ALONE 100% confirmed as next U.S. single

Well, chuck if you get to talk to anyone about it again, you can tell them that fade away has already made some new Celine fans. I have friends who would rather die than listen to Celine, so I just had to make them listen to her without them knowing it was her, and when they heard fade away they all wanted to know what song that was so they could go get it on itunes. Now they all have TONS of Celine

so I really think that sony doesn't realizes how popular this song could be

Let's hope the clouds that bring us down will "Fade Away" instead of Celine and her album. Fingers crossed that they'll get it right for the 3rd one!

Chuck your frustrations are well heard and are exactly, EXACTLY how I feel. ALone is power house performance and Celine nailed it. Give her that credit in your review. But I wouldnt shy away from pointing many of the stand out tracks Sony are closing the doors on and, if its not too late, to embrace them in future single releases before "Taking Chances" Fades Away...

THAT is perfect!!! I completely agree, Chuck, PLEASE make a mention in your review that Sony is ABANDONING some of the best tracks on the album and settling for something that is sure to flop. Perhaps making a mention of Celine taking chances, while Sony refuses to would also send a message that her fans are fed up with Sony's decisions. Definitely do not sugar coat anything. Sony stupidly releases another cover of a song that is not relevant with a style that is not relevant right now, Sony needs to smarten up. Maybe you can add that in too? Perhaps in a more professional way than how I wrote it. lol Perhaps even a suggestion for an edgier single for the third one *cough cough* Fade Away?

Thanks Chuck for the extra details. Sony is really out of touch!! I hope Celine ends up changing labels...

Anyway, you now have to write about Alone... :whistling: It's not that it's a bad song. Many people love the song. The problem is that Sony could have been a little more daring with the second single... Eyes on Me or Fade Away. I hope you do mention this in your review. Hopefully it will be a sleeper hit. Can't you mention the poll we had here in your review? Maybe when Sony actually reads the review, they will start thinking!! And John Doelp won't be able to keep that poll under wraps... and everyone at Sony will now know about Fade Away being OUR choice... :hmm:

And yes, Clive Davis knows about promotion and about "spending"... Just look at Leona Lewis. First single in the US and a #1??? It's a cute song but that's it. Smells like Clive has downloaded a lot of his girls' singles... Why can't Celine work with him??? :hmm:

Please don't be too mean in your review though. We don't want AC stations to just disregard the song without testing it first with their audiences. We might be surprised but the public's reaction... *hoping anyway* :bye1:

You know as a fan of Alone, and I"m sure many of you are, it is a great song....really it is. We all just see SOO many other great songs that can be released before Alone is. What frustrates me the most was the gap between single releases and the lack of effort for the songs to impact more then just AC formats. Lost "CHANCES" with past albums. Former songs that could of been singles lost for tracks that Sony felt were 'safe'. Alone is chosen, I support it! Hell, I think the whole album is great albeit a few that are not 'single' material.

Chuck, as you mentioned Rene has done so much for Celine and it's evident he cares greatly about her future. Celine is the not the business savy woman nor did I ever get the impression she gave a damn about 'single' choice. still, she is passionate about the 'performance' . I think if you told her tomorrow they were releasing "A song for you" as a single she'd say "ok" and go with it.

Again, I hate to see missed opportunites with this album.....looking back a year or two after its over and off the charts and say "WHAT if" they released fade away.....Surprise Surprise.....Shadow of Love........My Love.(LINDA PERRY--HELLOOO HUGE MARKETING FACTOR).....ya know REALLY pushed the gems.......where would she be?

P.S Interesting enough Chuck, I posted only a day or two ago in one of my entries that I'd "love to see what Clive Davis" would do with this album if she was with him!

i think one major factor here is that everyone who was in charge of sony when celine was paying everybody's salary is long gone.... whether tommy mottola or donnie iner or polly anthony... so who's there to go to bat for her? say what you will about clive davis, but you know when you're on his label, he's watching every move... look at alicia keys, a beautiful young lady with moderate talent... and she was EVERYWHERE with her album's release... including the top of the album chart, in front of celine. that's not because "no one' is the greatest song in 20 years. that's because clive connects the dots... and pays for promotion.

meanwhile, AC radio has changed dramatically from the days of "my heart will go on," which is why i was in favor of TC as the first single. it WAS edgier than much of celine's previous radio output. but now "alone"? not only does it suggest that celine's edge was a fluke, but 1) "alone" is hardly as hip as 2008 AC radio and 2) celine is hardly a given at the format, so it's as if they're handing radio programmers two strikes: a well-worn act and an exhausted song. i think there was great potential to build momentum and really sell the idea that celine has evolved for real, with the choice of a cool, hip track that still delivered a signature kickass vocal. there were a number of choices on the disc for that... as we know... "alone" is not among them.

thank you for this new info and view! I think you're right, cos of the recent changes in Sony exclusitives club, the priorty as promoting Céline as their main artist has sunk quicker then the Titanic! :down: They keep promotiong the 'old' céline... and appearntly René is oke with it! :doh:

:yes: :yes: She and Ben Moody derve credit for this remake! I looooove this song! But like I said, it would have been a great single in January!

BTW Céline can say 'I don't care about numbers' but surely she must care about songs, that she want to sing and promote, cos she's very proud or moved by them? Like My Love or This Time? Take Ten Days for example... ANDHC was already finished, but she loved this song, and she pushed it! The outcome is amazing, it came on the album but unfortnatly it wasn't pushed as a single :hmm: Now who's fault is that?

they got their "ballad" Celine Dion they wanted to see and they did it by releasing almost only ballad cuts in the 90's. Now she has recorded an album that shows her true soft-rock edge coming straight from her 1991 album "Dion chante Plamondon" they totally ignored it and let it be on its own.

Nothing surprising business-wise.

Hi Celine cats-

I was at Sony in New York on Thursday 3/27 and was given the CD promo for Celine's follow-up to "Taking Chances." It is indeed "Alone." sigh... album version, no edit, no remix for radio...

I am admittedly bummed...

I have to tell you all that, even though Alone would not be my choice as a single, the non Celine fans who have been around while I have been playing the album have ALL said (as soon as Alone) started playing: Is this that HEART song? And when I say yes, they stop and listen to it and all remark that it's an amazing version of the song. These people are all in the 23-28 age range (Oh, and my bf who is 43 and REALLY can't stand Celine). So, it is very possible that, if the single gets marketed correctly that it could be a BIG hit on AC radio and a top 40 hit on mainstream radio. Let's think positively. A big hit for Celine, regardless of what it is, will help Taking Chances sales and help to get a 3rd single released. I understand all the frustration because I share it but the negativity isn't helping in any way.

i'm against the choice but i'm more frustrated by how late THIS song got released, for all i know they could have released a Taking Chances/alone double-A side single but they never released one at all, the song should have been released in december or january, close to her live performances of the song not now... and with a nice fitting video, starting with a scene with dialogue and then the song starting. it can't be THAT hard or non profitable to make a damn video for the best selling female artist...

Well, that Taking Chances video looked pretty expensive and we all know what happened to the single. Sony has probably spent as much money as they're willing to for a video unless she has another major hit.

It's never too late for a song that's good (none of my friends know about the "you could download on itunes 6 months ago" thing). AND, believe it or now, some people couldn't care less about a song having a video; they just listen to the song.

Be honest! There's no reason for sucking up for them and support their wacko ways.

And people, I honestly don't see the brilliance in this cover. It is a nice song, well done, it is album fill out and could very well be single b-side material, that and nothing more, it steals way too much spotlight off of other tracks on the album in the public eye. If it would had been as great as the orginal, not even then should it be a single, it had to be either better or a new interpretion, nothing of this does this song stand for. I expected more of Moody.

If releasing a track simply coz it got Moody's name attacthed to it This Time would be a much wiser track, but that would inlcude the "risk" it brought a new hit for Céline. :glare:

And would people please think about what you're asking for when you plead for My Love to be a single... it would be as fatal as Goodbye's The Saddest Word. It is greatly produced, and I hope Perry does more production for Céline. The lyrics are banal, and the ballad itself is NOT taking chances. It is NOT single material, it would infact be even worse than Alone as single. Why can't you see that?!

Well, I certainly agree with you about My Love not being single material (although I think it's a good song with one of her best vocals to date). IMO, it's only an album track, not radio friendly. However, regarding Alone. It's only the fans who I've heard say it's not very good. Every non-Celine fan I know who hears it thinks it's incredible. Fans and non-fans are never going to agree on what's good. The fans buy the albums; the non-fans listen to the singles.

I agree. Every non-Celine fan who has heard me play Alone has been floored by how awesome she sounds on it. I think an artist has truly "made it big" when non-fans walk around with their songs stuck in their head, which Celine has been doing for quite some time now.

My room mate was humming it the other night... another friend knocked on my bedroom door and asked if he could listen to it, too, then he asked if I had seen youtube vids of her singing it live - he had heard it and went so far as to look it up on youtube.

Not every fan is going to like every choice a record label makes. I for one enjoy her rendition of the song, but may not agree with the video choice, timing of the release. But hey, she's on tour. This is to be expected.

I frankly think that Alone as sang by Celine is great. I don't remember much of Heart's version as I was very very young when it was released and don't hear it much often now. So maybe young audience will appreciate it.

Also, I find Alone to be much more catchier, fresh and single-worthy than some other ballads that were relased as singles some years ago (''Have you ever been in love'' ''I want you to need me'' etc...). Heck I loike it better than Taking Chances.

The problem might be the lack of promotion for the single and thus the overall album. Some artist released their singles in exclusivity on websites like People.com, blogs like buzzsugar.com will make a post about new singles with first listens(Where I heard Madonna's 4 minutes) ... Those singles are treated like events and build anticipation.

A co -worker of mine said 'Hey that Celine Dion, so she have a new song? it's actually.... good! has a guitare and all'.... and he's a guitare player in a band, which is more like rock/metal etc... Alone could be huge... but it needs a good video!!!! plus it needed to be released 4 months ago! :whistling:

I laughed so hard at that. I DO think I Got Nothin Left would work well though - just because of the Ne-Yo factor. Plus, it doesn't really sound like her so people who turn it halfway through the song will wonder who the singer is. My friends who heard Can't Fight The Feeling, not knowing that I was listening to Celine, wondered who that artist was cuz they LOVED it!!!!

If there has to be a ballad, then let it be I've Got Nothing Left, not My Love!! I've Got Nothing Left could end up being played on some R&B stations due to Ne-Yo's collaboration... and it's a great song! :yes:

This is so disheartening... "Alone" was the #1 song of the year when it was originally released... 20 years ago. It wasn't just a hit, it was a massive hit. And to cover it is fine but to use it as a single, the cover would have to be quite different and/or better. Sadly it is not better nor different. Imagine someone recording My Heart Will Go On 10 years from now and releasing the song as a single. Or I will Always Love You. Those huge hits cannot be redone without doing something different with them. Celine has failed to d so. Therefore the single choice looks like a career-suicide move. But like Chuck said, Celine doesn't care. She records the songs and her job is done. So someone else isn't doing his/her job.

Plus the song has been used too many times on American Idol and has this "amateur" connotation to it.

What a sad sad choice.
