Peppercorn1991 Posted November 6, 2013 at 11:50 PM Posted November 6, 2013 at 11:50 PM All I'm going to say is she could be Avril.... And if the sales of qvc and itunes are not included in that projection then it may not be so bad Hoping my county now makes this happen! Kev x 1 Quote
LuisMa Posted November 6, 2013 at 11:51 PM Posted November 6, 2013 at 11:51 PM (edited) Calm down, people. The album was just pressed! The woman can still sell out stadiums, there's nothing wrong with the artists known as Celine Dion.Sans attendre was a modern marvel in terms of sales, but her French career attracts a different sort of audience than her English recordings. If she was doing standards and ballads instead of trying to appeal to Adele and Neyo fans she might find more success. The album was just pressed as some people. But I agree. What artist after 35 years of career at such a young age still can accomplish what she has done? Sure, I'd love her to have an album out every single year, but she never stopped, and that's the most important thing. I also hope she sells a bit more, but it's better to have her album a steady seller like SA rather than one that lingers in the bottom 100 positions for many weeks or just completely disappear! That means that without the QVC #'s she's on par with Cher Also LMAO @ whoever thinks it's all Sony's fault that she stopped selling 20 million copies an album in 2013. I don't agree with a lot of their decisions, but what delusional world do you live in where an artist maintains that kind of success 30 years into their career? Quote

Popular Post mebe Posted November 6, 2013 at 11:59 PM Popular Post Posted November 6, 2013 at 11:59 PM Anyway, why talking about a flop when she's been #1 in 31 countries, top 5 in 66 countries and top 10 in 86 countries!!!!! She still beats most of the current artists with this performance on worldwide charts. That's what is important and longevity of course...so let's see how she does over the next couple of months! She is the #6 artist overall on iTunes worldwide!!! Celine just proved us that she is still relevant in the music industry!!!Congratulations Celine!!! 9 Quote

It ended up selling 476k the first week Edited November 7, 2013 at 12:16 AM by Your_Su_Phu 1 Quote

They have big potential, but because of piracy and other reasons, they're actually pretty small music markets. Very few people in China for example buy real albums, it's mostly bootlegs. It's the case in a lot of developing Asia. Edited November 7, 2013 at 12:32 AM by Your_Su_Phu Quote

wjd Posted November 7, 2013 at 12:34 AM Posted November 7, 2013 at 12:34 AM A platinum album for western artists is something silly like 10 or 20,000 copies [i don't have the figures offhand] - tiny markets with MASSIVE potential, as Your_Su_Phu said. But its not like QVC are ordering them themselves in real-time - they will have an allocation from Sony, built into Sony's initial shipment. So for e.g. QVC might have ordered 25,000 copies of the album, but only sold 13,000 on that day. HDD have industry sources that we don't, I would love it if QVC's figures aren't built into HDD's estimation! dj4celine Posted November 7, 2013 at 12:38 AM Posted November 7, 2013 at 12:38 AM (edited) I don't know if I should laugh or cry or just be nonchalant regarding the HDD predictions. But it sure is abysmal to say the least. India China Brazil and Russia are pretty big markets too....love incredible to be part of the football world cup in 2014!!Yes, but only when it comes to their domestic artists and not international artists, especially India and China where more than 80% of the music sales are for domestic artists.Personally, I can say that in India, Universal Music has more muscle than Sony and it's no surprise that Eminem has been #1 on iTunes India for hours whereas Celine went only to #2 there for a couple of hours and has dropped below #10 thereafter. When I asked the people I know at Sony India, their response was another disappointment when they wrote back to me saying they sent less than 5000 copies to the retailers cos they have very low expectations for this album as it got a lukewarm response worldwide, especially the US, whose market is very much reflected. So there you go - US may not be the centre of the universe but when it comes to the music market, like someone above me pointed out, the US and UK matter a lot and is reflected in International sales a lot. For example, the Platinum and Gold certifications for domestic artists are 200k and 100k while for International artists, they are just 6000 and 4000 copies respectively. But we have to factor in the fact that International music costs sometimes double of the domestic music there. Edited November 7, 2013 at 12:41 AM by dj4celine Quote

yoyoma Posted November 7, 2013 at 12:44 AM Posted November 7, 2013 at 12:44 AM First of all, Sony is stupid enough to put the banner only starting the day of the release. Eminem and Gaga already had them few weeks before.Putting a banner put the message out there and people would pre-order and will help the debut sales higher 2 Quote "Take the time to make the time to make each moment count" - Unfinished Songshttps://youtu.be/sh8iyY-X3UQ
