She had to make a tunnel just to sing anything. She wasn't using a nasal tone for emphasis, or to support / sharpen a mid register belt (as she is doing here), she needed to employ that nasal tone just to get sounds out. Celine has always sounded nasal. Go back all the way to 1998, SSDA is full of nasal vocals. When the song comes out tomorrow, try not to focus on one part and take in the entire vocal. She probably feels relaxed in some aspects of her voice and a bit closed off in others. That's normal for her. I will say that this sounds like standard post-2003 Celine to me. 2019 was a big departure from that in a lot of ways. It’s very standard post 2003 like you say… vocals similar to D’elles and “You and I” in way. That’s a win in 2026 she sounds AMAZING! Edited July 2, 2026 at 05:48 AM by Nmj 4 Quote

Here this is exactly her explaining the tunnel voice. The Je t’aime is so closed, nasal. Ugh 😣 Say whatever you wanna say, she has always sounded nasal and that’s nothing new. It’s her tone and it doesn’t bother me. That’s what makes her voice unique. The song isn’t even out yet. The “Je t’aime” part sounds great to me. It’s a placement/style choice, and it sounds really good, just like Symon said earlier go back and watch the recording sessions for Love Again. And see what progress she has made, just for us to hear her sing again. Truly a blessing 🙌 3 Quote

And the tunnel/nasal voice she was explaining in the interview for the doc is exactly what she s doing here. The Je t aime is quite horrendous in the forced nasal dated way. But of course she can still sing. I do not think the placement in 'Je t'aime' is nasal. Nasal sounds are thin, this one is heavy. I'd probably attribute it to a lowered larynx. She did so in 'That's The Way It Is' too. Edited July 2, 2026 at 06:01 AM by LukeD 2 Quote
queenofvegas Posted July 2, 2026 at 06:04 AM Posted July 2, 2026 at 06:04 AM She sounds hardly any different than she did on Courage 1 Quote
LukeD Posted July 2, 2026 at 06:08 AM Posted July 2, 2026 at 06:08 AM I keep reading things I politely disagree with. I do not see how BPM sounds similar to ANDHC, JNVOP, ESNRQ, nor how her voice is nasal or similar to 2019. I think the song sounds authentic, it does not remind me of anything in her catalogue. And her voice sounds stronger, definitely stronger than in 'Courage' and CWT. 2 Quote

It creates that dark kermit sound she's known for. There's a name for it that I can't remember. It does lower the larynx a bit but it's more a tongue tension issue than a larynx issue. 1 Quote

Redhouche Posted July 2, 2026 at 06:28 AM Posted July 2, 2026 at 06:28 AM Just sharing an opinion about the vocal mix and production. I noticed it on Dansons and I’m not talking about the pitch correction, because every singer in the industry uses that. I’m talking more about the compression or the vocal processing it sounds a bit smushed to me. Maybe it’s because of the vocal layers they added behind the lead vocal, but Love Again didn’t sound like that at all. But let’s wait for the song to finally come out. Quote
emiliejolie Posted July 2, 2026 at 06:30 AM Posted July 2, 2026 at 06:30 AM It’s true that many people tell about technics i personnally don’t know anything about technics and don’t want because I just want to keep the émotion. And it has made me feel emotional since the first snipet this morning. But I still don’t understand why she twists the words like this, again like she would have a hot potato in her mouth, inhibition a normal prononciation. i will not wait midnight i prefer to wake up tomorrow morning, opening my day with Céline new song Quote

celine2199 Posted July 2, 2026 at 06:43 AM Posted July 2, 2026 at 06:43 AM It's an artistic choice... Didn't she sound like that in some of the lines of Think Twice? She sounded like that because she WANTED it like that... 2 Quote

No no I totally understand and this is exactly how I understood it as she really explained it well. Her playing with nasality is not the tunnel she has to use related to her disease and rigidity around her vocal chord. The sound may appear nasal but it s different. Quote

Yeah it's just the way she sings! She's always sounded like that. Her vowels have always been wonky. When shes's sung on the record with a more open tone it was usually because the producer coached her to do that for commercial (not creative) reasons. No one coaches her in the studio anymore -- she interprets the song exactly as she wants to. What we're complaining about here is that her vocals don't match the idea of the "product" we want to consume, but maybe shift your thinking and realize that the emotion and the nuances in her voice and the peculiarities of her singing style ... those things are actually what make the product valuable. It’s called “knödeln” 😋 And yes, she does it way more in this song than in Dansons. In all honesty I prefer the Dansons style of singing more than the Courage way. Sorry, not sorry. I was happy to hear her get rid of that kind of way of singing and that wannabe sound like Sia. But hey, let’s hope she will have a great hit in the French speaking countries and let the tree do her work 😁 2 1 Quote

Yeah and most importantly her voice has a PRETTY tone. that to me was the hardest loss to grapple with in the later years of her career. especially on Courage, some of the vocals I found incredibly interesting and impressive, but not pretty in the slightest. so this is a massive improvement 1 Quote

jpatdeleon09 Posted July 2, 2026 at 08:02 AM Posted July 2, 2026 at 08:02 AM (edited) The tunnel you guys were talking about reminds me of the song “Ordinaire’ in ‘Encore Un Soir’ album. And also, “The Show Must Go On” single. I think that’s the perfect example of tunnel voice.. for me lol Comparing this snippet to most songs in ‘Encore Un Soir’ album. This is much better. Her voice is much better here. “Ma Faille’ hurts my ears so bad. As much as I want that song to be played in loud volume.. I can’t. So irritating her voice there. Badly edited. And they made her voice sounds so direct and loud. Plus, ‘Ordinaire’, what kind of effect they did to her voice. It’s like an AI wanted to sound like a real human like almost there like it needs more data/info to be fully transformed into real human voice. Edited July 2, 2026 at 08:07 AM by jpatdeleon09 1 Quote
