True! Her live performances of the song are so emotional! I didn't care much for the song until I heard and saw it live in concert during last Summer's tour. Here in The Netherlands, you could hear a pin drop! It was like the whole audience was holding its breath! The song got a huge reaction from the audience and Céline was visually moved. :wub2:

It was the same in Berlin when I saw her live...

I wish Céline records an album full of Recovering just to annoy you.

Why don't you try to make your tastes by yourself and not based on what people like and charts?

If radio played great songs that would be a big news for me ... sorry but you don't convince anybody with your reasons.

Just look at the last posts of "Unison" and "Celine Dion" eras topics from 2 days ago...

1- she won't!!! Fortunately, otherwise she'd have her most flopped album (and I'd love it because she'd realize how bad she was at this choice)

2- it's not about my taste, it's about KNOWING what kind of songs/sonority GP wants to hear

3- Céline isn't required to release another album that sounds like the other 182728 she released, this is NOT what real artists do

The fact that some people would love to see her have a "flopped album" baffles me. Let the woman sing what she wants to sing.

that's about WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT, SHE WANTS to sing what some members on here don't want her to sing, they don't want celine to sound "current" because according to them this is not Céline, when Céline HERSELF knows more than any other what she really is

Celine, herself, wanted to record Recovering because it has meaning for her so  .

So it still doesn't mean she wanted to work on it once it was not promoted, it just had to be recorded and that's it

The other artists you mentioned are in the prime of their career though. Celine is at a different stage in hers.

Just because Céline moved on another stage in her career (voluntarily may I add), that doesn't mean she has to stick to the minimum effort to deffend each new album she releases, as she's been doing since 2003 :innocent:

Do you even understand what Recovering is about? It wasn't a song designed to be a big success it was a song dedicated to the love of her life who had only died a few months earlier.

Not sure she moved voluntarily to a new stage in her career. That was kind of enforced on her by Rene's illness and death.

I wasn't referring to her career after René passed away, precisely :) I mean she moved on to another chapter of her career voluntarily in 2003 when she moved to Vegas and stablished there, and since then, her international career has been kind of "isolated" and encapsulated with her Vegas shows, even if in 2003 her international career was at its peak, enjoying great success and recognition for her music everywhere.

Better or worse stage? I think it's different. But she voluntarily changed paths and to some certain extent, she herself stopped her rise in 2003.

And what stage of her career is that? A bad one? LMBTL was the third best selling album by a female artist released in 2013 if I'm not wrong (after Pink and Ellie Goulding). Last year she had the top best selling French album of the year, selling almost the same as English speaking so called current artists like Ariana Grande or Sia, and selling three times more than latest Britney Spears album that was released same week. In 2017 she is the top female act of the year grossing more than $105M and she is making every list as one of the top celebrities of the year. I just hope this "stage" lasts for many years :)

Beyoncé's self titled, Prism and others sold a way more than lmbtl, and Encore Un Soir did great, but sia's new album sold more than just 1m, It sold 2m, Ariana's 1,8m

I want her to make a great album, hits or not it doesn't matter anymore. She's a legend, she will still exists in years to come as long as she wanted to. Celine is not a new artist whose career depend on hits or flop.

Exactly my thoughts! All these hit/flop talks are so tiring, I couldn't care less about selling numbers as they don't mean quality at all.

Because the numbers determine Celine's future as a recording artist. Fans say they couldn't care less whether the album flop or not but Sony does. Sony will not invest on Celine if she will keep on releasing flop after flop album.

Poor sales = Longer gap on releasing albums.

Sony won't say "It's okay Celine's album flopped as long as her fans are happy. What's important is she released a quality album." Sony doesn't give a sh*t if fans are happy or not. All they care about is sales. This is nothing else but business for them. If they can no longer get their projected profit from Celine's album, they would rather invest to artist who can like Adele and Beyonce.

The " Who cares about the sales or the chart" is only acceptable in an ideal world. Reality is sales determines if they will invest more to an artist to have another album.

So? Then Céline will finally leave Sony.

Céline is and always will be Sony's milk cow, whether her album will be a hit or a flop... They won't get red of her that easily...

Her rise was in the 90s. Her peak was 1996-1999. She didn't stop her rise in 2003. She was already an established and successful artist by then.

Sales are relative to the times. Selling like Adele, Beyoncé and Justin Timberlake are very rare successes these days. SONY is not going to drop Celine.

Practically every music fan watches the Grammys and if she gives a good performance like she has done at the past few BBA shows, I think people will be on the lookout for the album. Also (and I know I'll catch flack for this) she NEEDS some star power on this project. For an artist like Celine who's at this stage in her career, having relevant artists featured on the album would be a great help to her I think. I'm still hoping for a Drake collaboration because not only would that get people's attention but I think they would have great chemistry on a song.

You are right I looked at Official Charts and the list was based on UK sales only. Encore Un Soir has not sold just 1m, 1,3 as reported by Sony. Anyway, none of them will ever match her sales so my point was that after more than 30 years her career is healthier as ever, so some right decisions might have been made during these years.

Celine's peak in 2003? :dash:

Can I just say, I bloody love Recovering. Absolute highlight on tour- and if it's included in any future shows, continued in LV, and included on the next album I'll be happy.

I agree 100% I think Recovering is a beautiful song and a great single!!!!!!

Her rise was in the 90s. Her peak was 1996-1999. She didn't stop her rise in 2003. She was already an established and successful artist by then.

With the singles she released in 1999 and also in 2002, Céline reached to a new generation of public that she hadn't met before. She continued that new found public in 2003 with the dance single IDAN. But then she stopped that progression, all of a sudden.

Her peak in the 90s wasn't but that of a singer that was greatly popular because of one main genre, ballads, and by 1999 she was associated with a massive single, MHWGO, which occupied everything. But in 2002 and 2003 she showed she could sing more than ballads, and that she could reach a broader audience composed of more than adults and people in their mid 50s. She got a new public of young audiences with those 2002/2003 singles. So her peak didn't finish in the late 90s I'm afraid.

Her fanbase was still growing even more in 2002/2003, and the attention from pop radios was even bigger than in late 90s, where everything was either BYLM or MHWGO. But she offered something new and fresh and both radios and public liked it, and a lot. Her peak was extended and renewed for those years, but it all stopped in 2003, sadly.

If sales are that important for Sony than they should lose the attitude of "celine sells herself" and put some effort into her releases!!

Even for EUS they didnt ship out enough albums to certain countries but it sold way beyond they expected.

It goes both ways, she needs to deliver a good album, and Sony needs to put some effort in the promotion of it.

Still remember the picture with that DVD "Les coulisses" of Encore un soir, and that it inexplicably wasn't included in the deluxe edition in the end?

If Sony cared about Céline and more importantly, her fans, they would have released that bonus material for us.

It makes you wonder if they did it to get in the preorders...
