Céline's Blues Posted April 5, 2007 at 06:08 PM Posted April 5, 2007 at 06:08 PM Hasn't Celine said that she never pick songs because they will probably make a hit or just because that type of song is hot right now?She picks her songs from what she likes and songs that she can stand for, and not beacuse she thinks it will make a hit...Ûnfortunately she did NOT do that with ANDHC or OH but that was discussed million times befre already.... haha I would love to see a little more depth to her English career which seems so pale when compared to her solid French standard. I just hope that we will get a solid English album where she 100% knows what she's doing and stands 100% behind Timbalandy and all the new hot ish. Quote http://i.imgur.com/dmreJ.jpg
Incognito_0112 Posted April 5, 2007 at 06:36 PM Posted April 5, 2007 at 06:36 PM It would be really interesting to know what would have happened if Celine french albums were in english. Not like direct adaptions from french to english (like PQTME -> ITWIT ....) but with the same quality to both the lyrics and the songs. I personally think her french has more of a timeless felling more than her latest english releases. I also think that it's not Celines vocal effort albums or her emotions put into her songs in her english that are discussionable. It's more her songs and choice of material in english that I think is a bit more poor when you compare it to her french music. Ronny83 Posted April 5, 2007 at 08:23 PM Posted April 5, 2007 at 08:23 PM From Forbes.com: Digital MediaGrim Outlook for Music BizLouis Hau, 04.05.07, 2:45 PM ET If there's a light at the end of the tunnel for the struggling music industry, Merrill Lynch doesn't see it. In a research report Thursday reinstating coverage of Warner Music Group (nyse: WMG - news - people ) at a "neutral" rating, Merrill Lynch analyst Jessica Reif Cohen said she expects 2007 retail music sales to tumble about 3% globally and in the U.S., a sharp retreat from Merrill's previous forecast of 2% growth globally and in the U.S. "Net-net, we are becoming increasingly concerned that a return to growth for the global music market is not likely in 2007, and that 2008 may also prove to be a down year,'' she said. Cohen said the music industry can expect to get a momentary lift from recent and forthcoming releases by major recording artists such as neo-soul singer Joss Stone (EMI Group), country music stars Tim McGraw (Warner) and Toby Keith (Vivendi's Universal Music Group) and vocal divas Celine Dion and Jennifer Lopez (both on Sony BMG Music Entertainment). But the industry's fundamentals remain bleak. Piracy is still a major challenge, with NPD Group data showing that 16% of music acquired in the U.S. comes from unauthorized peer-to-peer file-sharing networks, a figure that would probably be much higher if it included CD piracy, the recording of digital radio streams and other means of music piracy, Cohen said. Sales have also been pressured by the sharp decline in the number of bricks-and-mortar music stores. During the past decade, their numbers have plummeted from more than 4,000 locations to fewer than 2,000. Meanwhile, big-box retailers, which have limited shelf space for music, now account for 65% of physical music sales, compared with just 20% a decade ago. The net result has been fewer physical purchases of older catalog CDs and fewer opportunities for consumers to discover new music, Cohen said. Cohen also questioned the wisdom of Warner and EMI's recent efforts to cut spending on the development of new talent and instead focusing resources on those recording artists with the most commercial potential. "We applaud the drive for efficiency but remain unconvinced of anybody's ability to 'pick only the hits,' " she said. Quote The Celine Dion Italian fanbase - CelineDionItalia.com
