"Courage" album - Official Topic

"Imperfections" is a silly song. There's nothing major about it, except the fact that it sounds like a teen music and, for that, can do well in radios.

I'll probably hear it anyway (I don't mind being silly sometimes). But Lying Down and Courage are, by far, better.

So far, so good!

I have to say the song Courage is everything Recovering was supposed to be, absolutely gorgeous for me and my favorite so far

Imperfections is very very catchy and radio friendly but also tbh can be very boring after several listens, it's not a song that can have a lasting impact

I still don't know what to think of Lying down I listened to it 100 times maybe half of them I loved it and other half I hated it, very weird song, but also at the same time very edgy

please listen, I wrote This for Celine

I have had the time of my life following this woman! Much love.

Well, probably not a very popular oppinion here, but I love Lying down the most!

It's true it's a bit weird and confusing. But that peculiar uncanny feeling gives the song some depth.

I love when her voice craks down at the end of lines, she does that often now, a bit too much, but I like it. She does it in Courage too.

This line: "I found me, I found faith, I found trust"... :w00t:

Gets me everytime!

BTW, the bridge sounds like she was imitating a demo version recorded by Sia. Specially on the "found" and the way she always swallow the "I" in "Cant you see I won't take this". Just like how she sings Loved me back to life.

That could explain her enunciation :P

She always tend to sound like the recording artist of the original/demo song. It's funny.

Besides I seem to hear Sia on background vocals... yes, I hear/see Sia everywhere!

:sofunny:

FOMO

Fun one, I like both the 'live' and Studio versions for their own arrangements - good job

Though a bit plain, banal, now and not very lasting in terms of time. I listened it a bunch when it came out, but almost never today.

LD will stick longer with me.

Imperfections is not my cup of tea. Too repetitive, to low key in rythm and voice (though I love when she sings her voice low).

A very 2019 song I guess, so basically not for me; it's the most radio friendly track it seems, and I rarely like what's on the radio. So... :giggle:

It's kinda catchy when you hear it but when the song is over, I can't remember the melody. So... (bis).

Yet I can see the appeal, it's a nice one. But a nice little one imo. I'm too old for this s***. :-D

(So old it could explain LD being my favorite lol).

Courage... BO-RING!

I positively not like that song. I must admit her phrasing touches me and is beautiful. But that's it.

Sounds too much like a Miracle rip-off, vocaly and rythmically. I prefer Recovering.

Now off to listening LD for the hundredth time.

Actually, I listened to the 1.25 speed rate of Imperfections, and it's really enticing. It reminds me of Michael Jackson. Genius!

I won't adopt this track for all that.

(and thx, I didn't now about this option on YT).

Then I gave it a try for the other two. Courage is shorter... so that's an improvment. :hmm:

It ruins LD. So I'm just gonna keep repeating the song at its normal speed.

COURAGE - the first one I heard in bed this morning. I just rolled over and started sobbing. This one has potential to “grab” fans, old and new. It’s quintessential Céline, and I think it could be this year’s “Hello” or “Shallow”.

IMPERFECTIONS - This is everything “Incredible” was supposed to be. Yes, it’s very au courant, répétitive, and simple, but she needs some mellow moments (in the show, and album) to catch her breath and give our ears a break. And best of all, to me, nothing about it is cringe (yes, I’m looking at you THLAL/Rain, Tax/etc.). I sent all 3 songs to my coworker (a fan of Céline’s older music and a Top 40 addict) to gauge the common woman’s reaction: she could not stop listening to this one! The other 2, she said, were “forgettable”.

LYING DOWN - it’s been a roller coaster for me... didn’t care much for it at first, but the melody and production have grown on me tremendously in just a few hours. The vocals are FIRE, especially the slide on the word “trust”. The instruments are really familiar, yet modern. But the lyrics are lacking something... the words just don’t ring true as FOMO, Courage, and Imperfections - or other hits like ANDHC and EUS. The dramatic sing-acting is a major turnoff for many critics, and I have to admit it’s distracting for me as well. Not to mention the “swallowing” of syllables (as JulienMcbeal so accurately describes it) makes it sound like she doesn’t know English (whereas the other two tracks hide that fact :giggle:). Not my fave, but I wouldn’t hate it as a single either.

Now that I’ve heard 4 out of 20 tracks, I have to admit that I’m wondering why they left out “Ashes”? Especially if she’s talking about releasing a second album sooner than later, in which case we’ll get to hear many of the unreleased recordings. I know many people are tired of it, but imo it fits perfectly with the albums theme, both visually and sonically.

I listened to all 3 on my ride to university and my very first impression was how somber the songs are in a way I don't think or remember hearing from Celine's English music. Courage, specifically, is so emotional because you know she's thinking of Rene. My mom was with me and the first thing she said was that they reminded her of Celine's French music (speciically Lying Down and Courage).

Listening to them a second (and third and fourth time) now I'm starting to really feel them. Lying Down resonates the most with me because my mom for years took crap from her husband and refused to see that he was emotionally abusive.

"I gave you my heart, you took the key But now I paid my debt It's time I left

And I don't need someone who makes me feel so bad "

That line hits close to home.

"I found faith, I found trust"

Faiiiith, truuuust, Love...just kidding.

Just from these 3 songs, plus FOMO, the album feels so coherent. It's an album that promotes empowerment and I love that. I really like all three songs but Courage and Lying Down are the best imo.

This Time would fit in perfectly on this tour.

Also, that picture of Celine is beautiful. From the small thumbnail I thought she was coming out of a river but it's actually flames (which almost form wings behind her). Can't wait for the music video and to hear these live.

"Give it up, give it up, I ain't gonna save you" - Imperfections is Save Your Soul's sister song. I like it a lot, it's lighter that the other 2. I could hear this on the radio (won't happen I know).

I really wanna love Lying Down more, but I feel the production could've been more aggressive and modern. This seems kinda on a half way of what a real Sia songs would sound like.

Imperfections is by far superior to me, but if these three songs are suppose to be the best on the album I must say it doesn't sound like we are going to get her best work with this one.

Of course we are all excited and stuff but aren't we every time?

Sony Music Portugal made a post about Courage. It only got 56 likes.

Can I ask for the fans here to put a like there.

Sony Music Portugal rarely promote Celine now. They need to know that she has many fans.

Thanks. ;)

97 likes. Better! ;)

I hope we'll get Celine promoted here. After the 2 shows cancelled in Lisbon in 1999, the Courage Tour needs to stop in Portugal also.

This album will be huge!

So people getting the CD with the purchase of a concert ticket are getting the regular or deluxe? If the deluxe has 20 songs I hope the regular doesn't have far fewer songs, maybe 5 less at most.

I wouldn't worry about the quality of this album. They released these 3 songs but it doesn't mean they are the best ones. I think this one will be more cohesive. But I just hope they haven't tried too hard, production is what makes a song current, a well produced ballad can be as current as an uptempo. But so far this is looking promising.

Loving all three songs! maybe LD the most, as for now.

And looking forward to hear Play me like a love song, I'm glad someone asked Celine about it, less chances it will end up in the same place as EUS video :innocent:

Tried it too. It works on imperfections really well. I did not mind doing it to the other 2 songs

I love Lying Down, it is very well produced. Imperfections sounds modern and I like the lyrics a lot. Courage disappointed me. Celine sounds nasal and the song itself is a bit boring.

Yesterday I hesitated between lying down and imperfection wich one would be better for single, today I think Lying down is better, Imperfections is more radio friendly but I miss hit effect in it.
