stevethefan Posted December 9, 2007 at 01:35 AM Posted December 9, 2007 at 01:35 AM What famous English singer/musician was first in a 70's group that had a lot of pop success in the 80's, and also had a very successful solo career during the eighties and nineties and as an interesting other piece of trivia about him was actually, as a young lad, an extra that can be quickly seen in the Beatles movie "Help" ? He has also done a few acting roles and the main group he had been famous for in the seventies/eighties still occasionally tours, and they did that recently. He is both the lead singer and plays an instrument in that group. Quote

stevethefan Posted December 9, 2007 at 02:02 AM Posted December 9, 2007 at 02:02 AM OMG that was quick and of course correct! What famous sixties group had a fairly short career, only a few years, had beautiful harmonies, and one of them later had some successful solo hit songs. Only one of the groups members is still alive, one recently passed away. One member used to be on a hit TV show, one member had a daughter that was on a hit 70's comedy show. Quote
celinedionsfan Posted December 9, 2007 at 02:10 AM Author Posted December 9, 2007 at 02:10 AM (edited) The Mamas and The Papas But I didn't know that Denny Doherty passed away. Or was it Michelle Phillips? Michelle Phillips, wife of John Phillips was on Knots Landing. She played Nicolette Sheridan's character's mother.Mackenzie Phillips, daughter of John and step-daughter of Michelle, played the oldest daughter, Julie, on One Day At A Time.John Phillips and Mackenzie both spent time in rehab.John and Michelle's daughter was in the band Wilson Phillips with Brian Wilson's daughters.Mama Cass had success as a solo singer but died much too young. stevethefan Posted December 9, 2007 at 02:20 AM Posted December 9, 2007 at 02:20 AM Correct! I knew that one might be to easy for you so I had to leave out "two men and tow women." The member that recently died was Denny Doherty. I think he died earlier this year from some illness. What big seventies group first started in the late sixties with some different members, then later changed members and most notably added a duo (male and female) that changed the sound of the group immensely and is the current group. One main singer in the group has had a very successful bunch of solo albums in the 80's/90's. The group had one biggest albums of the late seventies. They sometimes tour now. Quote

stevethefan Posted December 9, 2007 at 03:05 AM Posted December 9, 2007 at 03:05 AM (edited) This seventies singer had a big hit with a song that Céline also has covered. My guess is that all of you musical braniacs will KNOW the singer and the song but the challenge is this singer also had a hit (or very popular) song in the seventies with another group he was in. It was sort of a one hit wonder group althogh I think I read where they recently did a concert. Who is the singer, what's the Céline song and what group was he in? He was also in a seventies group called "The Raspberries" with a popular song called, I think, "Go All the Way." It's one of those songs you may not remember the group or name of the song but you'd know it if you heard it. Quote

celinedionsfan Posted December 9, 2007 at 03:49 AM Author Posted December 9, 2007 at 03:49 AM (edited) And speaking of covering songs... this particular song and original singer were recently the subject of a topic on the "other side" with the singer complaining that Celine's version did better because of racism. So knowing the name of the singer and the song should be easy - the question then is what was the name of the group this singer was in and what was the group's big hit?
