Definitely “Us” great power ballad with long high notes

 

Her pitch ( or whatever uts called lol) is super high throughout the song and i love that. It showcases her vocals abilities

I like this album but it's not my faviouate at all.... it just never clicked with me like her other albums...

 

I think it's because I grew up with FIY and then skipped to ANDHC/OH then started from Unison though to LTAL... I prefer her French albums to LTAL. It's weird because I like most songs individually on the album!

 

Well my best memory of this album is.... I played it for the first Valentine's Day with my BF seven years ago... I was pretty skint back in my university days so i cooked at home....didn't have a table so I used a box upside down and covered it in a red bedsheet (worked pretty well haha)... we sat listening to LTAL and it was perfect for the occasion! My BF loves Treat her like a lady and Just a little bit of love ❤️...

 

The more I'm writing this the more I remember I actually do like this album haha

Where Is The Love, Miles To Go, Us...they were the 1, 2, 3, puncher songs for me on this album. It helped balanced The bigger ballads/hits, The Reason, Immortality, MHWGO. They had more subtlety and nuances to me, but maybe because she's never performed them and they weren't singles. Thank god for the recording sessions we got to see her sing 2 out of the 3!

In the US, though, it wasn't released until LTAL came out. It was the third single here, off LTAL. So I typically think of it as part of LTAL. (Though I first time I heard it was that VH1 Honors show with the high school girl playing the violin; I think that was spring 1997, before LTAL. Such an amazing performance!)

Same for me! I remember always hearing about TLYM before it was released in the US and being so jealous of the extra tracks on the international versions of albums. I definitely remember this performance from VH1 Honors, too! I agree that I never quite know which album TLYM belongs with, but since it's on the US version of LTAL, it feels like it fits with that for me, though I think I can also see how it works with TCOML, too. I guess it just depends on which versions of the albums we are most familiar with.

Yes! Those three songs are such highlights of the album for me! So much nuance and "mood" to these songs.

Totally agree. Where is the love, Miles to go and Us are the only 3 songs from LTAL that I still regularly play. Followed by The Reason and Let's talk about love but they don't come close. And the other tracks just don't do that much to me anymore.

A bit late to the celebration, but I was watching the LTAL recording sessions yesterday in honour of it's 20th anniversary. My god she was so young there! 29! And already a full, worthy carreer behind her! It's still one of the best recording sessions we have! I am really happy that they didn't use those 'Yes yes man' parts on THLAL! My god that is still so embarrasing!

 

I did notice that each time she was recording, there were so many people in the studio, loads of people who didn't seem to have anything to do with it! Like Sony officials etc. they all seems to wanting to be a part of the sensation that is Celine Dion... but where are they now?

Happy 20th LTAL! A classic masterpiece. Boy I remember the day my schoolgirl land me a copy of her's LTAL.

It was a milestone that made me a true Celine fan / maniac.

 

Funny story: She land me a copy of Celine's LTAL and Britney's first CD (think it's Baby one more time)

My first crush for Celine was Beauty and the beast(but at that time I didn't know yet which lady with the beautiful voice sings that song - I was 9 there was no internet or You Tube) Than there was The power of love and It's all coming back to me now on played on the radio but still there was just the lady with a beautiful voice, who is she?

And than this lady finally had a face when she took the stage in Atlanta Olympics '96 with The power of the dream...The lady with the pipes

 

Needless to say which album won my heart. LTAL and Celine herself was like a renaissance in my world of music and beyond...

Don't even ask me about Britney.....each year I'm more ashamed I had listened to that crap(ok Sometimes was on repeat but that's it ) next to masterpiece like LTAL

..... my eternal shame.....God forgive me although I don't believe in you...

 

Once again Thank you Let's talk about love for your existence....and boy that cover...the eyes - the soul in them and those lips. I handed over my heart and soul to Celine Dion the moment LTAL got in my hands and ears Will never forget....

My very first Celine's English-speaking album bought after I discovered it when I was 14-15! I loved the WHOLE album at that time & couldn't stop listening to it over and over, it was so~so good!

Like many of you, though 'the reason' was on the radio, I loved more the album thanks to 'tell him' music video!

Barbra & Celine's duet is so so special and magical & they are so beautiful in this mv that made me decided to buy the album!

This album is a little diamond and that is how I probably started to focus on my learning in English!

I have mixed feelings about LTAL in 2018.

 

Back in the day, I loved it so much but today, it's quite forgetable.

 

Most of all, I can't believe that after the success of FYI , she came back with an album with 7 covers and only 1 new producer ( George Martin). Just like she didn't receive enough new songs?

 

I think this album was made in a rush. Perhaps not vocally, but it's clearly lacking of something new and I think all those big names as duets were meant to hide the poverty of the album as a whole.

 

Once all the "bad things" were removed, there's not much left.

 

1. The worst up-tempo songs of all her discography (and only 2 throughout the album! ). "Treat her like a lady"? Seriously? This song is embarrassing.

2. The choice of the covers. I'm not anti covers. I even like them when her team digs out some unknown songs... but on this album? "When I need you" is an american classic, "I have you than I love you" is an italian one and "Let's talk about love" is a french one.

Classic songs should remain where they are. I mean those 3 songs are fine ( especially "Let's talk about love") but hey....

 

The songs that stand out "The reason", "Immortality", "Miles to go", "Us", "Where is the love".

 

I don't think anybody has an objective opinion about "My heart will go on" now. LOL

 

"Be the man" and "Tell him" are cute , but nothing compared to her ballads on "Céline Dion" or "The colour of my love"

 

So what's left ? "Why oh why" and "Love is on the way".

 

I love these 2 songs to death. I think "Why oh why" is one of her most underrated songs EVER. It has a r'n'b touch ( from a pure r'n'b point of view, it might be bland but from a Céline's point of view, it's just experimental) and I had not noticed before ( just read it on UKMIX forum) , she tends to sing like Toni Braxton in the lowest parts of the song. So true. Very funny because Toni was at her peak and I wondered if Céline wanted a song just like hers (remember "Un break my heart" won over "All by myself" @ the Grammy ?).

"Love is on the way" is a r"n"b cover as well. Though the r'n'b vibes have been softened.

 

At the end of the day, 6 really good songs (to me) is not a good point to make an album, especially when one of those ( Why oh Why) is completely ignored by her fan base.

I love When I need You, I didn't know the original version, I love IHYTILY,it's add something different to her repertoire, I love LTAL. I love those ballads like MTGBIS, Us, LIOTW. Love the sweet song WITL, I know every words of Be The Man by heart. THLAL is my jam when I was young, well I love almost everything and it never change. 😁
