How Do You Keep The Music Playing? - Celine Opening Night March 15th, March 16th

Posted (edited)

Well Thursday is better than Friday. Still time to be a story If the release it early enough.

Still think it would’ve made more sense early this week or early next week.

We need to make a bingo card for this interview.

I'll start. Céline is going to call her "girlfriend" at least once.

The best is yet to come

I don't think so, both got more press than Celine's last album did. (And continue to, just saw a major write-up about Aline a couple days ago. And Titanique is spreading across the globe.)

Yeah, and she brought that on herself, sadly. Or rather Rene did. And I think treating interviews that way was smart early on in her career, but makes increasingly less sense as she matured as an artist and an individual, plus marketing/ PR has changed so much since then. But Celine never really graduated into the social media age.

Definitely a bit of both.

I think the press gets a briefing on what to ask and what not.

Celine sings her way through it so a lot gets lost.

I came across a never published column from 1996 for Time.

https://calexan.substack.com/p/my-dream-dinner-with-celine-dion

Funny enough it has the same answers as she gives now.

'I don't want a hit, I want a career'

Also absolutely satisfying the interviewer noticed it were well rehearsed quotes.

Though at the end Celine tells him

“It's been wonderful to talk to you," she says. "We had a nice meal, a nice chat. Very nice and interesting for me." In what way, I can’t resist asking? “You asked unusual questions—not what I was expecting.

So my guess is she also wants to talk about different topics but she simply just can't.

Also depends on the interviewer, The Sunday Times interview about her Loreal deal, completely new subject and questions. Completely new Celine answers. She even talked about before falling asleep she gets creative and think of lyrics for music.

In all her music related interviews we haven't heard about that.

This. Both of those are examples of a cultural phenomenon surrounding Céline, of which she and her camp took no part —neither initiating nor endorsing them— yet both have had a huge impact on her cultural relevance (not to mention streaming performance) in a way her team could only dream of…

Touching on "Aline and "Titanique" in the interview, however, would have been some form of promotion for these works - and I wouldn't be surprised if it was Céline herself who didn't feel like it.

Agree that both the film and the show are great attempts to play with Céline's iconic status. But don't you think that in both cases it's Céline's kind of complex that keeps her at a distance from these attempts? It's more or less the reason why she didn't respond to an invitation to speak with Carl Wilson on the occasion of the second edition of his book. He hoped that she and he would laugh together, but his attempts to make contact were ignored - and I was surprised that he was surprised. I think I understand her silence, though of course I regret it. Céline has both a lot of humor and a lot of courage, but - how shall I say it? - not all kinds of them. I guess she doesn't like not having control over the metamorphoses of her image (Dion's family does too, judging from their angry reaction to "Aline").

Well, it remains now to keep our fingers crossed for a good trailer for an equally good (or better) documentary.

Her answers over the last 15 years of interviews are used just as much as many of her playback tracks that she’s used for the same period of time.

We are no longer interested in the story behind MHWGO, the kiss in Dublin, 13 brothers and sisters, singing on the kitchen table, all family members are musicians, ya da ya da ya da.

Not being disrespectful at all but it’s gone way beyond repetitive and boring at this point.

She had some new answers for vogue like the dress and headpiece story … so hopefully all time away keeps her stories fresh and the questions she’s asked even more fresh.

Really happy about the trailer tomorrow…

In terms of her interviews…. At least she is consistent and always has been!

I genuinely think it's because she feels intimidated/ ill-equipped to answer some of these non-cookie-cutter questions in an eloquent manner and without inadvertently saying something that may get misinterpreted (in English, at least). It plays into some of her complexes and insecurities.

I can only think how many times she has been asked the same questions though, over and over again. It’s time for new questions, something that will make her think and catch her off -guard.

It does also come down to the fact that we know every minute detail of her life, so of course we are bored by her answers and repetitiveness in interviews. We have all heard the stories time and time again.

It should also be said that this documentary is not going to be the introduction to a new Celine- Irene started the process years ago, to paint a picture of Celine for the public, but a picture we’re already very familiar with- so there’ll be plenty of stuff we’ve already seen and heard. It’s for the masses, not the Forum of us loonies

The full photo from that poster looks really bizarre, no? https://press.amazon...-am-celine-dion

It's not the same photo as the one with only half her face. It might be a little underwhelming, but she looks fine.

I suspect the Hoda interview might air tomorrow as well.

This one looks a lot like the RW photoshoot from 2021. The hair, the jewellery, the painted nails. The picture we had before I was sure was from a separate shoot but now I think it may really be the same.

So they only film these things one/two day(s) in advance (assuming whoever spotted them posted it right away)?

I mean it's a mostly live show with very few (and very short) pre-taped segments. It's not like there's much to edit.

Agreed, however, I think it's something deeper than her insecurities in English. "Aline" was a theme primarily for French media.

The frontal black and white shot reminds me of my favorite ending to the "Imperfections" video. Unfortunately, to a disadvantage. The power of her gaze in that frame was mesmerizing and attractive; this time I feel repulsion. Of course, this is a subjective impression; maybe it will play well together with the doc.

Hmm no? James played the piano, and I loved the song immediately -> 2 years later: I hated that song!

Lol I thought of this when I was writing this. However, overall she has been consistent and what I like about her interviews over the years, they have largely been about looking at life in a positive way - even in the worst times! It’s quite encouraging for others who are also struggling.

I’d assume they would make a bigger deal. I really don’t want to feed the snake but this seems to me that it’ll be a bigger sit down in more of a prime time slot. And I would think they’d wait til

It gets closer to air the interview… probably a few days prior to the release in mid June.
