ALONE 100% confirmed as next U.S. single

But it's no good just saying the single is released, it has to be promoted- like EOM in the UK? Who the hell knew it was released? It was played now and again on one radio station- what good is that? She has never had so much publicity in the UK for a long time but they should have had a plan and carried it through from November on- like new single starting heavy in January- not just giving it to Radio 2. Now we have to live through Mariah and Whitney and Madonna and see how many videos and singles they get released. Yes, Celine isn't 'cool' like they are, but Jesus, release a song off the back of another one and make a video for God's sake. As Shaun said, it's embarrassing now, the whole Taking Chances thing- of all the songs, and Alone is probably my most listened to, it shouldn't have been a single. FA, SOL...EOM Will.I.Am...just makes me mad cos they could have made it so big.

whitney is still considered "cool" in the UK?? yikes.

Alone should have been released way back when TC went nowhere as a lead single. Given Celine's hit track record doing covers (All By Myself, If You Asked Me To, Power of Love...), it wouldn't have been a bad idea if Alone followed that path.

Truth is, Sony waited too, too long! That, or they never cared at all!

Poor Celine -- with no legit hit singles nor albums in years now, she seems stucked with a label that has waned valuing a truly marketable talent!!

Posted

As someone earlier pointed out Celine's team, including Rene and Celine herself, simply don't care about chart positions anymore. Their view is that of, "If it happens, great, I'm happy, but if not I have my [our] son, we have each other, life is great. Now where's my tomatoe plant to pick?" I'm not saying this is a bad thing, but it is what it is.

I do agree that "Fade Away" should have been the next single. The intro is distinctive enough to make people KNOW who it is once they've heard it a few times and get excited. It has a POSITIVE message - something we need more of in today's world! Etc., etc., etc.

I truly believe the only way anything is going to change is if we, the fans, actually talk to Rene or Celine directly about this. Maybe Chuck should be asking more hard-hitting questions instead of, "Celine, what is something about yourself that would shock your fans?" How about a more direct question like, "Celine, why is it that you don't push harder for edgier, more uptempo things to be promoted? Do you not care for uptempo numbers?" At least THEN we would get an answer from Celine. Whether or not it would be 100% truthful is another story, but at least then we, the fans, would have somewhere to start.

Quite frankly I think Rene needs to step down from being her manager and start being only her husband and friend. It's time to let someone who has more time for marketing take charge. Being a husband, a father, and a manager all at once simply doesn't work for very long. Sorry to say, but we're seeing the results of that now, if not before already.

:sigh: Thanks, Chuck, for the pathetically, sad info.

Yip I think she is, she released a hits album with no promotion and it sold the same as Celines. Its quite sad actually. I do think "Alone" is the right single for the UK and if there was promotion it could be a big hit. Number 85 for an album track in the charts here is a good achievment and if they had started promoting it then and there it would have been a big hit I think.

Sadly though I think Celine is now an Albums artist and she is just not interested in Singles

This album could have had a great success if SONY has done its work.

Like dhena said what is the point of releasing a second single of a song which Celine has been singing for the past 6 months?

+ the video is crap. How can they release a lipped performance from a TV special as an official video ? This is absolutely brainless.

I think if they have released ''Shadow Of Love'' as first or second single (of course not 5-6 months after the album release) it would have been better. I'm sure the general public will love this song + It's radio friendly. There are better songs in the album than ''Taking Chances'' and ''Alone'' I don't know why they decided to put out these two.

Yeah I also agree! No offense but René is already 66. I'm sure he's still very youthfull... but I don't want him having another heart attack! He should be the husband and father... and grandfather!! I wonder when he sees his grandchild!! It's time to enjoy life, like Céline would say! A new manager, who isn't afraid to do things radically different would be good imo! Although I don't think René would ever let anybody near Céline! -_-

What was the EOM with William for?

What was Refuse To Dance feat Dr.Alban for???

Hahaha, shut up! What does Dr Alban has to do with Céline, haha. RTD is a superb track however, should be in tis tour.

I must say I am not that impressed by this decision. It took them six months to figure out what the sticker on the album cover said?!

The pace in which they are operating is fatal. Why didn't they make the albums title track Fade Away instead, would had been a much more suitable name for this concept. The tour aswell - the Fade Away tour. :glare:

Peace and love to all.

Well sadly, however that post was intented, I have to agree. I mean I see topics saying "vote for alone, yada yada" how can I support a single I don't even have the slightest sympaties for - wouldn't that be way too dogmatic?! And then we would only feed the Céline teams theory - no matter how much we do not like what they do we will still support it and put our money and energy to back it up, I'm sorry folks I ain't seeing how we ever can expect things to change if we do that.

And like someone said the concept is way blown away when they keep showing off the big no-no:s of the album, the tracks that strictly contradict the taking chances concept, they have now showcased two of the no-no:s (A World To Believe In and Alone) that only leaves out A Song For You. And if they don't stop there I am certain they will continue with the rest weaker to stronger - Skies Of LA, New Dawn, My Love (Don't get me wrong these are all very fine tracks but NO single material!).

i totally agree joe......

sony are not working it for celine their actions do not make sense to me at all ......and as rene is Celine's manager ....he has to take responsibility...i said it before sony/rene/celine are only interested in the big money...and thats the tour....very disappointing to the fans that they are that mercenary and that fans opinions dont matter to them...its our money and support that put them where they are now and yet this is how we are treated....very poor show.

does celine ever go online and read any of this???..is there one person just one person on her team who can bring these view points to her....or has she become so far removed from her fans that all we are is a meal ticket and a pension fund??

ok rant over

but it is so frustrating :angry2:

i wanna enjoy celine's music and successes but all of this is so negative

love doesn't ask why

speaks from the heart and never explains

dont you know that love doesn't think twice

it can come all at once or whisper from a distance

Personally, I think the next single should have been Eyes On Me (feat. Wiil.I.Am), I think it would've really had people excited and they would've taken notice of the new Celine.....

Sony, and Celine, have had their chances since her return to release "cool" and chartable singles but opportunities have been missed or inexplicable decisions made. It's no surprise to see all the other "divas" having chart success with their singles. They (or their record companies) choose relevant singles and not random album tracks.

Sony have had chance after chance to keep Celine relevant. Why wasn't "Sorry For Love" or "When The Wrong One Loves You Right" chosen as the follow up to "I'm Alive"? Instead we got "Goodbye's The Saddest Word", a flop all over the world. The Destiny's Child version of WTROLYR was screaming to be released.

Why then wasn't "Reveal" released as the follow up to "I Drove All Night"? Instead we got "Have You Ever Been In Love", a flop all over the world.

Let's not even talk about "Miracle", absolutely embarrassing in terms of trying to remain relevant.

If they insisted on promoting Live In Vegas why weren't "You and I" and "Ain't Gonna Look The Other Way" serviced to radio?

And now, here we are again. Celine has BUCKETLOADS of modern fresh relevant singles on "Taking Chances" that could be released. Where is the already recorded Will.I.Am version of "Eyes On Me", or how abot sending "I Got Nothing Left" to radio and playing off the fact NeYo was involved? Of how about TAKING A CHANCE and releasing "Just Fade Away" or "Can't Fight The Feeling" to radio and actively suporting them? Instead we get "Alone", same old Celine!!!! Fabulous another Top 75 smash!!

The reason, the REAL reason, is that no-one, not Sony, not Celine, not Rene actually gives a damn anymore and moreover no-one actually wants Celine to change. They are all content releasing ballad after ballad. They are content feeding from "My Heart Will Go On" 10 years after its release date and they are happy including "Love Can Move Mountains" on tour 16 years after it was just an album track!

Nobody wants Celine to take a chance, that's the problem!!

shaun -- you really nailed it with your comments here. i couldn't agree more with the "singles that should have been." well said.

BTW, in my conversation at sony, i expressed my disappointment over "alone" and said, "I thought we were building toward 'Eyes On Me' after the performance with will.I.am on the special." the sony rep (and this was NOT john doelp) inferred that he THOUGHT the label had pursued it and the will.i.am camp refused to give clearance to add him to the song...

The Sony representatives with their inferences... it's plain clear that they didn't want to cash out a certain sum of money for Céline Dion is not worth it currently.

Hey Chuck!

At your meeting with Sony did they give any indication or inference as to WHY of all songs they picked this one? I just kinda want to get inside their heads for a brief moment to figure out what the HELL they are thinking. Might you be able to "infer" the next time you see someone from Sony, that Fade Away needs to be next, because the album is doing just that.

Hi Celine cats-

I was at Sony in New York on Thursday 3/27 and was given the CD promo for Celine's follow-up to "Taking Chances." It is indeed "Alone." sigh... album version, no edit, no remix for radio...

I am admittedly bummed...

cheers-

=Chuck=

Thank you for the info! Unfortunately, this won't help anything to release the song as a single after it has already appeared and fallen off the iTunes charts like 2 months ago... uugh SONY!!!

Well if promoted correctly, maybe the single can do well. I mean, it's still a great song so let's just hope for the best.

Or maybe Will.i.am doesn't want to hurt his "cool" reputation on a Celine song...?? :hmm:

I don't know what to think anymore. I bet Clive Davis is paying someone at Sony to ruin Celine's career... :whistling:

As for René and Céline... well, it's usually up to the record label to decide which songs are released as singles. Not many artists have a say on that matter unfortunately...
