Celine did not sing the Beijing 2008 Olympics theme song

I'm hoping that Celine will be too busy with another baby and not be in a position to say yay or nay to an Olympic song.

I just watched a talk show called Bons Baiser de France (TV show in Quebec). They were live with Mego from France. They were talking about his song that he wrote for Celine and that became a possible choice for the Olympic theme song in China. He said the song was first composed for the Taking Chances album but has been rejected because it was not fitting the concept of the album. René thought it would be a great song for the Olympics so they submitted it among 30 000 others. Now it is part of the 25 songs that have been chosen. The demo was sung by Veronique Dicaire which is a Quebec singer (not by Celine). Apparently, Mego has been asked if it was OK if a chinese athlete could sing a verse in the song.

So Mego thinks that they could be serious about the song.

 

He also said that The Prayer would be part of the set list in the Amsterdam show...

No nothing else. Mego was just syaing that some songs were different from one country to another. He gave this example for Amsterdam as well as Think Twice for England.

NORM: Vegas ties abound at Beijing Olympics

 

 

 

The Beijing Olympics open Friday with several Las Vegas connections, from songbird Celine Dion and swim star Dara Torres to a Cirque-esque performance choreographed by a former "Zumanity" cast member.

 

Dion, who concluded a near-five-year run at Caesars Palace in December, will perform at the opening ceremonies.

 

Torres, whose father, Ed Torres, was a prominent casino operator, is the first American swimmer to qualify for five Olympics and who would be the oldest female swimmer in the history of the Summer Games. She is rumored to be a strong candidate to be the flag bearer for the U.S. delegation when it enters the Olympic stadium.

 

Jesus Villa, who appeared in "Zumanity" as a stub-horned acrobat, has choreographed a two-minute performance featuring Chinese children on jumping stilts.

 

Another local tie will be Brentina, a mare co-owned by legendary Las Vegas banker Parry Thomas, who now lives in Sun Valley, Idaho.

 

Formerly voted Horse of the Year by the U.S. Equestrian Association, Brentina is one of the favorites for the gold medal in dressage. Thomas bought her as a 3-year-old in the biannual German horse auctions.

 

The equestrian events are being held in Hong Kong.

Las Vegas Review Journal usually knows every thing about Celine during the last 5 years. But since she's not there any more, I'm not sure if they are still accurate. But I'll forgive her if that's the reason she canceled the Today Show and Early Show. Also her spokesman may deny it cause the Olympics committee just don't allow revealing it before the ceremony? I won't get my hope too high, though.

No, they won't announce it. Even during the rehearsal the Korean TV recorded, they just played some random music as the theme song. They just won't reveal it before the opening ceremony. It's top secret.

The Summer Olympics have become so huge that they will already be underway for two days before the opening ceremonies air Friday on NBC.

 

The ceremonies mark the official kickoff of the Games and subsequent 16 days of coverage on NBC and its owned cable channels plus Spanish-language Telemundo, which NBC also owns.

 

You might say the unofficial kickoff of the Olympics comes Wednesday at the unassuming time of 4:55 a.m. on MSNBC when the US women's soccer team takes on Norway. It is the first event listed on NBC's voluminous Olympics schedule, which encompasses 3,600 hours of coverage.

 

The planned coverage of virtually every Olympic sport is so comprehensive that NBC even has a trampoline analyst (his name is Tim Daggett).

 

Coverage of Friday's opening ceremonies is scheduled to last four hours, live from the now-famous Olympic stadium in Beijing that locals call the Bird's Nest because of its state-of-the-art architecture consisting of irregularly connected beams.

 

President and Mrs. Bush are scheduled to be in the audience for the pageant, which will feature the traditional march of the athletes (known as the Parade of Nations) and lighting of the torch (now known as a "cauldron" as in, "Lighting of the Olympic Cauldron," according to NBC's press materials).

 

The ceremony has already been besieged by mini-scandals. Some heads of state have announced they won't attend because of China's record on human rights. Steven Spielberg reportedly resigned last February as artistic adviser for the ceremonies because, in his view, China isn't doing enough to ease the suffering in Darfur, Sudan.

 

And a popular Chinese singer, Gillian Chung, was dropped from the lineup of performers after photos surfaced in which she had posed nude with another Chinese pop star, Edison Chen.

 

However, Chung was replaced by another Chinese act, a group called A-one; Spielberg was replaced by a Chinese director named Zhang Yimou; and Celine Dion is still scheduled to perform.

(11:00 a.m. GMT) It's really weird but two reliable American newspapers: Las Vegas Review-Journal and the New York Post list Celine Dion among the performers at the opening ceremonies of 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. The ceremony will be held on Friday, August 8.
