i thought it was a great show! i was there that night. though she didn't give 100% herself and talked little to the audience, she was still professtional. every song was sung perfectly.

p.s. it's cold in shanghai now,but it is also wet which is good for celine's throat.

The Olympics in China is being widely disputed ... many countries MAY boycott and NOT PARTICIPATE.

People all over the world are protesting against China's human rights violations in Tibet.

SECURITY for Céline may be a BIG issue!

The Olympics in China is being widely disputed ... many countries MAY boycott and NOT PARTICIPATE.
People all over the world are protesting against China's human rights violations in Tibet.

And against Olympics for politics is just wrong like Celine said. Do you know what does Olympics means in Ancient Greece? Do you know why they bring the Olympics back in 1896? It's for peace, end wars and everything, just enjoy the peace. I can't understand why people want to relate everything to politics.

Also just mark my words, I bet all those countries would just participate the Olympics anyway, US, UK, France...... Anyway, I don't want to discuss about politics here, so please try not to bring something not related to the concert at all to the topic.

The Shanghai Stadium was awash in a sea of blood Friday night as adult contemporary singer Celine Dion's incendiary performance instigated large-scale gang-related violence and bloodshed. Security were unable to curtail the outbreak of violence early in the second act, and ultimately riot police were called in using tear gas and repulsion grenades to contain the rampaging hordes of concert goers.

As soon as controversial adult contemporary star Celine Dion strutted onto the stage a foreboding sense of impending disaster gripped the concert arena; this, apparently, was just the warning signs of the deep-seated social rage brewing within the hearts of the mostly inner-city audience. All throughout, Dion's performance was punctuated with profanity, racial slurs, and the flashing of gang symbols, of which she most wantonly brandished to the audience whilst performing her 1993 hit "My Heart Will Go On" from the Oscar-winning film, "Titanic" -- a song she ended with the phrase, "Yeah, ride or die, mother------s, yeah. You know."

Another provocative moment in Dion's performance occurred during her fifth number, "Because You Loved Me," when the Quebec native re-entered the stage with her entourage and proceeded to uncork bottles of champagne and douse scantily-clad back-up dancers with the liquid whilst laughing into the microphone and shouting, "You know how we do, Shanghai! Detroit! What!"

Ultimately, it was during her performance of her audacious hit "Ce N'etait Qu'un Rêve" ("It Was Only a Dream"), when the violence was triggered. The artist brandished what looked like a nine millimeter Berretta pistol at the front row and appeared to wave it threateningly at a security guard. Reportedly, she had accosted and abused the concert security all night, inciting the audience against them, and at one point screaming, "Celine Dion will swarm / on any mother------ in a blue uniform!"

Roughly ten minutes after the onset of the second act, after waving her weapon at the unnamed security guard, Dion traded words with the guard, and then dived from the stage into the audience after him. As the pop diva came to blows with the guard, engaging in what shocked onlookers described as a "pistol whipping", the Shanghai Stadium erupted into violence. Bottles of TsingTsao rained down on the stage and automatic pistol fire rang out in the audience. Crowd control barricades were unable to contain the rampage, and large-scale chaos and carnage ensued.

One concert goer said, "There was blood and bodies everywhere. And we were all crawling over each other to get to the exits. It was horrific. Also, I wish she would have done her Spanish-language version of "All By Myself," and I was surprised she chose not to."

It remains unclear as to how the controversial adult contemporary star, the most controversial adult contemporary performer to appear in Shanghai since Lincoln Park and Incubus, made it past State culture bureau censors. Many of her hits have been deemed unsuitable for American airwaves including her 1988 single, "I'm Your Lady," a song glorifying prostitution, drive-by shootings, and drug trafficking. Her 1994 single "Because You Loved Me" has been banned by Clear Channel and in Walmart megastores for its casual references to cop killing, drug abuse, and gang-related homicide.

It was also the song in which the pop diva famously declared herself to be "blacker than a million midnights."

At the Shanghai Stadium Friday night, the riots raged on long after Dion had been whisked away by private security. Injured concert goers were rushed to Hengshan Hospital, and all told, the performance left 17 dead and 38 critically wounded.

Chinese authorities are currently seeking Dion's whereabouts for questioning.

I was just about to say that. The Olympics were invented to stop war, fighting. It should have nothing to do with politics , Celine was right. But I can see a lot of people will pick on her for what she said.

I only read the first chapter, about some riots in before the show etc. That's why I could eventually believe it.

But of course the rest is just a fiction, that's for sure.

Absolutely, it was a dream come true to see Celine face to face. Ok, gotta make it simple and plain, on 11 April 2008, I got a chance to see Celine within 10 meters, Celine is definitely an angel. She did have a stunning face. From the angle where I positioned, her face looked like the cover of D’elles, so gorgeous, so fantastic!! Throughout the concert, Celine demonstrated what an international mega star is and truly devoted to the concert.

Since I knew the song list of the show, the songs were less exciting than I thought, but I was totally shocked and infatuated by My Love. Celine started with an acoustic version, the penetrating and pure voice held every one’s breath. One of the summits was All By Myself. This was a song that we missed for some while, after the Millennium Concert, we didn’t see the performance for almost a decade. But that night, we were fortunate enough to witness this song again. The whole audience sang with the song all alone. Taking Chances brings such a energetic Celine, we see less a weeping heartbroken girl but a mature and sexy hottie mama. The entire concert was full of quick-tempo songs. I tried to move #ss but in vain ‘cos I don’t catch the drum beats. ^_^ Celine talked about her impression of modern China. It’s no wondering that Celine always says the positive side of her feelings, but it feels good to hear Celine say it herself with a little bit Chinese.

If there was a minor flaw, it would the missing songs. I Surrender, A World To Believe In were not performed, and Celine didn’t change clothes at all through the show. I’m sure there were people wishing to see Celine sing My Heart Will Go On with a fabulous evening dress. However, we didn’t see it. It all seemed Celine was catching time. Whatever, this concert was 100 percent wonderful. It was a dream of hundreds of thousands Chinese fans. We saw people rushing for the concert, we saw traffic jam for Celine, we saw dedicated fans gathering. That’s all we could wish for. Thanks to Celine!

OK people...cool down now!!!!! PLEASE!!! I love you all because you all love Celine. Feel the love and enjoy the TC ride. Sorry about the disappointments and happy for the triumphs. Thanks for all the reviews, pics, videos, etc. And thanks the most for that absolutely hilarious article re: Celine and her gang attitude and crazy antics. Oh my that just proves how sweet and peaceful our darling really is...there's no way anyone could believe that if they read it right through to the end.
