I have a feeling Nickelback might be her toughest competition.

Nickelback and Hedley are her biggest competition......I'll actually be shocked if Celine won.

Not because she doesnt have more fans, but hardly any of them besides us are keen enough to go online and vote.

Nickelback and Hedley all have teen-based computer-additic fans clickity-click clicking away votes :@

Mind you, you think Quebec fans could give her a BIG chunk of votes.....??

Comic Russell Peters is hosting this years Junos again (this Sunday night on CTV in Canada) and here was a recent question he was asked in the national post:

Q Is there anyone you're particularly itching to make fun of?

A "Not so much make fun of, but I think to have fun with, will be Nickelback, Sarah McLachlan - and obviously I'll make the Celine Dion jokes again, because she's Celine Dion."

2.5 days left!!! and I have red carpet audience tickets to see the celebrities walk in

Now why can't Celine show up? -_- :( lol!

I dont think she'll show up or the Junos would HIGHLY advertise that as their roster this year is pathetic with wash ups, has-beens, barely ares and a one big crappy rock band. (Nickelback). The Junos are not what they used to be. They advertise more of a "Russell Peters comedy-fest" than an Awards show.

I have such a strong feeling that she is not winning even one Juno again this year. Fan choice and Single are completely out. Unless a miracle happens. Her only real shot is for DVD, but the voters might hate giving her that since it was an american residence for her show and not Canadian.

i think she's on her way to quebec now so my guess is that she'll be there? but we'll see. i hope she wins something this year.
Posted (edited)

The awards this year are in Vancouver...so she would be staying in her montreal home IF she did go.....hmmm.

But why are the Junos not advertising it? Maybe she's there but 'not performing or presenting'

MAYBE the Junos said "Look...you're winning this.....so come and pick it....but pretend you dont know ....wink wink''

Because seriously If I were Celine or Rene, why go if they are going to shut her out again. She hasnt won a Juno in like 10 years; mind you the woman has 20 of them from previous years, LOL.

unless they are just going back to quebec so rene can finish star academie?

That could be the reasonshe's going to Quebec too....I really don't think she'll be there Sunday night, cuz Russell Peters was interviewed saying she was now ''too big'' to come. lol

But man I wish she was :(

Posted
oh i forgot about star academy and since i'm not from canada and don't really keep up with things like the junos... i had no clue they were in vancouver  but i still like to hear that she's won awards and stuff but i don't like how they snubbed her in the past years... but just so you know i barely know what i'm talking about when it comes to these things i just like that she was nominated and stuff

that's just kinda awkward, huh? "too big" to come to her own country's music awards? yikes.

she'll either be there, or they'll cover it with some sorta story about taking her break, fertility doctor or the like.

Posted (edited)

She hasnt actually attended the JUNO awards since 1998-1999 where she last won like 4 or 5. Even after her break from 2002-2007 where she received multiple nominations every year she never made even one appearance this decade. Mind you they haven't awarded her even ONCE this decade either.

Theres actually a ceremony taking place tonight where they hand out most of the awards, including best music dvd. So tomorrow we'll know if she won that award; personally as I feel-her only shot at an award this year. Tomorrow night at the live telecast here in Canada, Single of the Year (Nomination for "Taking Chances") and Fan Choice are both televised.

10 artists who deserve a Juno

Never mind Céline and Nickelback, these musicians are hot

By Lynn Saxberg, The Ottawa CitizenMarch 28, 2009

Céline Dion's over-emoted pop ballads and the rock-by-numbers grind of Nickelback likely to dominate this year's Juno ceremony -- again -- the old feeling that Canada's music awards are stuck in a rut has resurfaced.

The Junos, handed out each year by the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS), celebrate the accomplishments of the Canadian music industry. This year's shindig takes place in Vancouver this weekend, leading up to the televised gala tomorrow (Sunday).

Vancouver-based rockers Nickelback are in the lead with five nominations, while Montrealer Sam Roberts has four chances at a statue, and Céline Dion and Hedley are tied at three apiece.

No wonder the question of the Juno's relevance to music has come up again. Awards always seem to go to Céline Dion and Nickelback even when there's so much more interesting stuff going on in the Canadian scene.

At least this year we've been spared the indignity of a Canadian Idol being nominated for best new artist (only because last season's winner wasn't forced to rush out a disc during the eligibility period).

Instead, supplying this year's cringe factor are two cheesy retro projects up for major awards. Lost Fingers, a group that specializes in acoustic versions of '80s hits, is nominated for the fan choice award (along with Céline, Feist, Hedley and Nickelback) and album of the year. Also vying for album of the year is Sylvain Cossette's '70s Volume 2, which showcases his interpretation of songs such as Hotel California, Suite Madame Blue and Band on the Run.

If you're wondering where this comes from, and how it ends up being nominated for a Juno, look across the river. Lost Fingers and both of Cossette's '70s projects are big sellers in Quebec.

Commercial success is a component in several of the major Juno categories, including album, artist and group of the year. Nominees in those categories reflect what people are buying.

Looks like the prime demographic still buying music is made up of older women and beer-drinking men, and that's why we see Céline Dion and Nickelback year after year. As for the '70s and '80s retrofests, you can never underestimate the power of nostalgia in purchasing decisions.

Naturally, the biggest names fuel the telecast Sunday, so we'll see Nickelback, Sarah McLachlan and Bryan Adams perform on the show. Once again, it will be hosted by Russell Peters, who brought an edge to last year's proceedings.

CTV has also announced an onslaught of cross-platform coverage. In addition to the main event, the red-carpet show will be featured on specialty channels and radio stations across the country, while the website is bursting with widgets and blogs.

For those of us watching at home, what seems to get lost in all the celebrity hoopla is the music. Many excellent albums were released by Canadian artists last year, and dozens of them are nominated for Junos in the so-called "craft" categories. In most of those awards, nominees are determined by a jury of experts that sift through the submissions.

(the article continues, but listing 10 artists deemed "worthy" of a JUNO win; just thought I would share this with the forum...)

The Canadian Juno Awards are scheduled to air on CTV tomorrow night, so make sure to tune in! Celine is nominated for three awards including Single of the Year for "Taking Chances", Music DVD of the Year for 'Celine Dion: Live in Las Vegas' and Fan Choice Award! Check local listings and don't miss out on this special night!

www.celinedion.com

So Celine's website is encouraging us to watch....GOD I hope they know somthing we don't!

LOL!

I checked the celinedion.com new archives from last year, (LOL) and while they encouraged fans to vote for Fans Choice, they did not mention to watch the awards show when the time came....as they are advertising this year.

I know the artists are not supposed to 'know' if they are winning, but wasn't a french article written about a month ago that stated Celine would be 'participating' in this years show? She just might be accepting an award via Satellite..Cause in order for the Junos to arrange that they'd have to let her know if she won prior to....

Here's hoping!!!!!!!!

Do you guys think that the TC tour might increase her chances of winning the Fan Choice award
