The new Madonna CD "MDNA" has highly plummeted in sales numbers the last week in the United States.

 

In the first week 359,000 copies were sold, yet in the second week there were only 46,000 CDs sold in America. And that has everything to do with a promotional gimmick.

 

The bulk of Madonna's first week sales was caused by "tying" it with tickets for her concert tour in America.

I remember in 2003 when American life was nb. 1 in USA with 241000 and Céline´s One heart few weeks earlier was "only" nb. 2 with more than 430000, Madonna knows what to do to be nb. 1 and media could write that she has the most nb. 1 albums in USA or UK and another "records" about her ... anyway only 46000 this is really bad ...

Madonna's new album is set to drop out of the UK Album Chart Top 40 on just its 3rd week of release!! In the UK midweeks it is currently not in the Top 40. That would mean the history of MDNA would be 1-7-OUT.

MDNA is a terrible and low quality album. I'm not surprised to see that the album is flopping.

Madonna's MDNA sets record for largest drop in chart history

 

The Queen of Pop is used to breaking records — she is the highest-selling female recording artist of all time — but you probably won't hear her shouting from the rooftops about this one.

 

Madonna's 12th studio album MDNA is about to set the record for the biggest second week sales drop in U.S. Billboard chart history, Forbes reports.

 

Racking up sales of 359,000 album sales in the first week, MDNA is on track to sell only 46,000 copies by the end of this week. Forbes estimates a drop of 88 percent, which will surely displace the Material Girl's eighth number one album in the US.

 

It's not all bad news for the leotard-loving 53-year-old. The album, featuring the singles 'Give Me All Your Luvin'' and 'Girl Gone Wild', is the biggest-selling album debut of 2012 on the Billboard charts.

 

But Madge may have tricked her way to the top. MDNA was included in the ticket price for her upcoming shows, which definitely could've helped boost sales.

 

The Hollywood Reporter claims 185,000 copies of the album were sold in the ticket package, but the figures are still unconfirmed.

 

In New Zealand, MDNA dropped from number three to number 20 in its second week, while it made the same plunge in the UK, except to number seven after just one week at the top spot.

What the hell do people expect? Most of her big fans are going to buy it during the first week. It had a good hit on the chart. It's obvious they don't care too much about promoting the album because their album promo strategies are close to nothing. Album sales are not what they used to be and may never be.

 

I love the album. I loved the last album. I'm just happy as hell her artistry is still intact where as Celine's seems to be dead and buried.

i can't believe some people here think MDNA is one of her worst albums (some even think it's THE worst album she's released).

 

i'm on the exact opposite. i believe MDNA is one of her most personal and accomplished albums. easily her BEST since Ray of Light.

 

well to each his own, okay, but calling it "terrible," "trash," "low quality," etc... that's a bit too much. who cares about the number of CD's she's selling week after week after week. as long as she keeps on making quality albums, i'll be completely hundred percent fine.

most personal?? the lyrics are going nowhere.. her voice is completely autotuned and pitched, there are technosounds everywhere and every song sounds the same. I don't get why some people really think this album is so fantastic. It is definately the worst album she ever created! no doubt. imo Madonna has made some great songs in the past. But this direction sounds outdated and sometimes even boring. There is not one song that really grabs my attention..

I freaking LOVE LOVE SPENT and I'M A SINNNER !!! the whole album is great!! the only one i keep skipping is the "b-day song" and sometimes "superstar" not so great..

 

the most negative thing i can say is that the music is a bit too loud for the volume of her voice. I feel like they buried her voice with the music... sad cause her voice is pretty unique and entertaining to hear.

Zuv, I listened to the Bday Song 5 times on my birthday. That was probably the most I ever will listen to that one! lol

Love Spent is just soooo great, the lyrics are fun and sooo harsh ( i think); she really went off (but in a classy way) on guy ritchie, i love the metaphores with love and money: "wondering where all the love (money) went" . i dont know if thats exactly a metaphore, but you know what i mean. it would have been great a play on word with "rich" and "ritchie", lol. the music is unique and catchy, the benjo is awesome, her voice blends perfectly. And the louder the better: no one would want to enter my car when it plays lolll. So glad i bought the album as soon as it went in pre-orders cause you could get the acoustic version of Love Spent.

I am still thinking what to do.. me and my friend both have second thoughts, although we have seen her in concert before and that was amazing. But with this album, that I even still haven't bought yet, the money spend on the ticket.. will it be worth it?

Madonna fans may still want to see the Material Girl in concert, but they're not in any great rush to get the singer's new album.

Forbes reports that, though Live Nation claims over 600,000 concert tickets have been sold in the US for the star's upcoming tour, her new album MDNA has only sold 420,000 copies.

 

That's despite the fact that every concert ticket sold online came with a a code or coupon for a free copy of the album. That means 180,000 fans who bought tickets for the show can't be bothered to pick up the album – even for free!

 

An insider explains to the business magazine that the reason may be that Madonna fans simply prefer her classics to her new material.

 

"They come to a Madonna show to hear her do the old hits like 'Material Girl' or 'Like a Virgin,'" says the source.

 

The report notes that Madonna isn't the only star to face this particular problem. Last year veteran Irish rockers U2 sold millions of concert tickets despite the lack of success of their latest album No Line on the Horizon.

 

Live Nation says $1.4 million worth of tickets have been sold for the tour in the US, with about $1 million in advance sales globally.

 

"I'll take a $2.4 million advance anyday on any tour," says a Live Nation insider.

They sure use the term "fan" loosely. Madonna forums show that the majority of her big-time fans adore MDNA. It's the "casual fans" that want to hear "Material Girl" for the 9000th time.

Hopefully she'll sing a lot of songs from MDNA. Spiced up with some golden oldies.

Preferably some she hasn't sung that often like Take A Bow, Dress You Up, True Blue...

Don't understand how people can call the album a 'flop'. It's the second best selling album of the year so far.

Yes, the year is still young, but I doubt if many albums can pass it.

Don't forget Madonna has hardly done any promotion just yet.

As she explained in an interview, she wants to put on a great show (which means a lot of rehearsing) and she wants to be there for her children. I respect that.
