celinecolombian Posted February 21, 2008 at 12:08 AM Posted February 21, 2008 at 12:08 AM I must be honest, I'm really disapointed. Why is she doing mime that much? Is she tired of singing live during 5 years in a row in Vegas? Is her voice tired?I hoped to see many more songs from the new album, and less old ones [ but never tired of TPOL ]. Anyway, I watched it and enjoyed it Quote
Black Kitten Posted February 21, 2008 at 12:16 AM Posted February 21, 2008 at 12:16 AM on some photos, celine looks tall. but during her cbs special, she looks quite shorter. what's her height? Quote
meanttofly Posted February 21, 2008 at 12:27 AM Posted February 21, 2008 at 12:27 AM Here´s something about the Ratings of the show CELINE DION - DION SPECIAL TOPS ON FRIDAY NIGHTIt's not often that a network musical-variety show winds up at the top of the ratings, but CBS's Celine Dion special, That's Just the Woman in Me did just that Friday night. Nevertheless, the ratings were hardly anything for the network to boast abo ut, as viewers -- particularly young adults -- continued to desert their television sets on Friday nights. The Dion special drew a 5.2 rating and a 9 share in the 9:00 hour, not much better than NBC's game show 1 vs. 100 did an hour hour earlier wh en it registered a 5.1/9. Two back-to-back episodes of NBC's Las Vegas at 9:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. also drew an almost identical 5.0/9 and 5.1/9 respectively. In fact, two reruns of Fox's House turned out to be the real winners of the night among adults 18-49, even though they averaged just a 4.3/8 in overall households. http://www.contactmusic.com/news.nsf/artic...20night_1059834 Quote
mebe Posted February 21, 2008 at 01:43 AM Posted February 21, 2008 at 01:43 AM How I learned to stop worrying and sort of like Céline Dion BILL BROWNSTEIN, The Gazette Been down so long, Dion looks like up to me. Help! Maybe it was the weather or the flu or the meds or the cabin fever. Or just maybe because there was nothing else on the tube and I was trapped in a room where the door had been nailed shut by a prankster in the family. Whatever. This cynic stayed tuned for the entire hour of Céline Dion's prime-time special, That's Just the Woman in Me, last Friday, and, honestly, it wasn't a hardship. And maybe like the winter and the flu and the cabin fever, this, too, shall pass. But maybe not. This admission will cost me dearly. My friend Farge is demanding that my freak flag now fly at half-mast. My friend and colleague, bloggist Basem Boshra, is threatening to withhold my invitation to his annual Larry King Bashing Bash - wherein guests chuck falafels and latkes at a life-sized poster of the bespectacled and suspendered CNN host while doing impressions of the Sopranos' Paulie Walnuts. Okay, maybe Céline's banter with her adoring audience at the Wiltern Theatre in Los Angeles during Friday's TV special was verging on gag-worthy, but she mercifully kept that to a minimum and concentrated on her crooning. No one can deny this woman has among the best pipes of anyone in the business. There is a reason she is the most successful singer to have ever emerged from these parts and among the most successful on the planet. There is a reason she has won five Grammy Awards and has sold millions and millions of discs at a time when few do. There is a reason she played to sold-out houses for five years at her own room in Vegas, before ending her run there in December. There is a reason that her year-long world tour, which kicked off this week in South Africa, is pretty much sold out already. It shouldn't come as much of a surprise, either, that all tickets were quickly gobbled up for Dion's eight shows at the Bell Centre in August and September. (It goes without saying that, short of a reunion of the Beatles both living and deceased, there are no other performing artists who could do same in this town.) There has been some buzz of late that Dion wishes to end her tour next year in Montreal and would thus perform additional shows at the Bell Centre, but nothing has yet been confirmed. The L.A. patrons taking in her TV special went predictably ga-ga as Céline sang such chart-busters like Because You Loved Me and My Heart Will Go On - that once-ubiquitous tune from the Titanic that made some of us go darned near-mental years ago and that may have exacerbated my allergy to the pop diva - as well as Taking Chances from her latest disc, The Prayer. For excellent reason, she hit every note. Though try as I may, I'm no huge fan of Josh Groban, but he is clearly gifted. And when Dion can keep up with this tenor in a duet, there is no doubting her range and power. But what really blew this one-time Céline detractor away was her stunning, seemingly effortless hip-hop collaboration with the Black Eyed Peas' will.i.am on Eyes on Me. This was followed by a simple, sobering rendering of Something, accompanied by the Eagles' Joe Walsh on guitar. Olivia Harrison, widow of that tune's composer, Beatle George Harrison, was in attendance and much moved. Best of all, though, was Dion's solo belting of That's Just the Woman in Me. It wasn't just the pitch-perfect intonation. But there weren't any of those bogus posturings. Her heart was totally in it. Dare I say, she was nearly Janis Joplin-esque in spirit. It was the knock-out punch. The rap against Céline from this and other corners has always been her almost nauseating gushiness, which tends to upstage her sincerity. But as she is about to turn 40 next month, Céline has, hopefully, learned she doesn't need those theatrics, this artifice. The singing more than suffices. And it just could be that it's not for nothing Céline is calling her current world tour Taking Chances. It's about bloody time. Very good article! Thanx Quote

She's 5ft and 7-8 inches tall without shoes Well, the CBS Special was held in huge theatre, so its normal to pale in comparison to the huge stage... or maybe the camera angle wasn't very good Quote
ks1981 Posted February 21, 2008 at 09:55 PM Posted February 21, 2008 at 09:55 PM Im not sure if anyone else has asked this same question ... in the trailer there's a clip of To Love You More.. did this not make the final cut for the aired special? Did she perform the medley during the taping of BYLM/TLYM/IACBTMN (sorry if this has already been asked) Quote
fred Posted February 21, 2008 at 10:13 PM Posted February 21, 2008 at 10:13 PM Haha! Yepp that's funny, to promote it with a song then cut it out. But it was because of the whole "medly" they couldn't vut away the other two tracks and leave TLYM... that medly must be the most inefficient medly ever... 3 songs in like 12 minutes... that's about each song in its own radio edit and not a medly at all. I am glad they cut it out, anyways. /fred Quote Peace and love to all.

dj4celine Posted February 22, 2008 at 10:02 AM Posted February 22, 2008 at 10:02 AM Eyes On Me Ft Will.i.am will be more successful than Taking Chances (Single) only if it is released We all know Sony can fcuk things up... but this time they're not to blame cos Will.i.am is from universal and they need to "talk" things out so that they can figure out how much royalty would go to Universal from this song Quote

tonybower Posted February 23, 2008 at 05:32 PM Posted February 23, 2008 at 05:32 PM I have just watched the CBS Special for the first time and I can't explain to you how it made me feel. It was just incredible. It might have something to do with the way I'm feeling today in general, but I was genuinely moved throughout the show and have not been as excited about watching Celine perform like this in a long time. She had me hooked from the words "It's great to be back in L.A!" Firstly, she looked so incredibly beautiful throughout the show. For River Deep, Mountain High her figure and her legs have never looked so good. I was breathless. The long dress for The Power Of Love and The Prayer was truly stunning, and the white dress with killer boots was a gift from God. She looked so great it hurt... in a good way, of course. I just can't put it into words. I love the choreography for River Deep. It's so good to see the dancers feeling the song and I got the urge to be with them on stage! I just loved it and I hope this becomes a bigger staple Celine song than My Heart Will Go On. Her duets with Josh Groban and Joe Walsh were breathtaking. Her voice was flawless and her humility was very moving. Her stories and her moment with Olivia were really beautiful. She seemed so honoured to be on the stage singing those songs with those people. Her pleasure at singing That's Just The Woman In Me was written all over her face and I'm so glad she got to record it. The song suits her so well and it's clearly something that means a lot to her. I really enjoyed the show and I'm so grateful that there are people on this forum working hard so we get to see these things in such high quality. Thank you. This was a real treat. An amazing show. Celine has never looked or sounded so incredible... I just love her.
