic lyrics. Did nothing for me in the end. Just a TC-album filler to me and I feel now enough with Sia... if LMBTL was a left over - then what is this?!?!

Courage also started very strongly. Great indeed. First line I was "oh this is good!", second line "God this is good!". When the refrain came it didn't come off as strong (maybe coz we already have heard it). The song is nice but never really lifts for me (altough I love orchestra etc). The best part is the way she sings the verses. The way she "runs" throuh then is completely new for her, sounds modern and gets me excited. Anything new is welcome! But when it ends I get "is this it? That was it??". Lacked "oumf" as much as LD, but I still prefere C over LD. C is a nice closer or opener for the album, but they placed it on track nr 5 for some reason.....

Gonna listen to C again then head off for Imperfections! Soo exciting!!!! 😀

I have to agree that some of the pronunciation in Lying Down is a bit dodgy. First 6 listens and I still couldn’t understand some words. I’m still in love with them all, I can’t wait to hear a remix of Imperfections! Courage is breaking my heart. The magic is in that she doesn’t do too much, every breath perfectly place...no vocal gymnastics...just her soul! I think that is what has always separated her Eng & Fr records apart. This is beautiful work.

courage for me is similar to "say something" !

and some part of lying down sounds like Skylar Grey!

imperfections is a fesh air!

all the 3 songs seem top produced, and will be very strong in market!

I personally feel the last chorus with the opening and hitting a bunch of C5 belts continually IS oomph. Not every ballad needs to be vocal gymnastic filled, the gorgeous lyrics and incredible music along with her more soft and restrained vocals make it perfect

Courage grows more and more. It has nice lyrics, less banal than LD and the wonderful way she sings the verses ends some phrases so nice and a softly with such soulful yet modern manner - i.e. "...in conversations that will never end". Wish more songs on the album has this "modern" but classy approach.

"It's not eeeeasy.." almost breaks my heart. This song truly resonates with her. Her Réné homage of the album.

(There are some enunciation mess in here too sadly. Which is so wierd coz neither LD or C sounds otherwise "rushed" vocally.)

I think Imperfections is fine, but it's nothing overly special. It's nice on first listen, but then it gets old very quickly. I like the beginning and verses more than i like the chorus. It's too simple and overly repetitive with nothing to give it that edge. It's a very "right now" type of song with a super quick expiration date. It won't age well I think. Edited by Taking Chances

Dont think I can even put them in order, I adore them all completely and utterly

Same. Very different, yet there is something coherent. Great production job.

And interestingly, by the songs' comments, it seems that Sony/TC's strategy of releasing those 3 songs is a very good job: pleasing the different tastes of Céline's fans. Everybody has its preferred song. ^_^

I'd like the deluxe edition to have a different picture from the standard edition... Is that much to ask? With those many pictures they surely have, it would be nice to have 2 different covers for this album for a change ^_^

I hadn't even realized that it doesn't yet. I completely agree. Why are they the same? They should have at least placed the text differently or used a different angle. Something to change it up. Preferably a different photo, but the exact same?

I love the photo, but if there's two versions, we need two different covers!

I picture Justin Bieber dancing around her every time I play the song. LOL Don't get me wrong...I really like the song...but it's hard to not see him in my brain doing some special dance moves by her side. :giggle:

I'm gonna listen to them in a bit.

I think this is the first time they actually do things how they need to be done.

Now I hope they won't go on holiday in November when it's released haha.

If someone can help me, it's the first time they had this big media coverage right?

A few radio interviews etc that quite new I guess.

Does that mean that maybe this time radio is gonna play her?

I do think that this time it will be her last big anticipated English album ever.

With the young and hip producers, big media coverage etc.

Sounds like indeed that Sony puts some effort and that the album is presented as a big comeback.

But only time will tell about the young and hip producers.

Somehow, by the answers she gave to the Montreal Gazette guy (Brendan Kelly?), it seemed that somehow this time they played "safe" but she would like daring new stuff ^_^

Can we stop using the word “hip”. Using it reminds me that we as a fan base are getting old.

Imperfections has a beautiful instrumental part at the end. Out of the tree new songs for me this is the part which gets me the most.

Good to see that everyone has a favorite song. That makes the forum discussions more interesting.

If you were preaching that for me there's no need. I am not a Balladian in demand of 8 money notes in each song. I really love songs such as ABM, IS and IWYTNM and I also love SBYS, IHT and DKL.

So the vocal acrobats wasn't what I missed in C. Just an overall "lifting" to the song and it ended without me feeling the song was complete. But I also had the EXACT same complaint about Ashes when I first heard it. I guess it's just a modern dramaturgy of a ballad that I just don't get. Both Ashes and Courage leaves you "wanting for more" so you hit repeat, maybe that's a good thing in the end.

Courage is a total quality treasure

Imperfections is modern and showcases Céline in her modern voice beautifully.

Lying Down is banal. Just répétitive and whiney.

So two of three is quite good.

omg it's really hard to say which song is better out of the three. I loooove them all :w00t:

I'm so ecxited for the tour and the album

at first my order was after the first listen:

lying down

courage

imperfections

but that changes everytime. I think they are all on the same level, they are all amazing songs and each one can stand alone and shines :)
