Concert residency in Paris 2026/2027! *Spoilers*

If I really think about it, and myself and a few others did say this, it’s been 6 years since she last performed- her voice was bound to change and shift in that time even if she worked really hard at it. Compare 1990 to 1996- in ‘90 her voice was super girly, piercing, and at times metallic and her voice sat pretty damn high, then compare that to ‘96 where her voice had lowered slightly, it was thicker, there was more rasp but overall a more “big” instrument… then take it further and compare 1996 to 2002, by ‘02 she’d settled into the voice of a fully grown woman, it was richer, sat lower, was warmer and there was, albeit slightly, less “oomph” in her belts. 

All this to say 6 years is a very long time for anyone’s voice, let alone one which was being eaten away at by a disease which wouldn’t even allow her to keep up on her vocal exercises or keeping her voice limber, and lack of use leads to its own problems. I think once she really sets in to the shows next week there will be an improvement in her voice, she’ll be far more confident and comfortable with the show and the surroundings- and I personally feel how rich and strong her lower register sounds now is absolutely beautiful. 
 

I do have some feelings about IACBTMN but really the last thing I want to do at this time with how joyful I feel about this whole situation is post anything negative.

I don't know if this guy's member of this forum, but his words couldn't express more perfectly what yesterday's performance was all about!

Céline rules and gave so much more than "just" songs!!! What a woman! And one can only vaguely imagine, what was necessary to master this s***-illness! And one can only take her as a role model that you can fulfill your own dreams, regardless how hard and long the way might be! Yeah, she's the queen. And will always be!

Celine looked and sounded amazing - she tried so hard throughout and as others have said, she will come into her own in the next concerts.  

Loved most of the song choices, I wish ANDHC was in the set list. I think it would suit her current voice.   Loved the dance section and reworked songs - they feel alive again after so many years.  

I loved the glow in her eyes when on stage - she looked so pretty and elegant the whole show.  

So proud of her!! The world is literally praising Celine right now.

Yeah, in the higher quality videos I have seen her voices sounds remarkably better than the initial live stream video I watched. 

She's singing very carefully and with consistently good technique. I think she was probably very worried about doing too much on the opening night and possibly straining her voice. She also seems looser and freer vocally, she isn't singing from muscle memory but is reinterpreting each song anew from her heart. So this all results in a different sound, which I might add, is quite pleasant to listen to. It's a natural, pretty, and balanced tone. 

As this first run goes on, she will hit her stride and will probably show us more of the vocal power we expect from her. But she needs to keep doing what she's doing now, it's working (!)

The whole vibe reminds me a bit of the Dune movies by Denis Villeneuve.

I hope ‘the classical world’, so real classical soprano’s for example, will not treat her like a laughing stock; a new Florence Foster Jenkins. It sounded awful to be honest, but it was very daring nonetheless and puts light on a beautiful and famous piece of opera history.

This. Exactly the same. Her new voice is so damaged. 

There’s really not much left of the singer she used to be. For me, it feels like grieving a loss. That takes absolutely nothing away from her courage. She must have been through absolute hell to get to where she is today. But she’s really not the singer she once was anymore — not even compared with her worst moments before Covid. We’re a very long way from that now.

If anyone hates how she sounds, think she’s “finished”, and has nothing but negative critiques and talks about “grieving” her and/or her voice, then I really don’t think there’s much point in visiting this thread or contributing to it again. You’re entitled to your opinion, but it gets to a point where it’s just nasty, and im sure most don’t really want to hear it.

You’re just being rude. Please, get off the forum if you’re not a fan of her (anymore). Céline isn’t a classical trained singer so she doesn’t use her voice the same way Callas (an exceptional talent) did. 

She took a risk, made it a surprise and it paid off. Not only to me, but the whole audience was in a positive shock and cheered loud for her afterwards. 
 

Go bash elsewhere.. If your critique would be fair, you also can hear that there were good things that night. And if you’re so talently trained as you would like to come across, you’d hear that it’s a C#5…

I was there yesterday and she was amazing. Her voice is still so beautiful 

 Of course she is 58 and with serious health problems. Can't expect the same vocals of 10 or 20 years ago. However her voice is still amazing and if you know any other female singer at 58 better than this, please let me know.

Wow it feels like I watched a completely different show and singer yesterday through the live stream... I'm a bit shocked reading so much negativity while we all should be very very happy and proud about Celine and the evening yesterday

How did she sound terrible? I expected playback beforehand at some songs but right now everything could have been live yesterday, we'll find out at the next show for sure. It all sounded really human and live...

After all she's been through, it's a pure miracle that she stood on stage and sang her heart out for us yesterday! We can't say how strong her voice actually is since it was clearly the nerves and the emotions which overwhelmed her too throughout the show. Yes she was shaky at some points but she will improve with the next shows. Opening nights are never a good moment to really judge her voice. Then a few shows in we'll know what she's really capable of.

I don't know how you can be so sure about that her physical ability to produce the necessary air flows is gone. For me it's very clear that it's still there but together with all the emotions and literally crying yesterday and also her aging it's natural that she goes down in power with time. Again we will see with the following shows what her voice really is like now. Now she's singing with a healthy technic and is not pushing her voice of the edge as before, that's also something what changes the voice coming out.

For the Maria Callas song: She is not a classical singer and it was clearly a heartfelt tribute, let's see it as this. And for me, she truly sounded amazing, again after all, she was really pulling it out and it was heavenly and totally unexpected 

 

To bring this to and end: We can't expect her to magically turn back time and sound like 30, 20 or even 10 years ago. But with what we heard yesterday I'm really looking forward seeing her going on. And we can decide if we walk with her or not. I will for sure

I can't believe some people are so negative in here! The woman almost died. She could've gone on stage, lipped to the same old 2011 tracks and Vegas mic feed, thanked the crowd and left but she didn't, she gave an honest display of her true voice, and the small parts that were tracks were clearly not overly retouched, and were certainly not old. We're entitled to our own opinions, but if you're going to be nasty about a woman who fought for her life, do that on Twitter or some other cesspool.

Based on some videos it's obvious that she has complicated breathing issues, guess she is under treatments between one show to another. Let's focus on Celine and not on some useless comments by bored people, who cares.

The thing is, for any fan or critic going into or watching the show and expecting Céline to sound like she did anywhere between 10 and 30 years ago, I get their disappointment. I do. Because she doesn’t sound like that anymore.

However, those people have severely unrealistic expectations.

She’s 58. She’s got SPS. She’s not performed anywhere on this scale for over 6 years. For everyone else who can appreciate those facts we can appreciate that she still sounds good, is trying her heart out and has been to hell and back just to step foot onto a stage again.

That is more than enough for me.
