Guys, was FIY more successful than LTAL?

According to 1999 data, FIY had sold 32 million copies worldwide and LTAL around 31.5 million. This does not included any streaming. Only albums sold! The current values must be very interesting...

One day we will get them updated lol

I have to say if it weren't for my heart will go on, ltal would probably sell half of the copies. None of the songs from the album was a big hit apart of mhwgo. Tell him, immortality only hit a moderate success in u.k

The entire focus was placed on MHWGO. At the peak of Celine's career, her team and Sony decided to promote albums instead of songs. The Reason could have been a new BYLM, but not even a video clip was shot specifically for this song.

The result is that Celine Dion today has at least 8 albums that are major bestsellers around the world... TCOML, D, FIY, LTAL, SSFDA, TAST, ATW and ANDHC. ;)

I think it would have sold way more than half of what it sold even without MHWGO. LTAL was released about one month BEFORE the Titanic movie and it was already selling like crazy (biggest first week numbers in many countries) probably due to her big album of the year win with FIY the year before and the hype around her duets with Barbra Streisand and Pavarotti. I really wonder what it would have sold without MHWGO.

And to be fair, Sony did not really promote LTAL much because it was already enjoying the hype from titanic. If so, they would have capitalised some songs in the album and released proper music videos. Wasted.

And if Sony is smart, here is an idea.

Why not now shoot a music video like proper video for To love you more. I know celine is old now, but with a modern music video take, they could come up with concept and revitalise FIy anniversary. It is now like they promoting courage anyway. For the sake of sales, fiy album might have sold more than courage in the last 6 months

It would be amazing if they really re-released FIY with the Spector songs, since the events really coincided this year. Remeber wehen they re-released Deux and TASP some years ago? It was possible back then. Why wouldn't it be possible with FIY now? Edited by ryba

And that's how they will celebrate LOL

Maybe next year they manage to release the MHWGO videoclip....

Well, they could at least release Live In Memphis on youtube... A remastered version would be great. Or even the same quality as that Because You Loved Me from All The Wat DVD...

It seems that they're following the same path as last year for the 25th anniversary of D'eux... "Remastering" the first music video from the album and then (hopefully) uploading the associated concert to VEVO. If this turned to be the case, we should be getting Live in Memphis in HD soon!

Celine's team just updated her Facebook banner to celebrate Falling Into You's 25th anniversary... and I've never felt more rejuvenated. :-D

It’s so refreshing to see some sort of motion with Celine / her team!

I'd be floored if they uploaded an official version of the leaked footage of Celine recording "Your Light." It may be less than a minute, but what a treat it is!

Does anyone remember whose idea it was for Celine to sing River Deep Mountain High on Letterman? I remember someone posting about this a while ago - about how somebody didn’t want Celine to sing another ballad.

Also, RDMH was by no means a hit song for Tina Turner. Did it grow in popular over the years among Tina Turner fans in the 70s / 80s? (As far as Tina singing it at her shows / being a fan favorite)

Or was it Celine who truly resurrected the song and then Tina reclaimed it?

It would be nice indeed, but without owning the rights to those Spector songs, Sony can't release them.

I hope they do a little more to celebrate this album. It deserves it!

So, that's it? The remastered video has some serious rendering issues (her hair brush is almost a portal to another dimension) and all they gave us was a streaming link? Her highest-selling album to date and that's all they do? I'm not expecting a vinym re-issue because we already had that (even though it's missing one song). But they could have given the collectors something... Anything...

By now, Celine probably has more discarded projects than released ones.

I'll try and find the video where she days it, but either someone on her team or someone from the David Letterman Show didn't want just another ballad or pop song from Celine. So, I think Celine herself but not sure, said "you want rock, you got it" and she did Tina Turner's song.

Phil Specter was watching that night and that's what inspired him to contact her to collaborate. Dunno about your other questions though.

At least they chose to highlight the title track and one of the more hidden gems from the album! It needs more recognition. Good call.

It's also so refreshing to see Celine's team using the word "iconic" to describe one of her albums. It's a breath of fresh air!

Celine has always been able to remain humble -- even at the peak of her career -- because Rene, as a phenomenal manager, was damn sure she always got the praise / recognition she deserved. It was the perfect balance.

I think Aldo would have kept that up... but since Celine's been without a manager for years now, it feels like she hasn't gotten as much praise / recognition because no one's at the helm of her image / career other than humble Celine.

And Celine's just not wired to think like a manager. (Even though a lot of us here on the forum are!) That's probably why she likes to just focus on the concerts / get out onstage -- because that's where she knows she's at her most powerful and knows exactly what she's doing.

I'm hoping we see a big change with Celine's team, where they really get creative and ensure that Celine gets all the praise she deserves by how they promote her image.

I think and hope enough time has passed that she can look back and start to praise herself. I always though she seemed more ready to praise D'eux than any other album, and this was not long after its release.

I also notice she doesn't like to watch herself at all. When TV shows that she's on show her old clips of her performances or interviews, she laughs it off or gets embarrassed or sometimes doesn't even make any expression at all. I always wondered about that, she seemed quite uncomfortable looking back.

River Deep Mountain High was a well-known and respected song long before Céline covered it. The original release may not have been a hit in the US, but it was a hit in Europe and was re-released in the US a few years later, and it was considered Phil Spector's best song for many years (and probably still is). It was also covered by both Deep Purple and The Supremes & The Four Tops, the latter of which was its most successful release in the US. Tina recorded a few different solo versions over the years and the song was included on her '80s live album Tina Live In Europe and her multi-million-selling first greatest hits album, Simply The Best. All of that was before Céline's version.

Thanks!

I thought I had read somewhere that Phil Spector himself considered it his best song and was upset / shaken that it didn’t chart well in the US. I didn’t realize that many other people also consider it his best work. I love the Tina Turner version, and I always love the grittiness of Tina’s voice.

It was a fun / smart / bold move for Celine to cover the song.
