celinedionsfan Posted December 11, 2007 at 05:17 AM Author Posted December 11, 2007 at 05:17 AM Actually Steve said the lead singer, which would have been Peter Cetera, was on the Karate Kid soundtrack - and I'm thinking he's referring to "The Glory of Love" which Cetera sang and I know was from some one of the movies made in the 80s. I never knew he did a song with either Frida or Agnetha from ABBA - but if he did -- then there are still two others! That's a great question. I'm pretty sure he sang one with Amy Grant and I thought maybe with Ann Wilson of Heart, but the Ann Wilson duet may have been with some other guy. For awhile that guy had some hits in the eighties but he seems to have dissappeared from the face of the earth since then. Edited December 11, 2007 at 09:20 PM by stevethefan Quote

Amy Grant is correct and the song with Peter Cetera helped her "crossover" from another genre where she had already had much success. What type of music did she sing? celinedionsfan Posted December 13, 2007 at 05:46 AM Author Posted December 13, 2007 at 05:46 AM Yes Amy grant is still known for her Christian music which is why her divorce and then marriage to Vince Gill generated criticism and talk. As for Jennifer Warnes, I can see where you might have gotten the idea from the clue because she did a duet and the song is "Up Where We Belong" but her partner was another male singer. Remember who? So another clue about Cetera's singing partner, she probably spent more time on the Neilsen charts than the Billboard charts! Quote http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h24/celinedionsfan/candmsig8.jpg

I remember a two-part episode of Medical Center which was controversial for its time. The story was about a male doctor who decided to undergo a sex change operation. The first part dealt with the doctor's choice and the reaction of his colleagues and at the end of the second part, they showed the doctor after the surgery dressed in woman's clothing, wearing a wig. stevethefan Posted December 14, 2007 at 02:53 AM Posted December 14, 2007 at 02:53 AM This English singer/writer musician sang in several bands starting in the late sixties when he was just a teenager. For a very short time, and only one album he was in a band with a very famous guitarist/singer. That person once said that when he first saw him sing he couldn't believe this "white, spotty English kid" had a voice like Ray Charles. In the mid eighties he came out with a few solo albums and had several big hits. Since then he has not had that type of success although he still tours and puts out albums. Last summer, at big summer US music benefit blues festival, he reunited with that famous singer/guitarist for the first time in over thirty years on stage. It went so well that in 2008 they are together playing several dates at NY's Madison Square Garden. This one may be a little bit hard to figure out. Quote
celinedionsfan Posted December 14, 2007 at 02:57 AM Author Posted December 14, 2007 at 02:57 AM (edited) The only ones I can think of are Rod Stewart - I know he was in the band Faces - but I don't think he was ever considered a "blue-eyed soul" singer - so the other would be Paul Young - but I know nothing about his life or career before his few songs in the 80s but he was somewhat of a "blue-eyed soul" singer. celinedionsfan Posted December 14, 2007 at 03:20 AM Author Posted December 14, 2007 at 03:20 AM I really didn't think it was Rod or Paul Young... I'm at a loss because I don't much about the backgrounds of many of the singers. I could continue guessing, but all I'd really be doing is listing all the male English singers that I remember from the 80s.. such as Mick Hucknell from Simply Red or Howard Jones. stevethefan Posted December 14, 2007 at 03:25 AM Posted December 14, 2007 at 03:25 AM (edited) He was never really famous for being in a band with a big household name although the one he was in with that guitarist years ago was a famous, short lived band. One of the bands he was in a long time ago was called "Traffic." I'm VERY familiar with his first name! Edited December 14, 2007 at 03:28 AM by stevethefan Quote

stevethefan Posted December 14, 2007 at 03:34 AM Posted December 14, 2007 at 03:34 AM (edited) Correct! He was in "Traffic" but probably is most famous for being in a band called "Blind Faith" with Eric Clapton, although that was only one album. This summer Eric had a big benefit blues concert in Chicago for his "Crossroads" drug rehab place and Steve Winwood and him played some songs. I was probably thinking of him since I recently bought the DVD of that concert. This female singer had most of her hits in the sixties. Like Steve Winwood, when people heard her and did not see her picture they thought she was black, but she was white with an very soulful voice. She had a hit (I think) in the eighties with The Pet Shop Boys. Real name, Mary O'Brian. She is no longer with us. Edited December 14, 2007 at 03:44 AM by stevethefan Quote

Now that's an easy question and any of the clues would have been enough for me to know you are talking about Dusty Springfield! As a matter of fact, I thought of her when I read your Winwood clue. She did sing with the Pet Shop Boys. The hit song was "What Have I Done" but I think they may also have done another song as well.
