The ball is in Celine's court: DOES SHE STILL WANT IT?

you see there's something I was thinking.... maybe she doesn't want big hits anymore... she would do more promotion, more appearances on tv show... much more work... I don't think she wants that anymore

But also... if she doesn't have that hit-urge anymore... why doesn't she take the time to make, record en produce an album? Not just 2 weeks before you go on holiday... :ermm:

Ah well... Guess there's no turning back.

And it's obviously better to be optimistic than pesimistic so... YAY FOR CELIINNNEE! :cheer:

Here, here E! If it's 100% confirmed what good is it Coulda Woulda Shoulda'ing now. I hope it's a HUGE success. Personally I liked it right off the bat, whereas TCH took a few listens before I started to like it. And yes I already know I follow her blindly, I don't care :D

For those of you wondering how the tour is selling in the states, it' selling VERY well!!!! Madsion Square Gardens show is sold out and they added a second show and thats almost sold out........plus many other second show added in cities such as Boston. The tour is selling better than Mariah's "Adventures of mimi' tour which supported a HUGE album.

Celine will never have a problem drawing a crowd...Now as far as Alone is concerned, I agree.....I bitched and complained, but to take a breather for a second, when I first intially heard this song, I LOVED it.....i mean I LOVED it. Not only that, many of my non-celine fans liked it......so, we can't change the time gap in the single release, that sucks.....lets just really hope this song has some legs...LETs get PEREZ to pump it. He LOVED it when the recording session was out!

Well she has said something like that, that it doesn't matter anymore.

But why then continue doin main stream commercial albums, with as schizo mix of songs just for the sake to please EVERYBODY, instead of attempting a higher artistic level?

Exactly Fred... that's what I mean!

She doesn't 'need'/'want'/'cares for' big hits, jet we have an album that is full of mainstream pop and different music styles... I want my French English album!! Damnit!! :pinch:

What? They want Celine to leave? Why? Beacuse an album from her sold 3M copies?

If they does, they truly stupid. I think any big record comapny wants Celine...

Is Rene don't want to do anything? Is Celine Dion starts to be a regular 2nd class singer?

WHAT IS GOING ON ?!? 6 months for what?!?

I think we should send E-mal to someone. Behind Sony, who more is managing Celine?

Well most record company that's dealing with a superstar will eventually have to drop them because the success factor is short lived. It's happened with Michael "freak" Jacklson, "Annie "Genius" Lennox, Mariah "I still think I'm 14" Carey, and many others. Sony/BMG is probably just trying to find a way to get rid of Celine. I have to say this is probably the best way to do it... by making sure everything about her releases flops. :glare:

Just heard it on Singapore's radio. So this should be the single here.Hope it will do well.

If ever a boy stood on the moon

All the heavens would call their angels 'round

Stop the tears from troubled skies from falling

If ever the river could whisper your name

Would the choices you make still be the same

Like a flower that dies from angry rain

Why do we hurt ourselves?

Where is the love.......

Yeah, indeed TCH is a commercial album. If this album wasn't about sales, people like Jay Dudt (a jazz producer) and the Ferland(?) guy who wrote "No One Kisses Like You" would not have been bumped off the album. Celine was obviously encouraged to work with the "in" crowd of Ne-Yo, Perry, Shanks and Moody but it seems to me that when the first single underperformed, Sony just stopped believing that she could regain lost ground with her "new" sound, oblivious to the fact, of course, that TC was never a superb choice for a single to begin with.

What Sony was saying before the album's release:

"Celine is the same age as Kylie Minogue and just a year older than Gwen Stefani and Mariah Carey."

What they ALWAYS thought:

"Celine is just 2 decades younger than dinosaur diva Barbra and wax-faced Barry Manilow."

well, since... someone back there on page 4 asked...

first, when i was at sony, the dude i met with knows that i cover all things celine at billboard, but is not directly involved in her camp. so, no, we didn't talk in particular detail, other than what i already said: my sort of "ugh" reaction and a quick question about will.i.am and as i said, he intimated that they couldn't get clearance to add him on.

when i saw john doelp in december in vegas, i explained to him that "fade away" was far and away the favorite among her most passionate followers (that's you guys!) and as you know, his response was a seemingly surprised "really," then when i said, "so what's it gonna be?" he smiled... and gave me nothing...

anyway, many of us here are mightily frustrated... the lack of promotion in general, the endless length of time between TC and a second single... and of course, another remake, when there is so much to choose from.

i think one major factor here is that everyone who was in charge of sony when celine was paying everybody's salary is long gone.... whether tommy mottola or donnie iner or polly anthony... so who's there to go to bat for her? say what you will about clive davis, but you know when you're on his label, he's watching every move... look at alicia keys, a beautiful young lady with moderate talent... and she was EVERYWHERE with her album's release... including the top of the album chart, in front of celine. that's not because "no one' is the greatest song in 20 years. that's because clive connects the dots... and pays for promotion.

meanwhile, AC radio has changed dramatically from the days of "my heart will go on," which is why i was in favor of TC as the first single. it WAS edgier than much of celine's previous radio output. but now "alone"? not only does it suggest that celine's edge was a fluke, but 1) "alone" is hardly as hip as 2008 AC radio and 2) celine is hardly a given at the format, so it's as if they're handing radio programmers two strikes: a well-worn act and an exhausted song. i think there was great potential to build momentum and really sell the idea that celine has evolved for real, with the choice of a cool, hip track that still delivered a signature kickass vocal. there were a number of choices on the disc for that... as we know... "alone" is not among them.

meanwhile, i'm trying to figure out how the hell i'm ever going to write a single review for this song... i gotta be honest. oops.

and as for the chump that suggested here that i ask celine tougher questions about her career choices... you know, in the past when i've tried to "go there" with celine, it's always more than apparent that she is deliberately distanced from that side. you read her quote about "i record and my job is done. it's up to the label to get the numbers"... right? so asking celine about single choices and chart momentum... it's just not her game...

and that, i believe, is one reason why she still is able to get any enjoyment out of this 25 years later... because she hasn't been beaten down by the business like a whitney... thank god for rene for taking care of all of that. truly, anyone here who is riding him for celine's challenges needs to understand that none of us would be gathered here writing 5000 words a minute if it weren't for the man.

ok, enough yammering from me...

hugs & xxx, celine cats,

=chuck=

Thanks for your post Chuck!

We know you are doing everything in your power to help, and if you could do more you would. God what ARE you going to write about this?

Let's hope the clouds that bring us down will "Fade Away" instead of Celine and her album. Fingers crossed that they'll get it right for the 3rd one!

Thanks a lot for your input & point of view Chuck - very much appreciated! :D

Do you by any chance know how many albums Céline still has under her contract with Sony?

And perhaps a status of the situation with Vito Luprano in Canada (and if it has any effect on future business? :) Thanks!

Easy... just write the TRUTH! That this is the worst option as a single, and that we're really upset with that

A refreshing view, Chuck. I enjoyed it throughout. The reality we are dealing with now is that nobody has any kind of a distant feeling of listening to us. the sales are going "acceptable", they're seemingly reaching the expected levels of Sony's management and they truly don't seem to have a plan as to how to promote their artist that in the past always promoted herself by herself without any help. Always, always.

they got their "ballad" Celine Dion they wanted to see and they did it by releasing almost only ballad cuts in the 90's. Now she has recorded an album that shows her true soft-rock edge coming straight from her 1991 album "Dion chante Plamondon" they totally ignored it and let it be on its own.

Nothing surprising business-wise.

Chuck your frustrations are well heard and are exactly, EXACTLY how I feel. ALone is power house performance and Celine nailed it. Give her that credit in your review. But I wouldnt shy away from pointing many of the stand out tracks Sony are closing the doors on and, if its not too late, to embrace them in future single releases before "Taking Chances" Fades Away...
