amelie Posted May 31, 2008 at 04:53 PM Posted May 31, 2008 at 04:53 PM Celine sold more than 1.8M copies in 6 weeks, Mariah sold 1.4M in as many weeks. Madonna is close to 1.6M after 4 weeks, Celine sold more than 2M after 7 weeks. Can Madge sell 500k in the next 3 weeks to surpass Celine? That remains to be seen but on her 4th week, Madge sold less than 200k, and like what others have already pointed out, she ain't on the way to matching the numbers of TCH in the US. rightbut, Madonna's album will be backed by a strong second single, Taking Chances wasn't. Hard Candy seems to have a better response with radio airplay (worldwide I mean) and the first single is doing more than well and the show is selling out. There is still something I cannot explain though, why is it that radio stations did not play Celine's second single more? Is it because the TC single did not do well enough? if the company doesn't pay the stations won't play - simple Quote

It's up on the charts in Belgium & French she she last toured. So I'm hoping this will happen in North America when she is here. I didn't expect every show to sell out, I think we were spoiled from most of the Vegas shows selling out but that's only 4400 seats compared to over 15,000 at most venues now. I think the tour is doing well, but the high ticket price is keeping some people from going but that's gonna happen with all big artists. Last time madonna toured her floor seat tix in the US were going for $300 to 350 and that wasn't the scalper price, it was the actual ticket price. I got dragged to one of the shows in NY and there were open seats in all sections, even on the floor. The best part of her show was everything Jamie King did. So with Celine you have Jamie King plus Celine's incredible voice, so it's totally worth every cent whether you sit on the floor seats or higher up. Quote ~J O E Y~

Bellamy Posted June 1, 2008 at 05:25 PM Posted June 1, 2008 at 05:25 PM The Confessions Tour was an indoor tour, right? Any big stadium? And it was the top grossing tour of that year I think. I think Taking Chances would be the top grossing tour this year. Whoever call it a flop need some mental check. Also empty seats in photo doesn't mean the show is not sold out. Even the final show of A New Day which was sold out in minutes has lines of empty seats. You never know why those audience can't make it to the show, or it's scalpers can't sell their tickets. Sorry buddy, but you are the wrong one here. I live in the NYC area where she did several shows at Madison Sq Garden (holds around 18,000-20,000) and the week of the shows they still had tix available for SEVERAL of the shows. The show I went to had open seats, they were easily visable and people were buying tickets THAT night. They even announced on the radio that seats were available. l I got my tix for my BF and I only the week b4 and we coulda had first section up from the floor but I didn't think she was worth that much so we sat in the front of the third section. The show was OK, I was a fan in the 80's so I liked her older songs but Im glad I didn't pay for the tix. I'm sure some of the NY shows were sold out and the others were very full but NOT totally sold out. I bet that was also the case in some other cities on her tour. Of course her site and Live Nation will say the whole tour sold out except for maybe one but you should be used to the inaccuracy of publicists. Quote ~J O E Y~

Going by the report, I DO think that the names of Alicia, Avril, Celine and Leona were arranged SALES-WISE. critias Posted June 2, 2008 at 11:36 PM Posted June 2, 2008 at 11:36 PM Sony BMG's bestselling albums since 2007 according to its latest official report: 1. AS I AM - Alicia Keys 2. THE BEST DAMN THING - Avril Lavigne 3. TAKING CHANCES - Celine Dion 4. SPIRIT - Leona Lewis According to www.worldwidealbums.net Leona Lewis Spirit 3607000 3877525 should we suppose that Taking Chances has sold more than that, or is Sony telling us so at least? worldwidealbums.net sales numbers are totally inaccurate. I'm sure TC sold more than 3M and I'm pretty sure Spirit sold less than 3.5M. I'd go out on a limb and say that TCH has already sold 4M copies worldwide. I e-mailed Sony BMG yesterday to know the official sales. We'll see IF they'll ever care to reply. Going by the report, I DO think that the names of Alicia, Avril, Celine and Leona were arranged SALES-WISE. The 4 names could not have been mentioned RANDOMLY since it's an official, data-focused, and painstakingly prepared report! The previous one named Alicia, Celine and Carrie Underwood as the topsellers...in that order! it could be alphabetical though Alicia, Avril, Celine, Leona It might be shipments and not actual sales as music records companies use usually shipments numbers to say how many copies they have "sold". And it would make sense as Sony was expecting to sell something around 6M copies worldwide of Taking Chances. Therefore they might have shipped a lot of albums for the first display - reason why for instance the album was quickly awarded some certifications as in the Australia whereas clearly it cannot have sold that many copies accordingly to picks and length in charts. Hence Leona's might have been sold to retailers more copies whereas at the same time shipments of Celine's are higher. Quote
nick1975 Posted June 3, 2008 at 06:10 AM Posted June 3, 2008 at 06:10 AM (edited) eh eh wrong, The Confessions Tour was sold out everywhere except for one city where it sold at 99%.Sorry buddy, but you are the wrong one here. There more shows that Madonna performed and we can't know it's sold out. these figures are by cities not by each shows, but we can see that the entire tour was sold out by the way, shows sell out very fast because die-hard fans, regular fans, sorta fans and most of all scalpers buy tickets.for the TC tour, less scalpers bought tickets because it is a fact that they would have a hard time re-selling them due to Celine's general decreasing popularity. This is why you won't find figures with the (sellout) indicator for the TC tour. But, Mariah's case is worse because in 2006, they had to cancel shows in United States (where she has her best success) due to poor tickets sales. Edited June 3, 2008 at 06:11 AM by nick1975 Quote
Prince Whiskers Posted June 3, 2008 at 10:29 AM Posted June 3, 2008 at 10:29 AM STILL, nick, Celine's doing far more shows than Madonna did. Looking at that list of M's sold-out dates, I'm delighted to know that the TCH tour has actually sold more tickets in Paris and Japan! And remember, the total of around 120 shows is not inclusive of the still-to-be-confirmed Vegas concerts w/c will end Celine's tour. zoea2812 Posted June 4, 2008 at 02:15 PM Posted June 4, 2008 at 02:15 PM I think it is a shame for the Taking Chances album as it is not being promoted in anyway. I have been in quite a few music stores and they havent even got anything up to promote it and it isnt on the shelves . Sony need to make the radio stations play her songs and then more people will be more familiar with Celine's new style. It is a BRILLIANT album and should be achieving a top ten status everywhere. But one thing that still interests me is what Rene said before that when Celine came back, the Sony contract she got was the biggest ever in recording history. Hmmmm....maybe the money that's supposed to be for promo is absorbed by her contract? Quote http://cdn.webecoist.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/modern-pet-solo-blown-glass.jpg
